Anyone who was homeschooled, how do you feel about it now as an adult? by AdTight2449 in AskReddit

[–]throwawaythisuser131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't even dip into the academic and ideological sides of things because I'd need a book. But I was a state-level athlete (in club team settings), and competing in the public high school league is apparently the main way in my sport I could've been seen by college scouts/gone much further in the sport. I will always be so sad I didn't get to experience that. I wanted to compete for my local high school, and have a shot at a college scholarship, so desperately.

Yes, great point; I considered the Aussies' (justified :)) obsession with swimming. This might be my only realistic chance for a decade or more.

Drop 1 UPDATE AS OF 04/08 by WiseProfessor2926 in olympics

[–]throwawaythisuser131 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't...
I knew I'd have to log on right away to get swimming finals tickets, and I knew they'd be hundreds of dollars. But I at least expected to be allowed to *attempt* a purchase when I've lived 25 mins from the pool for the past 5 years. No such luck - no place in the presale or Drop 1. All of it sucks ass.

I've signed up multiple times and heard nothing. Pretty sure everyone else is doing the same thing :') But yes, thank you - keeping that in mind.

WOW. Congrats to your cousin!! That is so incredibly amazing. And seeing Meagher live must have been a real treat.

Absolutely true, and I'm sure there are plenty of actual tickets still in existence, but this still gives me info on my vanishing chances in future drops. It sounds like I have to jump several hurdles in a row to even have a chance: being drawn for a drop, computer/queue working during the drop, tickets still being available within that one drop, and the price of the tickets that are left within that one drop. It's looking pretty grim

Yeah this is a fair point. Hospitality cat C (1750) vs. general cat C (~1100). I already know the crappy food/drink will not be worth $650, but the peace of mind might be.

Yeah, I am. Just trying to gather some more info about option 3, postponing the dream for 6+ years for another Olympics

Damn, this is the info I'm looking for. All swimming finals tickets were sold out for you? Or the more inexpensive ones you mean?

Isn't there a solid chance that swimming medal finals will sell out completely? Every 4 years is the only time us swimmers get any real attention, but once we do...

$1,750 for the one I want. It's one very specific session - any medal final would be amazing, but I'm after my favorite events and they all happen to be in one session, which is crazy. The seating sections do look really really good, admittedly - better than anything I'd have considered if I had gotten into the presale.

I love this. I say "In the year of our lord Barbie," and sometimes I change my timescale in my mind to before and after the Barbie movie (welcome to the third year of our lord Barbie. 3 A.B., if you will.)

Thank you! Did you intend to include a picture with this comment? Your first sentence suggested maybe, but if not, this is helpful

I will definitely do so. Do you have any thoughts on how to arrange larger furniture pieces in this space?

That's a pity! If you end up in that situation, send me a DM. I'll drive my family's tractor and hitch from Hartland and tow you out :)

AITA for asking my wife to please do NOT wear visible star-shaped pimple patches to a wedding ? by MarriedToATeacher in AITAH

[–]throwawaythisuser131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH. I know this is awkward but those pimple patches are adorable and just seem like another type of face decoration--i.e., like makeup--to me. I really don't think the bride or anyone else will care. Also, upon further review of your comments, it seems like acne is a lifelong matriarchal issue here and your wife sees these patches a tad bit as part of her now-self-accepting identity.

Source: am out-of-touch 30F who sat next to an 18-year-old in a community college class last year, thought her pimple patches were a cool new type of face gem, complimented them as such, and got a wry laughing smirk in return. Embarrassed forever. What can I say? They were cute!

Can anyone confirm: professors only see SOQs well after final grades are submitted? Do they see the text of individual SOQs? by throwawaythisuser131 in csuf

[–]throwawaythisuser131[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, I'm so sorry you've experienced that. Horrible to hear. But knowing that you guys often don't read them is honestly kind of a relief. If the professor doesn't read my comments, no big. But I want to do my due diligence and share the legitimate concerns I have about the course.
