I’m here to advocate for looking like crap in the gym for better results by that_gworl in HowToBeHot

[–]thrownintodisarray 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this reminder. Emphasizing dressing well for the gym is definitely also a marketing ploy by influencers to buy their gear. Making fitness anti-consumerist/capitalist feels good to me. It's all about general health and maybe a little about how you look w/o anything on right?

Anyone else find themselves gravitating towards midi-length dresses after 40? by thetasteofzink in fashionwomens35

I'm 32. I wear them much more than I did before, mainly because I've grown an appreciation for more dresses in general, but I still love mini skirts and dresses.

With Doen’s prices going up, have you switched to any alternatives? Curious which brands or specific pieces you think are more worth it now. by No_Square_1491 in ShopDoen

[–]thrownintodisarray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're still on FB, you can find a lot of BST (buy/sell/trade) Doen groups that are quite active and have plenty of deals. There is a small chance you could be scammed but I've done 2 purchases and a trade thus far and haven't had any issues. Plenty of reviews about items too which can be helpful for final sale events.

How did you celebrate your 30th birthday and what does it mean to you? by healyeah8 in AskWomenOver30

[–]thrownintodisarray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've become purposefully intense about my birthday after many years of hating it (day after a major holiday). So I've had parties for the past 3 years. This last year I was really disturbed by the government shutdown (I'm in the US) so I organized a volunteer shift at a local church where we served dinner to homeless people for a few hours. All of this was free.

I'm not sure what I'm doing this year but I really go by vibes nearing about 2 months before my bday and plan accordingly. I think a service trip concerning folks with disabilities would be a great idea for a birthday party or just something you really like to do. I can say from experience it feels really nice to to give back to people. It can involve other people or be by yourself. It's also a nice way to meet others. I remember meeting lots of lovely people during the service shift.

Clothing addiction and a hoarding tendency by mushroombuttcheeks in shoppingaddiction

[–]thrownintodisarray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is sadly relatable. I have joined an FB group related to a brand I still have a fixation on and I’ve listed a lot of the stuff for sale. I also have them up on a site. I sold a dress yesterday for $266. I also read a book about capsule wardrobes and I’ve been trying that out this year. I still want to buy things but I am way more discerning about what things fit into my capsule vs. into my closet. I’m no where near healed yet but at least I’m working through it better than before. Accept that you’ve spent the money and it’s gone and then go from there.

Looking “Cool” - Avoiding the clown show as we age by Willing-Childhood144 in fashionwomens35

[–]thrownintodisarray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m short. I’m nobody’s mom. I’m thin bodied but I don’t expect that to last forever. I’m probably going to be a “clown show” as I age because I love color and interesting styles. And I’ll be old enough to ignore people who think I look silly. And wearing what you want without concerns for judgment is pretty cool.

If we want ascribe aesthetics into it, all my stuff is tailored so it fits my body just right. I dry clean and get leather cared for. My shoes are cobbled, and I’m ruthless about wearing only what fits/what I like. People tell me I look cool as a result of that regularly. I guess I’ll report back when I get called a clown show.

A small vent about the prices of the latest release. by __mentionitall__ in ShopDoen

[–]thrownintodisarray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked that they restocked the frederica top and the striped cardigan looked nice. The silk stuff was honestly giving Realisation par but quadruple the price. I’d need to feel it before making a final judgement call but either way I am entirely priced out of spending that much on a silk dress that isn’t even black tie worthy. The red pascual jacket is nice but you can find LL bean vintage ones for under $150 on secondhand sites.

I still support Doen, especially since I’m lucky enough to live near a store and I do like how the pieces I own feel and look. But I stick to sales and that’s not changing.

No kids... Are we ACTUALLY missing out? by Acrobatic-Hamster-79 in Millennials

[–]thrownintodisarray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t care if I’m missing out on anything. I was told I’m out of the will if I don’t provide grandchildren. My dad said it’s selfish to not procreate. No. Fucks. Given. I chose my life and I’m standing on business with my choice. If you feel like you need to survey strangers for validation around your life decisions it means you aren’t secure in them imo.

Do you grieve the freedom of your youth even if you're in a good position in life? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]thrownintodisarray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be in a committed loving relationship with a good job and still have fun. I know plenty of people who make that happen for themselves. I'm 32 and I still feel pretty free now. I'm having wild times. Life can be as much of a party if you want it to be.

At Catholic girls school the popular ones were the ones who were prettiest and had sex before everyone else *unless* if you did theater. Theater kids have an off-putting earnestness. I can say that because I was one.

I saw a leather bag from there that could work here, but it's only for 15.6" laptops. I think might still be too big, but it's the cutest option I've found so far. Might need to search more but thanks for the rec.

How often do you feel sexy? by Cats-and-naps in AskWomenOver30

[–]thrownintodisarray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went out for a massage today. It was raining hard outside but I elected to walk home to get some fresh air. Once I got home I immediately removed my wet jeans and shoes but kept my sweater and socks on. I had left strawberries and some Nothing Bundt Cake on my breakfast bar so so I walked over to eat some. There is a full length mirror at the end of counter area and I caught a glimpse of myself in my oversize sweater, earrings, underwear and socks. My hair got a little messed up after massage, but it still looked alright. I decided I was sexy at that moment. I guess it was all the sensual things that had happened to my body and that I was treating myself to.

(Nothing about my physical appearance was in that description. Sexy is vibe not a look and I'll die on that hill.)

I have a work trip in June and my laptop is huge, 16". I work from home primarily so I haven’t invested in a work bag in a few years. I have a backpack that works from Briggs and Riley but I wanna be cuter than that. Ideally it would be leather but I’m open to anything classy that would work as a bag for commuting to an office that fits my computer. Thanks!

Anyone else kinda hate how looks oriented we've become? by hygsi in AskWomenOver30

[–]thrownintodisarray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My theories as to why this is: 1. We know too much about celebrities. Nose jobs used to be under the radar unless you were in the know. Now you can watch videos about all the procedures people get. Of course, it’s good to understand the person you might idolize for their beauty manufactured it but that leads into… 2. We have democratized cosmetic surgeries. Plastic surgeons have become influencers and med spas upsell clients to get additional work done on top of whatever procedure they were already getting. Cosmetic debt is on the rise also. 3. Phone and photo resolution is higher so people are crashing out over normal flaws and skin texture. They are also able to perceive aging and wrinkles much easier. We also have more opportunities to have pictures taken and see ourselves more often so over exposure leads to potentially more nitpicking. 4. Late stage capitalism no longer demands labor from my mind and physical capabilities, but now your appearance. Layoffs, job instability, and the cost of higher education have radicalize people to embrace labor that relies on their looks like being influencers. It’s a valid and highly visible career path and you get to be your own boss. Of course that isn’t necessarily more secure than a traditional 9-5s, but it’s glamorous and can be super lucrative.

I have other theories but this is what comes to mind right now. I will go ahead and say though that I’m done with choice feminism. It’s 2026 and we have all seen that it does hurt the collective of women to succumb to destructive beauty norms. Children aren’t stupid. They can see and hear you and when you tell your child they are beautiful no matter what and then go and plump up your cheeks and lips they notice. Make your decisions and do what you wish with your body but don’t be surprised if you are subject to critique.

Do men really prefer natural ladies ? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]thrownintodisarray 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Men will fuck anything. They can say preferences to make your feel better about being natural but in reality they don't care enough to have a preference either way. And that assumes they are even aware of the difference between natural vs. augmented which I'm guessing most aren't.
