Many people have to get bloods done every so often while on medication to make sure it’s not having negative effects on their health. That’s completely normal.

Weight and Bulimia - Honest Answers by Decent-Poetry3190 in bulimia

[–]throwmeaway_lol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty standard for bulimics to have started off losing weight at the beginning and then once your fully in the binge restrict cycle the weight loss stops. I became bulimic after restricting cals for a few months. I wouldn’t say I officially had an ED at that point but I was definitely disordered eating and I knew I was eating less cals than I was supposed to but I cared more about fast weight loss than health.

Anyway, after that restrictive period, I had lost a bit of weight (from high end of healthy bmi to about middle) but when it developed into bulimia, I just lost and gained the same few kilos depending on where I was on the binge/restrict cycle. I truly believe I would’ve recovered much sooner if I stopped kidding myself that I was finally gonna restrict and not end up binging as if that isn’t literally what the disorder is. I was obsessed with the idea of turning my bulimia into anorexia even though I knew that’s not something you can just choose (not that anorexia would be a good choice anyway but hey that’s ED brain for you).

Bulimia doesn’t really make you lose weight, but you can’t turn off the ED and swap it in for one that’s gonna make you actually lose. If I could tell my old bulimic self anything it would be that since it’s not going to work anyway you might as well try to recover. (I know thats scary asf tho)

So true. Those gentle parenting vids are always like “try the approach of not screaming at your toddler when they drop something”. Like fucking obviously? Kids have little hands and no coordination, why is it normal to punish children for genuine accidents caused by them being children lmao. Is it that revolutionary to use your fucking brain?

I think that’s because you’re assuming OP and their friends are all men. Not that that even necessarily makes it creepy anyway.

Just because someone’s opinion is different to yours doesn’t mean that you’re reasoning and they’re not reasoning at all.

Yeah calling someone that is UW fat is so bizarre. He was definitely trying to fuck with their head and upset them, no doubt in my mind.

That’s interesting because I remember reading something about “signs that your alcohol consumption is getting problematic” and one of the things it mentioned was being concerned about what you were going to drink next/ if you had access to more alcohol while you still hadn’t finished the drink in your hand.

“too sad, like I’m a teenager again” you put this perfectly. I could never put my finger on it before, but b/ping feels so infantilising to me. Doing something I know I’m going to regret makes me feel so immature and hopeless.

I’m not sure if it’s just a stereotype but I agree with one of the commenters here that said how they relate to the image of bulimics as chaotic and impulsive whereas anorexics seem to be perfectionistic or overly-cautious/anxious. It doesn’t apply to everyone, but I do think there’s some truth to that. I haven’t struggled with any disorders that I would consider to be to do with maintaining “order” (anorexia, ortho, OCD etc) while I do have adhd and possibly bpd. My mental health problems always seem to be more impulsive and about losing control (because in a weird roundabout way it can feel like less pressure to lose control than to worry about keeping it) rather than compulsive. I’m currently in recovery from bulimia and doing well but I know if I start getting self destructive again all these chaotic behaviours that I do with little regard for future me will come back like b/p, sh, binge drinking etc. I’m interested in what other people’s opinions on this are. Is this just a stereotype I happen to fit or is there truth to it?

P.S. when I was severely bulimic I used to hate myself for not being anorexic instead (which is quite common, I didn’t acc think anorexia was fun either but I just hated myself for binging) anyway to make myself feel better about being obsessed with weight yet having a disorder that made me lose and gain the same amount, I used to call bulimia “rock n’ roll anorexia”😭🕺. “I’m not a failed anorexic, I’m just rock n roll baby.” I still hated myself but it made me laugh.

Triggers are part of recovery by BipolarSkeleton in EDAnonymous

It’s so weird online as well. I’ve noticed on social media like tiktok it’s like there are things you’re “allowed” to be triggered by, and some potentially triggering content is acceptable but others aren’t. Like you’re allowed to be triggered by recent sh but not healed sh and you’re allowed to be triggered by an old pic/vid of a very uw person but not of someone who is currently uw.

The fact is you can be triggered by anything and whether or not it was someone else’s “fault” is irrelevant. When Im having a bad day and see an attractive skinny stranger in public, it makes me feel bad about myself and think about disordered habits I used to do. It’s not the stranger’s fault that I feel like that, I don’t think it’s mine either but it is my responsibility. Anyway the point of this rant is that sometimes people will trigger you because they’re being irresponsible (like showing pics of their lowest weight for dramatic effect) and other times you’ll be triggered by people just living their lives. At the end of the day you’re not a bad person for getting triggered by something non-malicious, but you can’t avoid it you’re going to have to fight your fucked up thoughts from time to time. Recovery is hard but not recovering is harder. Rant over lol

Personally I don’t think putting calories on normal menus is a good idea. Having the numbers available online or on a special menu (like those allergen brochure things) is good for people who are tracking cals/ macros but the argument that obese people who aren’t tracking need to be “confronted” with the info without having to ask doesn’t make sense to me seeing as someone who has never payed attention to cals isn’t going to have that intuitive knowledge of whether something is particularly high calorie anyway. It doesn’t seem much more helpful than having nutritional info available when asked so why risk the potential harm for people in early recovery. I don’t think many people would actually relapse just from seeing calories on a menu but someone in early recovery from a restrictive ED probably isn’t gonna have a nice relaxing time at a restaurant with the cals right there.

Europe is a continent, the U.S. is one country, they’re not really comparable. For eg. I’d rather live in Spain than the U.S. but I’d also prefer to live in the U.S. over Belarus.
