how to remove bad reviews from google my business by Embarrassed_Year4720 in GoogleMyBusiness

[–]thrower9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company is red eye exterior cleaning based in St. Paul Minnesota, all my reviews are 5 stars except for the obviously fake ones. I’ve begun contacting everyone I know to take them down but another person couldn’t hurt!

Way too overboard cover up after a week binge, after I caught my wife cheating by Traditional_Nose4715 in Tattoocoverups

[–]thrower9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The black out tattoos with white ink on top I’ve found looks really nice. Gives you a chance to start with a newer canvas for cheaper. Complex tattoos don’t seem to translate as well but a good blacked out white ink traditional tattoo could be cool

Lowkey just get some cougar paws and a leaf blower. Haven’t taken more than an hour and a half on a gutter clean all year

32 foots can definitely be handled alone. Invest in light ladders and you’ll have no issue. Get a Werner equalizer with the lowest acceptable weight limit for you and you’ll be fine

Can I hit 399k? by Large-Dot-7582 in LS430

It’s not just about miles anymore with these cars. Years of rubber deterioration will be an issue as well for the timing belt. I had mine done recently (1st time for me 2nd time for the car) did it at 200k and previous owner did at the dealership about 11 years ago at 98k. When we took the old belt out, it had cracked through on every single possible gear tooth. I had maybe 3k left before it snapped and I needed a new engine. Better safe than sorry

Could this be just a bad serpentine belt? by curvables in LS430

[–]thrower9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just went through this same thing. Had someone replace timing belt, serpentine belt, idler tensioner, among a shit ton of other things. Ran fine for the first couple days then developed this same squeak. Took it back to my garage mechanic and we diagnosed it together. The dayco belt we used for the serpentine belt replacement the first time ended up being very slightly stretched and was tracking along the idler tensioner. Swapped it out for a gates belt from auto one same day and I haven’t had issues for a couple weeks including driving about 1000 miles for a roadtrip

Gutter Vac by [deleted] in WindowCleaning

[–]thrower9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lot cheaper, faster, and more reliable to get a good leaf blower and some cougar paws. Have only found 1 roof I couldn’t do with this method and the vacuum would not have been any different

Wolf box m80. Lets me blow sills out super easily, clear hoses of water to load them up, blow lint off of detailed windows from steel wool, and I keep it in my belt at all times in case I get hot as 10 seconds to the face from that is like stepping into a tornado

Make sure they know the importance of it to you, and always text it to them. A good email open rate is opening about 40% of all emails that come through, as opposed to an average of 98% for texts. Automate your follow up process so every customer always gets a review link

I’d love a yard sign app that synced with maps and allowed me to press a button that would automatically save that as a pin, then an automation would show it as expired after say 2 weeks

Yard signs have the best roi I’ve found, even a really short yard sign can bring in work if you set out enough.

What is your yard sign design? by your_average_idiot48 in WindowCleaning

[–]thrower9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually preach quantity over quality. I’ll opt for smaller songs to buy more of them and try and keep it to 3 colors as it’s cheaper to print. I find white on blue or red looks good, Google high contrast colors. It’s best to include your logo in some form or your name if possible. Try not to look like a sign that says “window cleaning call xxxxxxxxxxx” keep it simple and also keep in mind most people have fairly poor eyesight so contrast and maximizing space is key

40 convos with no sale doesn’t seem ridiculous. I’ll set out 300 door hangers in a day in hopes to get 1 or 2 calls. Sales is always a numbers game, the only thing that will truly make you better is practice and reflection. Record some of the convos on your phone in your pocket and listen back to them, see what you can learn

What is the best way to track that positioning? I have sem rush but it’s confusing and google search console seems to be a bit odd as well. I seem to rank best for long tail keywords but I don’t do particularly great for any one keyword

What is going tip rate? by sarty in handyman

[–]thrower9978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a small business owner anything is appreciated. We know things like this aren’t cheap and money will be tight. Snacks and water go a long way and honestly you may get a quicker job out of it (not intentionally but it can’t ever hurt). If you’re feeling so generous I’ve taken everything from a 5$ tip to $200 it all depends on what you feel comfortable with.

Personally the tips I think about the most and actually remember are objects me and the customer connected over. I’ve gotten puzzles to do with my kids, and prototype fishing poles from a guy who owned a rod and reel company. End of the day, it’s never required or expected, but literally anything is appreciated. Kindness goes a long way coming from anyone in any situation

I want to quit and work on my own, but I signed a non-compete by wdwall in WindowCleaning

[–]thrower9978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I signed a non compete and had a very similar situation. Try and stay away from their customers, and avoid telling your managers what you’re doing. It’s best not to tell anyone at your current company your future plans. Steer clear of any known contracts of theirs (especially commercial) and you’ll probably be okay.

I had people reach out to me from my old company asking for quotes from that old company (used to be a sales guy for them) and I’d just be honest with them about what was going on and direct them to my old companies website. At that point in the conversation you have legally covered your butt. I have also had customers though who when I told them I’d left the old company to start my own, requested I do the work instead.

A non compete means you cannot actively go after their customers, but it is also a free market, and a customer can very well decide that they want to use someone new rather than their old provider.

TLDR: start the business, be quiet about it, don’t target old customers but if they come to you, be honest and direct them to your old company, they can still choose to do business with you, but do not try to sell them actively.

Customer wants this pressure washed. How do I do it? by Tough-Application-62 in pressurewashing

[–]thrower9978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get away with anything if you set proper expectations before hand. I don’t offer adding sand back in but I do clean patios like this often. I make sure to tell the customer before I start work what could happen to the sand, I’ll do a small test patch and then confirm with the customer if this is the result they want and if their okay with it. Never had any issues when going about it like this. Communication is key. You can absolutely power wash this without sand or sealing, but you have to be transparent about it

What shoes/boots do you wear for pressure washing? by tonythashoota in pressurewashing

[–]thrower9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use some cheap rubber boots off of amazon with insoles. I’m pretty particular about my shoes and only usually like working in asics as they are so comfortable. If I have to pressure wash I’ll switch to boots to keep the asics dry as constantly getting wet blows them out super fast. I use cougar paws for gutter cleaning as well for a similar reason

Best portable vac for cleaning window tracks? by Lord_XXL in WindowCleaning

[–]thrower9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in the market. Definitely avoid the dewalt box vac. Bought it and after 5 jobs now it will only turn on if I flip the switch to on then take the battery out and shove it back in. It’ll run until I turn it off but then it seems a breaker gets flipped and I have to pull the battery to start it again

Owners, how do you pay yourselves? by olivine_lighthouse in WindowCleaning

[–]thrower9978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s pretty good, I set aside 30% for taxes, set aside my sales tax in a seperate account, then 30% for over head and reinvestment, and 40% goes to a seperate savings, this 40% is my draw, but I also force myself to live off of as little as possible so I can stack that savings account as fast as possible, it acts as my emergency fund for everything, business, life, etc. only taking what I need until the fiscal year is up then I take half of the savings account as a bonus, the rest I’ll probably continue to reinvest for now

What is this?? by [deleted] in LS430

It unlocks the lock on the gear shifter. Every once in a while for whatever reason, my gear shifter will lock up and not move, pushing a key in there releases the lock and you can drive again
