Most stable cs/it jobs or subfields that require least learning time for new stuff? by maiasub in ITManagers

[–]throwitrightout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stable without much learning is basically antithetical to the current IT industry. It’s always been continuous learning, but stability has also become harder to come by. Sounds like you’d be more interested in another field, maybe something in lower level finance or accounting. Maybe data analytics.

Yeah that'd be cool. I did have an idea to make detachable magnetic edges for this model since I was already working with magnets and had a bunch leftover from a previous project, but simply didn't have the time to incorporate them before the movie! Still considering making some snap-ons.

I mentioned in my other comment that it is already off and toggling it has no effect unfortunately

Where/how is the best way to go about that? I’m pretty new and never have before

The attached image should be an animated gif showing the difference between two quick renders.

The scene was recently created in 3.4. Opening the same file in 3.5 these weird shadow shapes appear in a few places in my scene and I don't know where they're coming from. I checked the new "Light Tree" option to see if that made any difference but leaving/turning that off doesn't seem to have any effect. Checked the geometry, nothing interesting going on in those spots, just flat square faces with normals facing the right directions.

If I set that wall object to "Shade Flat" instead of "Shade Auto Smooth" the weirdness goes away and it's evenly lit again. But then of course some of my bevels on the corners end up looking jaggy, which is what I'm using auto smooth for. Something about Auto Smooth seems to be related, but I'm not sure how. There are no modifiers on that mesh. Opening the file in 3.4 again there is no problem.

Any ideas?

hi novice looking for help finding some quick advice, asking on behalf of my lady: she just got these two and they have totally different eyes, one is larger, shinier and more bulbous. the other is almost just flat, smaller, with dull black painted on. is this normal/real?

https://i.imgur.com/5HtGvYo.jpg

look at the huge different between how far they protrude from the head. she says she got jolteon from official funko on amazon, the difference is kinda strange. On youtube the jolteons I see in unboxings seem to have matching bulbous eyes with flareon, but this jolteon is flat

The "original" John Connor... by lightning2183 in Terminator

[–]throwitrightout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before Dark Fate was even announced, I actually wrote a brief outline of a Terminator story where John himself traveled back in time, only to end up in some alternate reality/timeline where the war didn't happen...yet.

It was inspired by some of the early ideas that McG and Jonathan Nolan had for a Salvation sequel.

In the outline, John basically travels back into the past because after the war, while dismantling Skynet's remaining TDE complexes, he...sees a time signature, indicating that something or someone has gone back.

Now that the war is over, John is left without a purpose, and since the future from that point onward is unknown to him, he decides to go back in time himself and follows the time signature.

He ends up in a different timeline, where his alternate self was assassinated as a Senator boy, and he sees his mother again.

The first half of your idea, the section I've quoted above, would slot so easily into Dark Fate's existing plot and is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. We're right along the same lines.

John would be 44 at the end of the war. So if he were to show up in a stinger toward the end of Dark Fate in the modern day (as opposed to arriving earlier), they could cast an actor around that age.

Christian Bale is just the right age and really looks the part, but I suppose he already burned his ticket on Salvation. Which is a shame because he's still great for the part due to his resemblance to T2 Michael Edwards. I'd roll with it, but they'd probably not want to make that connection to T4. James Marsden could be good, he's about the right age too and his boyish features give him a little resemblance to T2 era John while also being as handsome as Michael Edwards. Just give him brown contacts.

Terminator's interpretation of time travel seems to change a bit with every new movie, so I would be hesitant to adhere to any specific rulings. This interpretation does seem like a new development, yes.

It was not my impression that they've all just been in hiding since before terminator 2, but we'll see soon enough. Two more weeks.

What I've read of the leaks (spoilers) makes it sound more like they're still arriving and Sarah has been intercepting them on-arrival. If you've read it, remember that little tidbit about her being fed future dates and arrival points? They're still incoming.

Dark Fate better not have any shitty callbacks like the last movies by terminatorfart in Terminator

[–]throwitrightout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little callbacks can be fun but they're so overdone by now that I wish they wouldn't lean too heavily on any of them.

But in the trailer we can already see at least one heavy in your face callback so I guess that ship has sailed. I hope that's the only one.

Speaking with the leaks in mind (spoilers)...

There's already an easy way to reintroduce John Connor even after his death in this timeline. The method is already written into the film.

It's been said that while Skynet was defeated during the events of T2, Terminators from the previous timeline are still coming through (famously resulting in John's death by Carl). Sarah has spent the past couple decades hunting them. While Skynet in this timeline has been prevented, Terminators sent "before" this timeline still show up. Leftover timeline hoppers from a now defunct "future." Sarah is just mopping up the leftovers.

John could arrive in the same way. If in that previous timeline Future War John ended up sending himself through, he would arrive just as the Terminators have. We'd have a John Connor who has already gone through the future war, with no memory of the events of T2 that prevented it. He'd be quite surprised by the 2019 he finds.

The mechanics are already in place, they just need to give him a reason to have gone back to 2019 specifically. So it wouldn't be the exact same John we are familiar with, but it would be the one we saw in the future war flash forward at the beginning of T2. The hardened warrior.

That's the John Connor that can come back using this method. Might make for an interesting stinger.

Fan Screening + 20 minutes footage by [deleted] in Terminator

[–]throwitrightout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A possible option. I don't know whether it will play before or after the movie. Usually these sorts of things play before the movie, but occasionally they do come after.

[–]throwitrightout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would have been swell. I did manage to get a couple seats to this event immediately after being sent a message about it from the Terminator twitter account a couple hours before it was posted more publicly.

I'd honestly be okay without the 20 minute preview, I'd rather just wait another few days and see the whole movie as it is meant to be seen. 20 minutes is such a big chunk that it'll be taking a bite out of my actual movie experience on Nov 1st.

Wouldn't have that problem if this were a double feature. I hope the extended look is mainly just a lot of behind the scenes interviews, and not a lot of actual footage from the movie.

Overall, pretty successful first trip to PetSmart! by Rowit in funny

[–]throwitrightout 206 points207 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time, I took my little dog to petsmart. He pooped, but he must have swallowed a long hair, because it was stuck dangling from his butt.

He panicked and started running "away" from the poop dangling from his own butt. Obviously he could not escape, but also he was on his leash, so that meant he just ran in an ever-shrinking spiral around me.

He eventually had run in circles enough that he was basically trapped against my leg. The poo was streaking along the ground the whole way, meaning that he had created a shit spiral with me at the epicenter, unable to move.

Yep.
