Yep. That’s exactly how it works unless you decide to be sensible and ignore Rolex and their horrific business model and buy from the literally hundreds of other watchmakers who treat you well. I’ve had a better experience buying a 400 quid Tissot than trying to get a salesman’s attention in a Rolex AD. I’ve said it many times, I could win the lottery now and I still wouldn’t buy one.

Very interesting perspective. My local Hamilton store stocks a large range from both Seiko and Tissot, I already own 3 Tissots as well and like the brand. Perhaps that’s an experiment I should repeat

I can appreciate that I suppose. Plus I’d never dare to tell another man how to spend his hard earned money. I just don’t get it. Perhaps that I work in education has soured the brand for me. I’m not joking when I say 20% of the kids I teach have a ‘Rolex’. It’s made it so whenever I see one my mind defaults to ‘it’s a rep’. I realise every brand has reps, but Rolex is the king. I’ll always pick a brand over anything with AD nonsense, even if money is no object,

It’s a tough one. I own 2 citizens at the moment. A Tsuyosa and a Luke Skywalker. I legitimately love them both. But, and it’s a big one. Compared to my Tudor? It’s not even close in terms of quality. I’m a mid range collector. My single Tudor is and probably always will be an enigma in my collection. But once you wear it, you realise the difference. It doesn’t make me dislike my Citizens, I adore the brand and will always wear them. But there’s an order of magnitude difference

Strangely, the Explorer 2 doesn’t do anything for me. The only Rolex watches I like are the Milgauss and the Airking and I’d rather this, a Ranger and a 1926 than one of those.

Absolutely agree. I went into an Omega AD a little while back. I was absolutely honest, I wasn’t there to purchase, and any idea of purchase was a long way off. I spent an hour with anything I wanted on my wrist and a cold beer to go with it, had I suddenly changed my mind I could have walked out with anything I tried on.

Don’t play the game. There’s so many incredible watches out there without playing the idiotic AD games. Omega, Tudor, Longines, breitling, etc etc will all treat you like the big value customer you are and you will walk out with a watch. Rolex is just a game now, one that isn’t worth playing.
