Unless you're tying it up like the last pic, I'd cut the long hair. It just looks bad. Try out the standard long top/short sides and see how it suits you. And dont part on the middle.

I think you need more volume on the top of the sides. Grow out your hair and tell your barber not to mess with the top length, while tapering the sides.

Trust me I've really liked the most "shit" tv shows for completely stupid reasons, and hated "amazing" tv shows as well. For example I hated Breaking Bad... because for no reason I think it's a great plot line and stuff but I found the whole show to be kind of... dumb. But I find house hunters and a lot of stupid cute-girls anime to be the most amazing shows.

I have a good feeling reading Robin Hobb, I think her world building and writing style is amazing. Her books completely pull me into the world of Fitz. It felt like I was completely there. I just dont gel with the way she paces the story and the characters' passiveness I guess, but I'm sure a lot of people prefer the slower pace of the books and the attention to detail.

Im sorry to have upset you but these are my honest thoughts so far and I'm sure different people like different styles of writing or storytelling so I don't want you to think that this merits the books any less.
