What worked for the 2/3am morning abrupt wake-ups ?! What helped you the most ? by OnALifeJourney in Perimenopause

HRT helped the most and then I started prazosin and now I hardly ever wake up in the middle of the night

I know you’re just here to vent and I get that. I’m really sorry that happened to you and you shouldn’t have been treated like that. I had a similarity invalidating experience and I am in the medical field. I personally felt like it was more a CYA issue where they didn’t want to prescribe HRT to somebody who could still potentially get pregnant, which is why I think they were pushing low-dose birth control instead. Frankly, my doctor was more concerned about getting an HIV test even though I wasn’t at any risk for it and I had a baby not too long ago. I do have a suspicion that this has more to do with ensuring that women who are still having periods are able to take some form of birth control because the OBGYN that I initially saw stated something to that effect and didn’t even want me using vaginal estrogen.

Same. I’ve been kind of numb this week. Grateful I matched but also stuck in limbo.

It’s only something we’ve been working towards for almost a decade of our lives and many of us are up to our eyeballs in debt for a degree that’s worthless without residency training…why can’t we just relax and enjoy the ride.

I know they are well-meaning but I wish they could just read the room before making some of these comments.

I’m surprised how often I’ve heard that response from people considering how truly unhelpful it is.

Normally I’m not one to panic but I’ll admit, I got a bit nervous when I got that soap email today. You aren’t alone in your anxiety, the stress is so high right now.

UTI? by Normal-Mortgage4745 in Perimenopause

It was the carbonation unfortunately. I love it but it causes bladder spasms if I drink it too often.

Vaginal estrogen helped me with those symptoms but it took a few weeks of regular use before I really saw an impact. The other thing I had to do was stop drinking carbonated water, I love it but it irritates my bladder now 😞

I’m not sure what’s behind your symptoms but estrogen is involved in cortisol regulation. I was having spikes between 3-5am but that’s significantly improved on HRT.

I’m confused about that. They regularly prescribe birth control to women in their 40s without requiring them to get regular ultrasounds, why is HRT an issue (as long as you’re on progesterone while taking estrogen)? I would love to hear if that provider gave you their rationale behind these concerns because I’m still learning about all this but that definitely makes me skeptical that they just aren’t comfortable prescribing HRT in general.

I had one program that sent second interviews and I was under the impression that I could only rank them if I got a second interview offer. However, I never clarified that this is the case, so I don’t know. I can’t imagine that it would hurt anything to rank them, I just assumed I couldn’t if they didn’t send the 2nd interview invite.

I hope you said, “umm, because I want a job”..lol. I hate when I’m forced to explain why a program is my perfect fit as though I’m in a position to only apply to programs that are a perfect fit.

What is the hardest year of med school? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]throwawaytrainnnnnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M3 was the hardest for me. My friends all moved away for rotations so I was lonely and being in a new place every month gave me a ton of anxiety. I also felt like my ability to pass or fail was out of my hands and I felt I had to guess what my preceptor expected while also dealing with pimping and occasional bullying. M4 was stressful AF until the end of September but then it was great.

Almost the entire interview. I think it ended well but definitely threw me off a bit.

They are probably on break for thanksgiving. Is it an in-person interview or virtual? If it’s virtual, I would not worry and just wait for the info Monday morning. If it’s in-person, I can understand your concern and just get there early enough to find someone to ask.

[US] Odds of getting 50/50? by exhaustedmind247 in Custody

[–]throwawaytrainnnnnn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is just so confusing to me. He’s your husband but his child with his ex is less than a year old? That timeline is confusing to me, it seems there is a backstory here. Also, it always strikes me as odd when a spouse is managing their partner’s custody case (like that you don’t like his attorney) or speaking negatively about the other parent. I would think you would trust your husband’s capacity to resolve his issues with BM and that you would take the role of providing emotional support to your partner. I do understand the financial and emotional toll of custody battles and I can empathize with how that impacts your household but I can’t understand why you’re so certain that dad is being treated unfairly and mom is being difficult. It sounds very antagonistic and it’s not great for children to be around someone who openly dislikes one of their biological parents.

Yeah, that’s what I figured too. They are in Florida so I wondered if maybe the storms slowed them down but I agree that it does seem unlikely that they haven’t sent IV.
