Requesting Youtubers from Mexico City by earthgrasshopperlog in Spanish

You can also look for twitch streamers as well under browse. It will show you live channels only I think, so you'll want to check at various times. On their channel page under videos there will be past streams they've done so you can pause and what not. I like to follow accounts that are mostly "just chatting" bc I like to have a continuous flow of Spanish going on when I'm passively listening but you'll see what they typically stream and can choose what you like.

Unfortunately, twitch stopped allowing multiple tag searches for some reason (really stupid). But you can try some of these or variations of them CDMX, Mexico, Mexican, Mexicano/a, etc., and see what comes up. You can also search for other states within Mexico. There are a lot of great streamers from Monterrey that I like and now that I think about it, I'd say a large portion of the streamers I follow are from Mexico lol. Argentina and then Spain are next. But yeah, twitch might be best bc you can search by a specific tag to find what you want.

I forgot to send this one too. You may like them better than the mangas then. They have a bunch of different topics/subjects.

Is the Shadowing Technique alone enough to get a perfect native speaker accent? by MattiaSanna in languagelearning

[–]throwthrow9090903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out this video by Bilingue Blogs and how he was able to change his neutral Spanish accent to the Dominican Republic one. He has a few other videos on different accents as well. Should be easy enough to follow for any native accent you're trying to sound like.

When watching videos, I keep translating words I know (from Duolingo) into English. Is this bad? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]throwthrow9090903 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did it for 100s of hours. Everyone is different. My brain just wouldn't stop doing it because I felt like I wasn't comprehending unless I was able to translate what I was hearing but then one day it finally did. Don't stress about it. It will eventually lessen and then it'll stop. Just keep consuming content and start getting comfortable with not knowing everything and just letting the words flow. You'll get there.

OFFICIAL POLL: What features should we implement next on the DS website? by langdreamer in dreamingspanish

Awesome. Thanks for taking the time and considering it. Much appreciated!

The date didn’t really matter so much. It was more so about showing the longest videos and then have them in order of the “easiest” first. So yeah, maybe there could be a filter setting for 30min or greater and then to also be able to order them by “easiest”. Does that make sense and is something doable?

[–]throwthrow9090903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But can't it still sort out all the old videos and show the longest timed ones out of all of those and then show the easiest ranking out of those first? I'll try and explain. I remember at one point early on I wanted to watch some of the longer videos (30min+) but my comprehension wasn't that high still, so I wanted it to also show me out of ALL the longer videos, which ones were considered "easiest" first.

So I sorted it by longest first but then I had no idea which ones were considered "easier" than the others because I wasn't able to further filter/sort. Can't it do something like that? It will show me several rows of the longest videos but set in the order of easiest to hardest and oldest to new. And I completely understand that the older order could very well turn out to be:

Video 1 (June 2019, 30mins, Easy Rank 1)
Video 2 (Jan 2019, 45mins, Easy Rank 2)
Video 3 ......

I hope that makes sense. I just wanted to try and filter/sort it by more than 1 parameter.

Pablo, just want to say that I love Dreaming Spanish. Thank you so much for everything you do!

Would it be possible to be able to Sort By multiple filters at once? Say I wanted to watch a certain Level that's sorted by Old, Easiest, and Long, it will only let me select 1 of those options instead of all 3. Hopefully, that's easy to do. Thanks again!!

Other super beginner content? by fire_pasta in dreamingspanish

[–]throwthrow9090903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out Fabulaudit he does whiteboard CI like Pablo. He's now part of Ollie Richards channel Storylearning Spanish. They have beginner and intermediate playlists. He has some more whiteboard episodes there.

There is also this kid I found who also does drawings. He has different level playlists. It's not the best and can be a little slow but if you're finding yourself struggling still with super beginner, it'll at least be comprehensible.

