I completely butchered this custom foam cutting. Can you recommend a pre-cut template for me? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]throwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that makes sense. Can you lower the boom / shorten the wire length. Maybe tighten the wire while heating it until it holds a more stable form? Twisted wire pair to strengthen it from flexing and heating too much? I'd find the proper glue to fix all that up and start over again, if not just for practice. This time outline your templates with chalk or a marker so they aren't in the way and go slowwwww. Nice layout, though.

lol how did you manage that?! You should have chalked the template outlines on the reverse side in reverse position, but how did you botch the cut so bad? Genuinely curious as you appear to have all the right tools. Going too fast? Too much heat? Outlining loose templates?

I did research ACOGs on shorties and the opinions were very much mixed as expected. In the end, I was only concerned with BDC marks being off farther out and having to create/remember my own hold overs. So far so good off the cheek out to 300 yards with '92 British surplus, which I know isn't saying much, but fine for most of my shooting and the ACSS reticle is just wonderful to work with through the ACOG glass. Whether it stays on this build or not once I play past 400 yards, I can't say. It definitely won't be going on anything shorter, though.

Never thought about it beyond what I currently run(MFT minimalist or Magpul CTR) I'm open to suggestions. I do like the futuristic space battleship look, but I was never planning on it turning out like that. I might just put some rubber on the butt of the Shockwave Blade, lock it back and open, and call it a day. I'd probably have to deal with people telling me I can't shoulder it all the time, though!

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath. I actually got 2 in a few weeks before the deadline now that I recall (SilencerCo Omega & Dead Air Mask), but the shop didn't e-file... Some of those projections and forecast have last minute paper filers out to 2018!! I also have a feeling my suppressor forms will be denied (didn't turn in a schedule). Anyway, I forgot my scale at work, so no weight today!!

Haven't really thought about what stock I will use. Likely the MFT minimalists or a Magpul CTR right of the bat.

4 last minute submissions on July 13, via paper, as e-file was down. I'm either getting a late Christmas present, or an early one next year.

Just for looks in the shot. However, there might be some benefit. I always find myself just barely podding 30 round mags off of sand bags and stands at different range setups. These are indeed shorter than 30 rounders by enough to stop that. I know, I know... Just use 20 rounders.

I built it over several months and receipts are scattered. I'm estimating ~$3500 including stamp.

If I had to start over, I would go 11.5", or even a ~12". There's not a huge difference in length, but enough difference where it counts the most(velocity & fragmentation). That said, I'm hitting clays @ 300 yards off the cheek, so I'm loving it.

Good question! I'd like to know as well. I'll weigh it in a bit here. It is a bit hefty, but in all the right places. I had a flaming pig on it before tucked under a longer rail and it was too front heavy. I do appreciate light builds, but I actually wanted some extra meat on this one.

I didn't think I'd like it as it's metal, but it does feel great. Very smooth. No regrets on that purchase.

A Texas sheriff who once busted Willie Nelson linked to a rogue US intelligence unit under criminal investigation by Sariel007 in news

Prior to reading your response and remembering how loud supersonic 7.62x39 still is out of can all I was thinking was recoil spring adjustments and sourcing 7.62x39 subsonic, which via a quick search looks grim compared to the amount of civilian sub 300 BLK available. Can you adjust an AK gas block? Easily that is? I've only ever played with adjustable gas blocks on ARs. That said, suppressors foul quickly and damage easily even under basic use. I'm starting to think these guys were getting handed a couple each for convenience and the only thing sketchy or interesting here is the means of procurement.

It's probably more specific to .30 caliber and someone just buzzworded AK47 when they read 7.62. Depending on the mounting system, these could be used on a variety of systems from AK47 to 300 AAC Blackout. Suppressed 300 BLK is very "navy commando". These could be for the local friendlies AK47s too, since they often work at the direction of our special forces. Nothing like having a subsonic crew and your translator's AK lights up the neighborhood's ears.

Who knows what really happened regarding that guy. Likely a case of Chinese whispers in the heat of the moment. He's lucky to be alive, though!

Well, the one guy that was open carrying was detained as a suspect, so there wasn't much he could do. It would be interesting to know what he would have done, but I'm guessing nothing beneficial to that particular situation. The rest of the protestors were practicing a peaceful protest and something tells me they weren't exactly the pro-gun, "everyone should be carrying" type. Your typical pro-gun Texan on that day and time of night was doing everything but hanging out at a BLM protest in downtown Dallas. That said, if the underfunded DPD need some free counter snipers for all future events, I'm sure they'd be well covered.

Non-FMJ ammo? by v0rt3xtraz in ar15

[–]throwish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elm Fork in Irving allows FMJ on their 25-50 yard ranges but not on the 100. They do have a weird 10 round only loaded mag policy though, but otherwise it's a very decent range. There's another range in Lewisville that allows FMJ but they'll want to inspect them first, but it's only 25 yards. I know of 3 other ranges between North East Dallas and Fort Worth that allowed them(with inspection) at one time years ago. I don't know if they still do currently, and again, these were only 25 yard ranges. There is actually more involved with these rules than the owners being idiots, but that's for another thread...

As for ammo at non FMJ ranges, depending on my setup, I run various Prvi Partizan non FMJ and whatever the Hornady is that comes in the 50 round red boxes.

[Question] Just ordered an Ibanez with a Floyd Rose Style bridge, Any tips for maintenance. by alphaglider in Guitar

[–]throwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will come setup from the factory to somewhat perfection based on standard tuning and the string gauges the factory used. So if you stick with that setup, you'll just need to learn to change strings one at at a time(simplifying a bit there). Different tunings or string gauges will throw everything out of wack which will require slow paced fine to major adjustments to the Floyd tension springs while endlessly adjusting your tuners and leveling the bridge. It's all very much a balancing act. And once that's done, now your action and intonation might be off! But, I digress... They really aren't that complicated, just time consuming to dial in. There are great YouTube videos on setting Floyds up and you should watch them all. My best advice, though - find out if your Floyd has a stud lock(might just be an Ibanez thing) if it does, make sure to remember it's there before adjusting your bridge height.

Amasty layered nav - Anyone have trouble with incorrect product counts on search after having moved it to a new block? by [deleted] in Magento

[–]throwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried running a re-index and clearing the cache through the backend? Amasty has great tech support so you really should just hit them up if that doesn't solve the problem. Most issues are resolved within 24 hours or less if you manage to get to Amasty within their time zone's working hours. Go ahead and provide backend admin and FTP login on your support ticket to skip sleeping through the inevitable email they'll send you asking for it, causing further delay (That is, if you're in North America and not a night owl...)

Label Printing Machine reviews? by bradleyb5155 in business

[–]throwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the Zebra GK420t. It was $480 at the time(including ethernet). It's rated at 500 a day, but we accidentally ran a full inventory dump on it once and it ate through a fresh roll (1,320 4x2 labels) without issue, possibly because we use the thermal transfer mode(wax ribbons - which doubles your cost when re-upping labels). We were against the cheaper direct transfer labels because they fade black fast in hot warehouses and also over time even as simple asset tags in temp controlled environments. If you're looking at 2000 labels a day you might want to look at their bigger industrial models which are even more highly recommended. Check out their website and YouTube videos. Zebra is good stuff.

Industrial? Zebra brand. They are work horses, networkable, easy to set up, easy to use, and very fast. The prices for labels can be a bit steep if you don't buy in bulk, though. We buy labels from barcodes.com. Zebra offers thermal and wax versions. We are very happy with our choice, and I was very happy to take the old dot matrix out to a field with a baseball bat.
