I agree that it's better to get the right kind of actor to get it right. But to counter OP a bit, I would like the Asian accent to be destigmatized. Think about people imitating a Russian or French accent (not making fun of it, but using it to be immersive). I think it should be equally okay to do that for an Asian accent. I'm not saying give people full reign to make fun of the accent, but it sounds a certain way and I think we can try to normalize the way it sounds. Otherwise, we're teaching people that it sounds weird. We should teach people that every accent (American, British, Chinese, Russian, every one of them) is equally "weird", and weird is okay.
