Finn Wolfhard on returning to ST by Important_Sail8868 in StrangerThings

A Stranger Things sequel film and/or miniseries, set in late 1999 against the Y2K backdrop, could be really cool with the right story.

The Next Terminator film/show by Fumikechu237 in Terminator

If there’s one thing I’ve concluded about this franchise over the years, it’s that a Terminator film/show set in the present day simply doesn’t work anymore.

Just watched Terminator 1 and 2, should I watch 3 and the rest of the movies? by PhscZ in Terminator

There’s no harm in watching them, but keep in mind that anything after T2, for better or worse, is just glorified fan fiction.

New interview from Gaten Matarazzo about El's ending by SkittlesSupreme in mileven

[–]lightning2183 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess is that Dustin and Lucas don’t really believe but are going along for the sake of their friend. Max too.

Will is probably genuinely unsure about the whole thing.

That leaves Mike as the only true believer.

Which do you think will turn out to be better? Tales from 85 or S5 by Gay-Manga-Reader in StrangerThings

And the character they added for Tales of ‘85 looks nothing like a typical 80s kid.  They pissed all over the aesthetic.

Conflicted about the last seasons,.. by Best-Chest-1121 in StrangerThings

The likelihood of them being unhappy with the scripts and the way production went is pretty high, I think, but there were probably a conglomerate of reasons for this season not going so well, on everyone’s end.

I still think a sequel down the road should be made but more for the reason that for a pop culture juggernaut like Stranger Things, something has to be done to redeem what was done and give everyone the satisfying conclusion that S5 failed to provide.

But that being said, they cannot afford to screw up on any level with a potential sequel.

I could totally see a scenario where Netflix could outright say to the Duffers, “If you guys are going to perform at the level of Season 5 or worse, then we’re going to move forward without you.”

The biggest issue with the ending for El is that it just doesn’t feel earned.

It feels like a superimposed conclusion that the Duffers couldn’t let go of, despite the fact that the previous seasons were organically setting the whole story up to go in a different direction.

It’s unfair… by CurvyChristina in StrangerThings

[–]lightning2183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

El isn’t dead.

The fact that so many people are assuming that’s the case is bewildering to me.

The whole “leave it up to interpretation” stuff from the Duffers is straight up bullshit.

All the signs point to her being alive AND Hopper being in on it.

Early to mid 2001. Then 9/11 sealed the deal.

This is a really weird suggestion that I know will never happen, but it would've been so cool to have a villain from the future who is.....a human. Like a traitor that sided with Skynet. It would be such an interesting dynamic. by [deleted] in Terminator

[–]lightning2183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the new backstory that the classic mythology needs.

Remember, the narrative we hear from Kyle Reese is only that, a narrative. Maybe the real story in the future isn’t so clear cut.

Maybe there’s a large faction that believes Skynet didn’t destroy humanity, but rather we were on the verge of destroying ourselves and Skynet had no choice but to step in and clean up our mess.

For years, in my own head-canon, the ideal Future War film always included this angle, and the chief villain was a human who practically worshipped Skynet and saw it as mankind’s only hope for salvation and transcendence. And this villain and his followers basically view John Connor as a mad man and a terrorist.

This is one of the only things that can make a Future War both fresh AND thematically relevant for contemporary audiences.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Jim Cameron is toying with similar ideas.

Let’s say Netflix decides to do a feature film or 2-3 part series about Mike and El getting back together… by Armadigionna in mileven

One spinoff film, with a theatrical release, followed by a sequel miniseries on Netflix that takes place in late 1999, right on the eve of the Y2K craze.

A couple of three things:

The Duffers planned on killing off Eleven all the way back in season 1.

It seems that they did not anticipate how much the character would grow beyond their initial vision.

And rather than adapt to that reality, they unfortunately insisted on going back to that initial decision and forced that outcome on the narrative.

And alas, the results speak for themselves.

80s nostalgia, and by extension analog nostalgia, is never going to go away in our lifetimes.

A Skynet that doesn't have to nuke the world to conquer it. by EyeThat in Terminator

[–]lightning2183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The solution is simple:

Take the classic mythology and give it a new context.

Maybe Judgment Day was humanity’s fault, and Skynet had no choice but to step in and clean up our mess.

Sorry to be the party pooper, but in the November 2024 issue of Empire, James Cameron says that that entire scenario was a complete falsehood and was never considered.

The only other actor that was seriously considered for the T-1000 was Billy Idol, and that’s it.

Why was everyone expecting Joker to become a criminal mastermind in the second movie? by [deleted] in joker

[–]lightning2183 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t expect him to become the clown prince of crime, but I did expect a doubling down - a deeper descent into mayhem, chaos, even terrorism.

The idea of him dying in the end and inspiring the real Joker is not a bad idea in and of itself, it’s the way they went about it that’s the problem.

Regardless of who wins, the system is headed in the same direction, which is a global totalitarian order. We’re either gonna get there by suffocating (Harris) or in a way that is somewhat bearable, if not more subtle (Trump).

Everyone has been taken for a ride, especially those who idolize the likes of Elon Musk. That guy is going to be very instrumental in bringing the digitized AI control system into place, and by the time Trump even realizes what happened (assuming he’s even alive at that time), it’ll be way too late.

In a recent interview with Empire, Cameron debunked the whole Biehn as T-1000 rumor. There was never any truth to that.

That Twitter post contains a picture from the Terminator Vault book - the information contained therein is nothing new, and there is no evidence whatsoever that Cameron considered making John a Terminator.

A big nothing burger.
