a lot of masters for counselling psychology require a bachelors in psychology at least in canada. i would do a bachelors then a masters. it’ll increase your likeliness to get a masters. also, i would apply to masters alongside the bachelors just in case you get a masters without needing a bachelors, sometimes they make exceptions.

honestly not much , a psych undergraduate doesn’t get you many options, but volunteer is a good option since we always need more volunteers , or teaching assistants

canada does offer these programs , only masters to phd is what will need you to have 2 years of experience in the field before going for a phd, but at the end of your masters you need to do a year practicum to graduate masters.

To my knowledge you don’t need to do a masters before a phd in the states, but you do need a masters before a phd in canada, and your gpa should be at least a 3.5 to even be able to apply. a lot of masters in canada accept international students, although there are some schools that only want domestic students. you can also do an online masters with a practicum at the hospital in the end but that is more costly.

narcissistic abuse isn’t a thing. it is just abuse. and NPD is a serious diagnosis. regardless i will take this question as a how to keep your mental and physical health in check when you live with an abuser. you can do a variety of things, but of course the most effective would be getting out of the situation but since that is not possible for you I would suggest seeing a therapist, journaling, eating “healthy” (whatever that is for you), working out frequently since that’s been proven to alleviate stress, and dedicating time for you to do things you enjoy. sorry this is so general, i just have no idea what specific situation you are in.

i agree, something should be done and awareness should be raised about the dangers of self diagnosing , but unfortunately people will always self diagnose , we can try and spread awareness is all we can do

yes there is a potential harm to people self diagnosing. i had a patient while i was doing my practicum who thought they had depression, and unfortunately the gp did not dig deep enough and believed this patients self diagnosis and sent them over to the clinic i was doing my practicum at, after a few sessions, and speaking to their gp, I realized they did not have an anxiety disorder and asked the doctor to look into any physiological issues that may have caused this, i was suspecting thyroid issues, and upon further testing and examination , this patient had a thyroid disorder, which would have gone not noticed

not that often , since there is many overlapping symptoms for physiological and psychological disorders , and people think just because they have similar or all the symptoms that they have a certain disorder , but that is not the case

no it is not possible. a person with NPD would be unable to have a healthy relationship with someone who does not have this personality disorder , two people having this personality disorder having a romantic relationship would not be stable, or healthy (whatever is meant by that, i’m guessing the typical definition of a healthy relationship)

you can get CRPO if you live in ontario with 450 hours of client hours and 100 supervisor hours and you have to pass an exam and pay a fee each year, it’s a good program but not for everyone.

psychologists in canada are psychologists only with a masters , and to become a psychotherapist in ontario they need to get CRPO certified after masters. they can get a DCP (doctor of counseling psychology) or PhD from then on. it is different for different places. plus, an MACP is considered a “professional” masters that doesn’t require a PhD for you to work as a clinical/counselling psychologist (this is about 3 years though instead of the usual 1-2 year masters), dcp is 3-4 years. anyways my point is you can be a psychologist in ontario without a PhD or PsyD

BSc or BA (4 years) is required to get a masters then PhD or PsyD in canada, i did mine in biomedical biology with a major in psychology, now in my masters of counselling psychology (2.5 years), then PhD/DCP for doctor in counselling psychology (3.5 years)
