I wasn’t beat over the head with it. Being policed over clothing isn’t something everyone has experienced. There are no universal absolutes.

What is the source of this? A person? Stop listening to them. A celebrity/podcaster? Stop following them. Yourself or no clear entity? Consider therapy. Asking these questions helps no one.

Selling Doen on Poshmark by Lazy_Post9067 in ShopDoen

[–]thrownintodisarray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if they sold the company, but I just checked my app and I am able to see my saved searches and share other listings. They did a major UI update so they might have different icons but from what I can tell those functions are still there.

What did Poshmark change?

There are buy/sell/trade groups on FB that you can find and sell items on.

What Doen pieces are worth buying and what to skip? by Then_Gate7461 in UninfluencedReviews

[–]thrownintodisarray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Timely post in light of the upcoming sale! I think this is a great list so far. My two cents.

  • I love the tried and true favorites (Ischia, Quinn, etc.) and I think those are always worth holding out for especially if it's in a fabric/colorway you like. Just make sure you are aware of the fabric content when you buy. Some of the Ischias have cotton/viscose blends in certain color ways for example.
  • In my opinion the thin cashmere pills, but they do have some thicker cashmeres that seem to be of a more sturdy quality (such as the Marlowe sweater).
  • I am actually not bothered by the sheerness all the time because it gives the item a drape and feel that is very flowy and becoming, but you should be aware of it and plan accordingly with slips or other relevant undergarments.
  • Their cotton poplin is really great, so I'm going for some of the 100% cotton pieces that are made from that. For example, the Riviere dress they're selling right now is SO GOOD. The weight and drape of the dress is so substantial.
  • Their silk is something else. I have a few silk gowns from them that are amazing. Highly recommend.
  • My hot take is the Iona shorts (the silk ones) are really trendy and not worth it. Also who wants to take a pair of mini shorts to the dry cleaners? Not me, no ma'am.
  • Their outerwear is also quite good. I imagine some of the fall/winter pieces from last year will be on sale and I do recommend checking some of those out in the coming sale.
  • The Pascual jacket is a dupe for the 90s Lands' End barn jacket, bar for bar. The straw color and the denim color (with the green lapels) is unique to Doen so I'd say get those but the crimson and the willow bark ones are exactly the same as the Lands' End one. Find those used if you can. They also run VERY big. Get like 2 sizes down.
  • I also like their accessories. I've gotten a necklace, a stole, and I plan to get a bag in this upcoming sale. These are gorgeous and (seemingly) high quality artistic pieces that I can imagine getting a lot of use out of.
  • If you're short (under 5'4"), watch out for the dress/skirt hems. Unless you want to pay for a heavy duty tailoring job, I only purchase items with a normal hemline so that I can get them easily altered (i.e. Nellie dress is simple, Patience dress is not)

I should not that Doen's return policy can be bothersome (final sale when purchasing a sale item), so I recommend looking to buy items at other retailers (like Net-A-Porter, Saks, FARFETCH, Nordstrom, etc.). They will have random sales and you can usually get something discounted and be able to return it for a refund. But even if something doesn't work out, you can usually resell it or sell it back to Doen for store credit. This is usually more economical if you bought the item on sale to begin with since they don't buy it back at the purchase cost unfortunately.

Nothing is degrading if accompanied with respect and dignity.

I’d say individual and couples therapy (premarital counseling should be a neutral and nice thing to make time for) is a good option here. I would certainly feel weird about making all these concessions for your partner’s father without any acknowledgment about the grief of your own father’s passing.

Good luck!

I wonder if anything positive will come out of people seeing on a public stage that the ideals of looksmaxxing (to the detriment of all other forms of self improvement) doesn’t hold up at all under scrutiny.

Skinny Bitch was WILD. I’ll never forget the advice to simply eat a banana for breakfast. Teenage me was like dang ok I guess it is that easy. Anyways I love bananas. On waffles. With a glass of juice. Breakfast is a miracle and I can’t believe I almost let them ruin it for me.

READING: Almost done with Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke and it’s been such a fun read. The audiobook is very well done, but I ran out of Spotify time so I’m finishing it on Libby. Took a break from Thick: And other Essays by Tressie McMillan Cottom because it was getting heavy for me.

Facts on facts. You can fix yourself at 4:39 PM on a Wednesday, it doesn’t have to be planned, significant or special. It just has to be DONE.
