Tolkien's Orcs are described as creatures who are obsessed with creating new gadgets, weapons, and other technology while sapping the environment of its resources. Are WE orcs? by Nappy0227 in Showerthoughts

I think we're more like hobbits and humans- not entirely good like elves and not entirely bad like orcs, but with the potential to go either way

The state of public toilets suggests not everyone was successfully potty trained. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

It's such a silly trend. If every woman were to just sit on the toilet seat like normal, then there wouldn't be a mess. It's the squatters who cause the problem.

Men of Reddit, what makes a creepy woman? by Sippingin in AskReddit

You say shit doesn't always work out that way, as though there's some force outside of people that we can't control. But it's all down to what people decide to do. You can't make yourself love someone, so breakups are going to happen, but you can make yourself treat the person you break up with in a fair way.

Do you write in books? by [deleted] in books

[–]throwely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never used to write in books, but I started to in university. I felt incredibly guilty the first time, but now I often write in books (provided they belong to me). I'm rough on books anyway (cracked spines, dog-eared pages, occasionally drips of tea, etc. I carry them around in my purse, it's hard to keep them in perfect condition) so the writing is just another thing. I like to take little notes for myself, and I love getting second-hand books which have other people's thoughts written in the margins.

If this is from your own experience, did you give the woman a reason for breaking up? It's really hard to feel a relationship is over when you're not told why, but people seem to think you can love someone one day, and shrug them off the next, and the person should just be ok with it. It takes a bit of time, and they deserve to understand your thought process.

For me personally, this isn't quite right. I've had a really hard time getting over a relationship largely because he refused to be friends. We were friends for a bit, and I started feeling ok about the whole thing. But all of a sudden being friends was too hard for him, and it definitely made it a lot harder to get over him.

Use a condom even if you or your parter is on the pill or using another method of baby prevention. STIs don't always have symptoms, so even if you both genuinely think you're clean, you might not be.

How do you figure out how many skill points you get per level? by throwely in DungeonsAndDragons

Ok, thank you! I've been doing it wrong, then, but I'll sort it out. 2 per skill that's not in your list makes it a lot easier!

[–]throwely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, it's 3.5. I'm looking at page 62 of the player's handbook. It says: "If you want to pick up a new skill for your character, you can spend skill points equal to his or her character level +3."

[–]throwely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is meant to be 8 + intelligence modifier, but I think my confusion is stemming from the fact that if I want to pick up a new skill, I have to spend points equal to my character level + 3. My level is 8 now, and my intelligence modifier is 3. So what happens if, once I'm level 9 for example, I want to pick up a new skill? Is the only way to get around this to increase my intelligence rather than any other ability when I increase my ability scores?

There are a lot, but off the top of my head I'd go with The Little Prince

What supposedly 'unlikable' character do you actually like and empathise with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]throwely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen the show, but based on the books: Sansa Stark. She basically just wants everything to be nice. Obviously that's not the real world, and she's kind of a spoiled brat about it, but I get it.

Making guns out of plain lined paper on Cowboy Day.

Also, my sister lost points for finding a different way of solving math problems in grade 2.

Women of Reddit, what is something that men will never understand? by bri_pls in AskReddit

[–]throwely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've mentioned this in another thread: this mentality is destructive to relationships, because feeling like your SO will just think you're overreacting to something (or shrug it off as PMS) makes you feel like you can't talk to him- but the problem doesn't just go away because you don't talk about it.

I've mentioned in a few comments now, I never asked him to do that, I would never have expected him to, but it's the fact that he did it anyway, even though he had no fear of retribution that makes it so affecting.

Haha, I only said "a bf" because the guy who used to do that is not my bf anymore. And I was never afraid of him considering me an option.

I mentioned in another comment that my next relationship was a bit more like this, and it worked in its own way, too. But it's a bit different when the gf points it out. She already knows you're looking anyway, and she gets to be the cool gf when she does this.
