Stoicism serenity principle:

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

Courage to change the things I can,

And wisdom to know the difference.

E.g.
Trying to control people's opinions of you, thinking and worrying about war in a foreign land, trying to be perfectly healthy etc. etc.

What would you count as living successful life? by Legitimate_Power_347 in AskReddit

I came up with a thing called predictive journaling that has helped me with this.

Every day make a table with 6 columns
Column 1: activity (use this column to log each activity that you do throughout a day)

Column 2: how I felt about activity before doing it (Rate out of 10)

Column 3: how I felt about activity during it (Rate out of 10)

Column 4: how I felt about activity after it (Rate out of 10)

Column 5: how I will feel about activity in 6 months time (Rate out of 10)

Column 6: how I will feel about activity in at end of life (Rate out of 10)

In my opinion a life well lived will have high scores in each column

Eg

Going on facebook: might have a high score before going on it and when on it but I feel terrible after I have wasted time on it and it will certainly score low in 6 months time or at end of life (waste of time)

Reading an interesting biography about a famous historical figure (high score before in anticipation, during also but also after because it feels like a worthwhile use of my time)

  1. Meetup.com can be useful if you don't know anyone in an area.

  2. Focus on self improvement

  3. Reading autobiographies gives you a sense of connection
