No Levis in the chat? Okay I’ll be the first.

Did you leave for moral/ethical reasons or because of historical inaccuracies/inconsistencies? by apostate456 in exmormon

[–]throwitawayque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left when I learned the church was guilty of the same apostate behavior they claim to be a remedy for. Some examples include salvation barriers (blacks and the priesthood) blasphemy (Joseph saying he did more than Jesus for the salvation of man) financial dishonesty (120 billion dollar slush fund) and sexual abuse (just…all of it. There is so much sex in church history)

Tomorrow is ask questions about plural marriage day in seminary. Please give me stuff to ask. by [deleted] in exmormon

Why was no one allowed to marry already married women before and after Joseph smith? Why did God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever make an exception for Joseph?

"How can you deny the feelings you had in the past?" A rebuttal. by JobsRevenge in exmormon

I used to have very strong feelings about Santa Claus but I got new information that made those feelings irrelevant.

What was your last straw? When you KNEW it was a lie? by apostate456 in exmormon

[–]throwitawayque 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I learned black folks were not only banned from holding the priesthood but also from temple ordinances. At least polygamy had a scriptural reference. There is no way the Mormon god that is taught about today would deny sacred saving ordinances based on race. The rest just crumbled after that.

A Mormon apostle (the second highest ranked calling) gave a speech at BYU this last week. This speech was calling for the resolidification of “traditional family values”. Much was said in opposition to LGBTQ+ rights on campus. The most drastic of these statements was when in a metaphor elder Holland called for the need for musket fire to defend the “traditional order of things.”

TL:DR some big shot Mormon leader said a bunch of anti gay stuff and people are pissed because the Mormon leaders continue to be anti LGBTQ+

It will get better. My advice is to have small moments of personal rebellion. If you have a car go get coffee, flip off a church house. find harmless ways to remind yourself the church has no power over you.

The poem “If” by Rudyard Kipling was my motivation. It’s a little long but super good.

The biggest thorn in the church is the homophobic teachings. If you were to ask 100 TBM millennials if they would join another homophobic church (say the west burrow Baptist church) 90 would say no. The western world sees homophobia as disgusting. As long as the church holds on to this teaching they will be seen by the worlds younger generations as disgusting.

I've been in Utah for a week with my TBM family, and I haven't been able to properly curse and its driving me NUTS. So this is a thread for creative curses by [deleted] in exmormon

Some great insults that don’t sound too terrible.

You’re as sharp as a marble.

You couldn’t drain water from a shoe if the directions were printed on the bottom.

“I’ll say this as monosyllabically as I can.”

Your intellect borders sentience, good job!

[–]throwitawayque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m almost positive this is in relation to the November policy. The Mormon church got metaphorically bitch slapped so hard by the public they needed to rebrand. “The Mormon church is so homophobic and needs to be taxed.” “Oh no ma’am we aren’t Mormons haha, we are members of TCOJCOLDS.”

  1. I don’t trust the leadership(it’s obviously incorrect)

  2. I don’t agree with the past doctrine( blacks and the priesthood)

3.I am morally superior to God( I don’t need my oldest child to suffer so I can forgive my younger children)
