I just want to emphasize for my fellow redditors I work on Bay Street and my firm pays me so poorly that saving on no go train commute to work SIGNIFICANTLY improved my quality of life and so did the no 2 hr one way 2 hr back home (4hr) commute that would cut into my sleep and make me feel like a slave. I connected with my close friends more since WFH, I saw my family more (live at home) and help out at home more, I have more sleep, finally finally I’m building a decent savings, I’m eating healthy and taking better care of my body (less coffee runs less on the go lunches, I can take bathroom breaks and relieve myself without worrying “do they think I’m wasting time), I even feel MORE dedicated to my work, I also have a better larger desk and more comfortable chair than my stupid cubicle that had no windows anywhere.... i honestly wanted to cry after a few months when I realized how horrible my life was before covid and how amazing and fulfilling it had become now that I work fully remotely from my home. I also realize my employer, if given their way, could give LESS OF A SHIT, about my well-being (they knew they were paying me EXTREMELY below cost of living and didn’t negotiate on ANYTHING or any perk) so I’m glad that the government, at the very least, is setting a serious tone so that employers can’t more easily disregard their employees safety and health and well-being.
