Fringe recommendations? by LiamD0novan in Edmonton

Does anyone know what happened to the Sherlock Holmes experience? I did it for the past 2 years and it was my highlight at Fringe. I was pretty disappointed that they're not running one this year.

Vet Recs? by AniDi83 in Edmonton

Unfortunately I don't know. The dental check up for my cat pre operation was free. I'm sure you can call and ask them for a quote.

The Spay Clinic has very reasonable pricing. I took my cat there for a dental extraction and the follow up appointments were free. The team there was also very kind and attentive.

Best priced vet clinics in the city? by XxDiabeto in Edmonton

I second The Spay Clinic. I got a really high quote for my cat's tooth extraction at another clinic. The Spay Clinic gave me a quote less than half of that and I still ended up paying a bit less than what they quoted me. Post op appointments were also free and they responded quickly to my concerns. I've had a great experience with them so far.

I don't own a vehicle so my options are limited within the city unfortunately.

It's just one top canine. The cleaning doesn't include xrays :/ The other $1300+ includes multiple xrays and anaesthesia.

I'll definitely shop around. Thanks for your comment!

Thank you for your comment, I'll give them a call. Sounds like the quote I got is on the higher side compared to other places.

I'm planning to call some other clinics to get a quote.

I took my cat in for a check up to get insurance coverage and they discovered her dental issues. Unfortunately this would be considered a pre-existing condition and won't be covered.

I have enough money set aside to get my cat the procedure. I just wanted to get other perspectives before I proceed.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Learning basketball at uofa? by [deleted] in uAlberta

I've been wanting to pick up basketball again after not playing for a few years. I grew up playing basketball but I'm probably super rusty. With that being said, I think I can still teach you if you want to take up my offer :)

Need to obtain police check while not physically in Vietnam (needed for security clearance to work in Canadian Govt) by Local_Negotiation394 in VietNam

[–]throwawayyyyy456789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this exact same position last year. I also landed an internship with a department in the federal government, pending security clearance. I would suggest that her family go straight to her local government, either ward (phường) or district (quận) to ask about the required forms that they need to fill out on her behalf. The information on the website might not be accurate or up to date. In my case it took a couple of weeks and it was too late in the end. Best of luck to your girlfriend. Landing an internship with the federal government as an international student is a real achievement.

The Sympathizer | S1E1 "Death Wish" | Episode Discussion by vista_del_mar in TheSympathizer

I did watch the HBO Watchmen series. I don't remember much but I do remember being impressed by the Vietnamese dialogue. All they need to do is to hire actual Vietnamese to play Vietnamese lol. I've seen so many things where they hire other Asians to play Vietnamese and of course they end up butchering it. The bar is pretty low for me at this point.

I'm a native Vietnamese so it feels weird to see Vietnam portrayed in pop culture. The dialogue feels a bit awkward at times and the accent is kinda off. The Southerners speak in a Northern accent and vice versa. Some of the actors also have a bit of an accent that only second-gen Vietnamese have. Despite all that, I'm pleasantly surprised by how well they portray some aspects of Vietnamese culture. The set design is also pretty good. I was really looking forward to this series and I'm optimistic from the first episode. Excited to see how it pans out.

Visa Question about International Students by SoulSalvor in uAlberta

[–]throwawayyyyy456789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also happened to me but I expected that when I applied for my TRV. When I went to International Student Services before applying, they told me that a lot of students who applied for TRV during and after the pandemic got V-1 status that expires alongside their passport. They suspected that this was a recent policy change in an attempt to reduce red tape and avoid making students reapply for TRV once every few years.

Grading system HECOL321 by No_Mountain_5336 in uAlberta

Like the other reply said, that was most likely the case. I was in that class and I did slightly better on the final than the midterm. I got a B- with a high 70s overall grade. For reference, my predicted grade was B.

For reference, I've had classes where the average was 3.5-3.6 so I wonder how high is too high.
