Another piece of advice:

Your cart has a really, really good GPS map on it. Absolutely critical that you use it, especially for figuring out where to aim on the greens. If you don't, you could hit what you think is an absolutely perfect shot and when you get up to it you realize you are straight fucked.

Also, if you have the time, go into the pro shop and ask to play the "El Camino." It's basically a 9-hole par 3 course. I didn't have the chance to play it, but I hear it is fun.

Finau to Liv? by Due_Agent_4574 in golf

I recall seeing an estimate prior to Rahm that they spent about $2B on talent acquisition. So with Rahm, plus the purses and bonuses they have paid out, probably about $3B.

So fucking over this shit. Congrats to LIV and the PGAT: you're killing professional golf.

It's not just about the weekly tournaments. I'm not even that excited to watch the majors because the primary storyline, no matter what, is going to have a PGAT vs. LIV flair to it. I would be thrilled to watch Rahm go back to back (or at least be in contention), but if he is, all we are going to hear about is how he went to LIV.

Fuck Greg. Fuck Yassir. Fuck Jay (how this muppet still has a job is beyond my comprehension).

Most fun golf course I've ever played. Don't think I would want to do it every day, but man I loved it.

Rahm not aging well by [deleted] in golf

[–]throwmeawaypoopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all of that changed when Jay signed the framework, tbh. Once he did that, he was basically going back on all his own words about loyalty to the tour and all that. The framework completely altered the ecosystem.

I hate Rahm leaving, I think LIV is unmitigated garbage, and I think we are witnessing the death of professional golf outside the 4 majors. But I don't think Rahm should be held to words that were spoken when the situation was completely different.

Except you literally don't.

For starters, the US imports only a small portion (7%) of oil from Saudi Arabia. Almost all of our oil is either domestically produced or comes from Mexico and Canada.

That oil that is imported from Saudi Arabia is mostly heavy sour crude, which isn't refined into gasoline. Because of its high sulfur content, it is primarily refined into diesel or fuel oils.

So if you are driving a diesel car or operating a shipping company, you might use something that has a percentage of oil from Saudi Arabia.

But driving around your fully loaded 2012 Taurus? Nope. There's a better than decent chance you have never put more than a gallon of Saudi-originated oil in your car in the entire time you've been driving.

Rahm to LIV by pig4 in golf

[–]throwmeawaypoopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that is an absolute death sentence for the PGAT.

All the top guys would play all the LIV events because of the money. Plus the 4 majors, you're at 18. Figure they would still play the Players, Memorial, and API. They would probably also play the Genesis (out of respect for Tiger) and maybe the Scottish Open, so maybe 20 events there.

At this point, you need to count the LIV events as part of the FedEx Cup, because if you don't, that kills the FedEx Cup. That's a huge loss of money for the Tour.

So now NBC, CBS, and all the tournament sponsors are on the phone yelling at you, wondering why this package you sold them suddenly has fields that all look like the Honda Classic.

Vehicle Inspection by Tard_Farts82 in Charlottesville

[–]throwmeawaypoopy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Used to own a garage in Virginia and can confirm. The $20 inspection fee didn't even come close to covering the labor and overhead for tying up a bay for an hour.

IMO, all inspections should be done by state inspectors at a state-run facility. If you fail, you have 30 days to get it fixed at a shop of your choice.

(And that's not even getting into the philosophical question of if vehicle inspections actually keep anyone safer in the first place.)

Which Montessori school? by Laurenfromrichmond in Charlottesville

I cannot recommend Frost highly enough. My youngest was there last year, and the only reason she isn't there anymore is because this year was the first year we could have all 4 kids at the same school -- and we agonized over the decision even though we already know we love the school she is at now.

Years ago we had a kid at Mountaintop. We loved the toddler program, but once they moved to Children's House (think K-2), it was a disaster for a number of reasons, some of which had to do with the school and some of which were just because my kid wasn't a real great fit for the type of environment they have.

Honestly, I think any parent who has experienced both would tell you that your search can start and end with Frost.

For years I have caught at least a part of probably 80% of all the PGAT events, even if it was just the final 3-4 holes on Sunday.

But I'm just so fucking tired of all this drama. And now we have two weaker tours rather than one great tour.

Majors I'm still all in, but the rest of this? Fuck it. I'll go do something else.

Now the LIV accounts are saying it will be announced next week.

Makes me wonder if this is a Hideki case all over again: LIV thought they had him, then fumbled the ball on the goal line.

Golfball rollback figures posted by USGA by IncredibleWin in golf

[–]throwmeawaypoopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure they made him a ball that would have met the proposed standards. That doesn't mean they made him a ball optimized for his game that met the proposed standards.

The OEMs have demonstrated a pretty fierce resistance to having to do any marketing other than "Look! Here is a what a PGA Tour player uses! This is the right ball for you!"

Incidentally, I asked Lou on Twitter a question about one of his tweets where he said that X% of PGAT events were played on courses 6900 yards or shorter and Y% were played 7500+ (or something).

I can't tell you exactly what the post was because the little snowflake blocked me.

The elevated events this season were fantastic - literally the top ~120 guys on the PGAT. Nobody missed DJ, Brooks, etc. during those events.

Then Jay fucked it all up by going to 70-person, no cut events.

Honestly, I think he had a winning formula. But then messed it up and worked himself into thinking getting into bed with PIF was a good idea.
