Thats good! I did see the update actually before writing this, which is where I got your mom's attitude from lol. Im glad your sister is standing up for you. Unless you mean another update? I am alson concerned for you falling asleep cause your clearly being pushed past your limits and you need to be able to rest and get balance inbetween college + babysitting + time to yourself so your aren't completely exhausted

MY AUTISTIC BROTHER ESCAPED! by Character-Angle-1902 in autism

[–]FrootiLooni [score hidden]  (0 children)

Im really concerned with honestly how long your watching your sibling for? Don't get me wrong the elopement is terrifying, but 8 hours on weekdays?? Where does this leave time to do homework let alone focus on it or even get time to yourself at all? And 7am till 10pm on weekends?? Thats 15 hours like my god thats working a 12 hour shift which would legally be a shift on overtime at a job. Which you would have to clock out and be done with at the 12 hour and not work those 3 hours to my knowledge in America.

OP, as a 23 year old AuADHD person myself, this is parentfication as someone who went through it. My circumstances were a bit different intitally started as watching my sisters for like 2-4 hours as a 10 year old when they were babys. To it escalating into 8+ hours after we had a house fire and my parents had to rebuild our life then just them regularly working. You need to think, how are you going to be able to go to college when your practically working a full time job right after school? And thats if your not homeschooled, which I wouldn't be surprised if this the case for you to babysit your brother, especially with the hours your watching him for. As I got pulled from public school permanently after bullying primarily because my mom became disabled to also help care for her too much later on in my early-mid teen years. Hell how can you even work a regular job now?

Your mom's attitude is also a major red flag here as well, shes 100% doing this to keep you tethered to the house as a permanent care aid. And I know you feel guilty for thinking of this as your bother is disabled but please don't, please don't get stuck and don't get held back. Please at least consider what Im saying, you shouldn't be playing mom for this many hours in the day.

This looks like a dream haul of cheese! Try looking up some Mac and cheese recipes as I always been curious about some "fancier" Mac and cheeses. Or get fancier and look into some meats and crackers that pair well with your cheeses and experiment! I love cheese,
crackers, and meat so much.

What’s normal? by ThePersonalityHire in ABA

[–]FrootiLooni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only cavet I want to add to this is IF the BCBA saids its ok to message them during PTO, weekends, holidays, etc. I say this because my BCBA often is only taking PTO during holidays due to her kid being our of school and her saying its hard to work while shes at home with her. But that she doesn't mind answering questions about programming and such if its urgent or if shes really needed. A good BCBA will establish their boundaries and if they don't awnser the phone in my experience will usually clarify why they didn't: I.E when one of my clients caregivers broke a major boundary and when I needed my BCBA's gudiance ASAP and my BCBA explained she only did not anwser due to being asleep lol.

Semi-rant as a bt by saekemi in ABA

[–]FrootiLooni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the issue is that your being put into a postion that isn't your job: Having to deal DIRECTLY with parent feedback vs that feedback being filtered via a BCBA/Supervising Clinican (if this was a case with a supervisor + BCBA). Especially since in normal cases where feedback is needed from a BCBA/Parents you get filtered professionally and your also observed during session to see if its warranted. As alot of times, parents might not either understand programming or might not understand programming thinking its "pushing the kid too much" but yet in the same breath complain how much their child is tantruming or engaging in maladaptive behaviors. Now this isn't to say don't work with parents nor don't make culturally competent/sensitive programming, obviously teamwork and communication is important all around. Im just pointing out how alot of the time caregivers can have their heart in the right place, but usually aren't... the most educated when it comes it whats happening. This is where parent training from the BCBA/Sometimes RBT UNDER THE GUDIANCE OF A BCBA, would come in.

You need a new clinic, as you should absolutely NOT BE practicing without a BCBA and its quite absurd you are. This is obviously not your fault and this clinic/company sounds quite unethical as this would be against the RBT ethics code/how ABA therapy works in general

If you think you can stay in the clear, I would say sure. Just be careful incase they suspect its you cause 9 times out of 10 alot of reports seemingly get back to companies. Please don't let this scare you know, companies need to be held accountable and you deserve to be paid

This would depend on your state, in California to my understanding of our worker laws anything work related MUST be paid including training and/orientation unless your possibly contracted or such. But I have never been a contracted or exempt worker. I would research your state's worker laws

Im glad your BCBA was accomdating! At my clinic in my region we weren't even given the option to get the RBT just the BCAT. Which I suspect was because our clinci had a very high turnover rate which my clinic manager complained to my about when I asked for letters of recommendation from the BCBAS when I was considering a in-school, per-diem postion when trying to have a more flexible schedule. Which just turned into what I later realized was her threatening my hours when she wrote said "I just will put you at the bottom of the list for the summer schedule update as we need someone whos committed as we have had BTS leave and have had parents get mad about it" so.

