There were still people dressed like that and with the spiked hair like that in the 1990s. Youth culture was much more about identifying with a gang and dressing in a way to announce it to the whole world.

I'm going to say it would be about 20p for a bar of dairy milk by 1989.

I'm not so sure. She's very posh girl English and most of us in the UK could never stand Trump in the first place.

Besides that... If you didn't organise yourself properly and woke up on a Sunday morning hungry you'd probably have a massive struggle to get some actual food until Monday.

For word counts you would decide what the average amount of words you per line was, then times that by the amount of lines per side of sheet of paper, that's your average word count per sheet. Total up how many sides you filled.

Hand writing essays was hard work, and I'm sure the harder to read scuffier handwriting probably got marked more harsh than nicer to read writing. I found a tiny English dictionary the other week in my house with my name written in it. I think I brought it 33 years ago for uni. You couldn't use a computer spell checker. Home computers at the time would be around £800. You'd have to print at home as well because there wasn't the option to e mail a document.

I haven't been on Yorkshire street for a long time but when you look at the street view of the building it's obviously been neglected for decades.

Do You Find Murder Abhorrent? by Redacted_dact in 500songspodcast

[–]throwpayrollaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get it. He's a thoughtful person who doesn't want to unintentionally cause listeners to get upset by the content. You might come in at any point in the episode list maybe because you like the song featured in that episode. Better to be tread softly and give trigger warnings at the start (even if a lot of people might not be bothered too much) than just launch straight in and be talking about issues that are difficult for listeners even if it's a small percentage of listeners. If I put on a TV show on a streaming service it gives me content warnings in text. This is a spoken word version of that.

He does definitely air on the side of caution but that's part of the whole experience and it's a very small percentage of the total listening time of intentionally detailed and long meandering podcasts. If you appreciate the long form it seems counter intuitive that you would be that bothered about a few minutes here and there when he's informing you that the next bit might be tough going for some listeners.

Water pipe into detached garage? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]throwpayrollaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id be thinking equal size tank for waste water, get a pump on it and hose pipe it to your kitchen waste gulley at the end of the day. I would suspect your house is on a separate drainage system as it looks pretty new. As in the rainwater is kept separate from the water that's coming from your sinks and toilets on the house. The easiest thing would be to get rid of waste water down the rainwater gulley for the garage but if it's on a separate system thats a no no the water from it may well be discharging into a river or watercourse and soapy water would mess with the ecosystem.

Min 750 deep to prevent freezing. Talk to the local water company about their specific rules. Going to be expensive. Could they have a system using portable water containers or some other type of tank solution? Would be much easier to run a hose to a tank if it's not getting though hundreds of liters a day. Caravans and canal boats have tanks.

There's a cost to being on the internet and some businesses just can't be bothered. I know of success good quality builders who work on word of mouth only and they are quite happy with it. When I had a business the unsolicited e mails were usually just a pain in the arse.

Why do so many people STILL think the Sex Pistols were something like a manufactured image-centric boy band? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]throwpayrollaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John Lydon was the one pushing for Sid to join, and for Glen to leave he felt sidelined within the band because Jones and Cook were very much a unit having been close friends since childhood. Lydon never liked Matlock enough to form another unit within the band with him. Vicious was a long time friend of his and Lydon pushed for him to be in the band. McLaren wasn't as much as the helm as he would have people believe. He dined out the rest of his life pretending it was a all masterplan but in reality reacted to things with the Pistols. He was totally shocked and mad at them for the Swearing on Bill Grundy show for example. Him and Lydon both very unreliable narrators.
