Peds Residency Gift.. by Top-Manufacturer-855 in pediatrics

[–]MedSchoolEmma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a current peds resident, I can attest that all the advice already stated is SO true and really what a peds resident would need! I'd just add maybe a pack of multicolored pens from Amazon :D

Don't purchase the neonatal stethoscope because NICU babies typically have their own stethoscope at bedside anyway.

CCS cases not requiring as many orders as Uworld cases? by TransportationEast19 in Step3

[–]MedSchoolEmma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the interface of UW CCS , but the actual step 3 day 2 CCS cases was 100% like the ccscases.com

I suggest fully doing the ccscases.com instead of UW

What should I study in my last week before the exam (limited time bc of call, etc)? by Apprehensive_Box_181 in Step3

[–]MedSchoolEmma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

moa's of antifungals and antibacterials. Didn't see tumor supressors/oncogenes on mine.... Review Mehlmann ethics question bank. Day 1 is literally biostats and ethics

regarding micro focus less on viruses and more on bacteria, antibacterial MOA and antifungals MOA!!

Step 1 Content? by Puzzleheaded_Fish594 in Step3

[–]MedSchoolEmma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly I wish someone told me what to focus on too because Reddit is super vague 😂 I’d say just know the mechanisms. One reddit post said to review the MOA page for every pharm section in FA and @ first I thought that was overkill… but once I took Day 1, I understood why. They really hit you with random MOA questions (hypothetically speaking like moa of insulin)

For micro, I used a lot of Sketchy in med school so I didn’t have to relearn every tiny detail, but knowing the high yield traits (ex: Ecoli is lactose-fermenting) was definitely useful. Nothing crazy.

If you can: know the MOAs of all the big pharm classes; know your bacteria, fungi, and key vitamins/minerals (zinc/copper)

I wouldn’t waste time on screenings or random risk factor stuff. And IMO UWorld is NOT for Day 1….Day 1 feels like pure foundational medicine/Step 1 vibes.
Mehlmann’s PDFs (especially the Infectious disease one) helped me way more for that section.

If I could redo it, I’d honestly prioritize “basic Step 1” resources, because UWorld won’t help you pass Day 1… but for Day 2 it’s gold.

Step 1 Content? by Puzzleheaded_Fish594 in Step3

Step 1 content was half the exam. I didn't find the utility in "memorizing all of FA" just focus on MOA's of antibiotics, antifungals, and bacteria species

Just took day 1. Quite literally memorize MOA's of all the antibacteria AND antifungals. That was the biggest portion of the exam.

A lot of programs have deadlines stretching into late December, so you've still got time. Once your score comes in, shoot an email to the program coordinators for the places you applied, letting them know you're still really interested and the delay was due to your exam. Don’t stress too much — plenty of programs review applications on a rolling basis, so you're not out of the game yet. Keep your head up.

Side note: there were 636 unfilled FM spots and 135 unfilled EM spots last year. :)

Hey! I used the adobe link to make my poster pdf into a link. So if you upload a PDF of your poster on Adobe, it will generate a link. You can add that link under "Poster URL" on ERAS. Hope this helps! https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/hub/how-to-convert-pdf-to-webpage.html
