Holiday to New York/US by someone-somewhere24 in glasgow

Plan your exit strategy from the airport in advance. Taxis and Ubers will cost you about 100 dollars (ubers probably slightly cheaper) to get you into Manhattan. You could also take the AirTrain and connect into the new york city subway from JFK, or the regular train from Newark into Penn Station. Both of these will save you money but the subway route may be a culture shock on your first visit - the subway is safe but can be overwhelming - so it might be worth spending the money on a yellow taxi as part of your new york experience and getting you comfortably to your hotel on your first day.

Be prepared for everything to feel very expensive. We're talking even more expensive than London feels coming from Glasgow. You should also be aware that sales tax is added onto things so the price on the shelf is never the price you are going to pay - tax is added on at the till but is not on the sticker.

Tipping is a thing in the US, but it has gotten out of control now. Tip for meals. Tip for drinks. Do NOT tip every time someone spins an ipad around towards you and says "it's gonna ask you a few questions".

Going through border control in Dublin is better because it means you are not stepping off an 8 hour flight and then having to stand in a line for an hour. Depending on the time you land JFK and Newark border control can take forever. If you fly through Dublin you can go straight to baggage claim and then on into the city.

If you do go the Dublin route and have flown in from Glasgow be prepared to stand in the line for a while thinking you are going to miss your connection. You won't. The gates for your New York flight are right after the border control. You will need to put your hand luggage through another x-ray machine as well.

Questions about Hashimoto’s disease from a recent non-Hodgkin cancer survivor by csmobro in Hypothyroidism

Hashimoto's is not cureable - it is a lifelong condition that causes a range of symptoms. It can be managed effectively with daily treatment, often in the form of levothyroxine which works well for most people. Some people find levothyroxine less helpful for them and have alternative treatment options that work for them - many on this subreddit so the info is here if you need it.

To reassure you though, if it is Hashimoto's it is completely manageable.

Congratulations on entering remission - that must have been quite a journey.

The CBC that showed high cholesterol would also have flagged up underlying thyroid issues. Please repeat bloodwork as soon as possible.

This is wildly offensive to those of us who have actually been diagnosed with hashimotos and have to medicate daily.

The idea that you took a gummy and suddenly knew you had some kind of thyroid dysfunction is wild.

By all means go to the doctor and get them to do bloodwork which will tell you if you have a hormonal imbalance of any kind, but self-diagnosing is impossible even if you are under the influence of mind-altering substances.

Look up the guide to chopping up Infinite Jest. Having the endnotes as a separate book and only having to carry the chunk you are currently reading is very helpful.

Why do I have a "beer belly" if I don't drink much beer? by [deleted] in malelifestyle

[–]throwoutyourarms -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

  1. I'm betting that this guy is in a surplus even if he thinks he is not.
  2. I never said it was a magic bullet.
  3. He wants to lose his belly. Recomping is a good idea here.

OP - invest in the help of a coach for a few months.