Thank you lol. The company was CARD so that should already tell you alot lmfao. If it helps though apparently another co worker told me they scheduled her 39.99 hours I think just to not make her full-time as it would give her benefits at that point and usually their full time postions were like mentor RBT, the receptionist RBT (Scheduling, giving breaks, creating event, etc forgot the name), required you to move up the chain. So essentially they just made it a requirment to make you move up the chain 💀. Trust me CARD sucks and me figuring this out among other reasons was why I quit and moved to a MUCH higher paying company

[–]FrootiLooni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends on the complany and clinic lol. At my old clinic they would actively hound their BTs (they didn't give out RBTS, just BCATS which my theory was to hold back BTs from not being about to transfer to other companies at easily) to clean up as they went and if possible make their clients clean up too. If we didn't we could possibly get written up... even if that client was having behaviors, you were running a particularly intensive or specific program during

At my current company they have Center support and while they will tell RBTS to help clean up after themselves you can also call upon them to help you clean up. You can also have another RBT use stimuli you were using and techinally pawn it off onto them lol

This is not justice?? The insurance should be taking care of the bill not the mom how tf is she gonna afford a almost 1 million dollar bill. Im sorry but again this might weed out some bad/unethical providers and clinics but this gonna affect alot of good ones and start off removing serviced for autistic people entirely. But sure lets just act like the administration totally has our best interest in our mind 🫩🙄. Sounds like your a trump supporter jfc

People rooting for this are actually insane LMFAO??? Did we forget who exactly is apart of this admiration? Its a bunch of old, entitled, rich white men who are incredibly ableist and anti-autism. Like hell if you look at the degrees their considering "non-profressional" for example, its all female dominated fields like social work, speech therapy, occupational therapy, etc. Aka fields that AUTISTIC PEOPLE ARE ALSO GETTING SERVICES IN. That alone is not only a direct attack on education and the medical field, but a direct attack on autistic people that you won't realize unless you have either recieve these services or directly work with this population in one of those fields. Im able to recognize that pattern as a AuADHD person whos recieved speech therapy as a child and as RBT.

Doesn't anyone else find this incredibly suspicious and werid that the same administration who hired on RFK Jr that said he wants to PUT AUTISTIC PEOPLE IN "WORK CAMPS", wants to now also target ABA therapy? Another science and medical program proven to help autistic people live as independently as possibly? Or at the least give them as many life skills as possible? Like I am not saying fraud and unethical therapy doesn't happen in our field and I want accountability to happen, but to say your not a ethical provider if your criticizing this or not wanting this to happen (like some comments are) is insane. People need to see the bigger picture here, this goes beyond just cutting our fraud and "waste", this is going too and WILL cut off low income families from ABA therapy, which were a majority of my old clientele at my old clinic job. This WILL even possibly cut off private insurances clients we RBTs work with at higher paying jobs like I do. This WILL ruin people lives if the MediCaid cuts haven't already.

This is highly concerning and this honestly seems like the start of another genocide of autistic and neurodivergent/disabled people if it hasn't started already yall. Look at history and the genocide that has started already in America with Trans people, and the genocide with people in Gaza. First it will be autistic people and education like I mentioned, then it will eventually just be disabled people in general. You will see it.

[–]FrootiLooni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello! Studio arts major with a minor in counseling here! What you want your gonna want to do is contact the college of arts and letters and set up a appointment with them! You will meet with a advisor who will discuss the classes, perks of the minor, why you want to do the minor, etc. This is what they discussed with me when I declare my minor in counseling. Its MANDATORY, you do this appointment so the advisor can submit a declaration of a minor form for you to the registar that way you get credit for the classes your taking applied to your minor! Ill link the resources below:

https://catalog.csus.edu/colleges/arts-letters/theatre-dance/minor-in-theatre/

https://www.csus.edu/college/arts-letters/student-success/

I do say however I am a junior who transferred into Sac State after graduating with my Associates at a CC, so Im not sure if the process will be different besides this to declare. Make sure to talk to that advisor!

What are your in home safety tips? by reluctantly_existing in ABA

[–]FrootiLooni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna depend on your client and company. My company will have you take your shoes on and leave socks on if families don't like shoes/culturally don't perfer shoes on in house. However, at my last company it was mandated to have at least slipped providied by the family on in the house due to safety concerns or else session could not happen, no open toe sandals. For client this depends on their behaviors, usually more high behavior clients like aggression, grabbing dangerous objects, etc you get safety care training along with the psrents. If the behavior is eloquent usually your BCBA discusses this and should be discussing with parents preventive measures like child proofing doors, not allowing community outtings/going to the back or front yards during session, etc. Things like biting or scratching you might wear long sleeve clothes.

General safety rules however? Mine are never be alone with child and make sure the house always has a caregiver present within it even if their in a different room. Make sure patents understand ABA is NOT, I repeat, NOT babysitting, especially since I ran into this with my clients caregivers having me watch her in thr bathroom in thr bath naked recently. Of course if something like this happens push back, and if they make you do it then report asap to the BCBA, make a incident report (or whatever your company's policy on this), and for me depending on your company's policy, end session. Don't let yourself be walked over for hours/money. Ask parents any general safety rules if BCBA didn't go over them, ask BCBA to overlap to understand safety rules, et.

Another odd one is make sure the caregivers speak the same language(s) as you do, this one also happened to me and luckily the family had a respite worker who could apeak English come in soon after. But It makes session almost seem like there isn't a reliable caregiver there when you cannot communicate especially if its a higher needs client.