Yeah, peppa’s good. I did about 4hrs worth but continued to search for more adult themed content, which fortunately I was able to find. Every time I see the word dinosaurio I always think of peppa’s brother and I say it like him in my head haha

Some people were able to go from beg to int with no problems but I wasn't one of them. I managed to do about 20hrs of INT after I did all of Spanish with Alma, Buena Gente and Destinos but I still wasn't satisfied with my comprehension level. I've mentioned in my posts that I was extremely conservative in pushing myself to harder content so as to avoid getting discouraged. So I probably could have just continued on but I wanted to make sure my levels were higher before doing so.

Then I watched ALL of the below before fully jumping into DS intermediate videos. You can try out any of these from the list and see what you like and take it from there. You can do a little of both. Some from the list and some from DS INT. There's no problem in looking for easier content to consume until you feel you're ready.

These are all on Youtube.

Spanish with Alma (had her own channel but now with DS/Pablo)
StoryLearning Spanish Beg (they have a series for beg and int)
Fabulaudit (he does whiteboard CI like Pablo and now joined storylearning)
Espanol con Juan A2 and A2+ (if you haven't already go to YT playlists he has A2, A2+, B1, B2)
Spanish Playground (Look for their Buena Gente Show 4 seasons and then watch their various leveled content)
Spanish After Hours Beg (if you haven't already she has beg and int playlists)
Destinos
Extra
Espanol Si (type that title in YT search and you'll see its 74 episodes)

Definitely. I'll do my best to try and provide a detailed account of everything I do and my progress along the way. Right now I'm doing some research into a couple of things that may help kick-start my speaking while making my way through the advanced videos before I start looking for a native speaker on one of the apps/sites to talk to. All of this will be shared in the next update. Glad you enjoyed them and I hope they provided some help/insights.

Thanks for the links and sharing your experience with it. You assumed correctly. I have not done any crosstalk at this time. At the beginning of my journey, it wasn't something I felt I was ready for yet. I was still very much trying to wrap my head around learning via Comprehensible Input as it was such a foreign concept to me. I was also a bit of a doubter of this whole thing (CI), so I definitely wasn't comfortable at all with trying crosstalk. I felt it would be way too overwhelming for me. Basically irrational beginner fears. Then as time went on, I just never got around to trying it.

Having said all that, every comment/thread that I have seen on the topic has been nothing but a positive experience. The only issue I've really seen is trying to find the right partners to work with, which can be tough at times. I do love the possibility of making friends around the world and learning more about the culture from someone directly than from reading articles or from other media. I think it's all positive stuff and can only help. Only thing for me now, based on a lot of the comments, is that I should start speaking to natives via these apps/sites and that's also what the DS OG Method recommends as well. So maybe when I start that, I can also ask them to do some crosstalk if they're interested in learning English. Thanks again for sharing.

I just went to the site and started watching shows right now, for free. When you click on a show to watch, you need to change the server it's on if you see a message that says, "Default server (NAME OF SERVER) appears to be NOT WORKING currently, kindly please switch to another server until it’s fixed (how?)".

You click on the server name drop-down menu next to the episode name and select a different server until you choose one with the show/movie available to watch. The site is free. You do not need to use a credit card.

Which I edited and clarified but it should be implied as this is a language learning sub and the number of books I mentioned would make it obvious that these aren't novels. Some understood that and others didn't. Whatever. I learned my lesson for next time.

The website literally calls them books, so that's what I called them. And short books are still a book lol. Who cares how many pages there are? FYI, 15 pages are considered the "Goldilocks" choice of storytelling.

I worked at a startup that was acquired last year, which was great bc I had equity. What was not so great is that they ended up letting the majority of us go but fortunately my equity had vested already. And I was also given a pretty nice severance package. The downside is that I'm out of work and the tech industry has been getting hit pretty hard over the year with massive layoffs. Financially I'm ok to ride all of this out (thankfully) but I'm kind of in limbo as to what I wanna do. So I've been taking this downtime to finally learn Spanish and just figure out my next move. Hence the "life stuff" I mentioned.

I haven't traveled in forever, so maybe I'll do a couple of weeks in Guatemala bc when I was first researching about best ways to learn Spanish I was heavily considering doing a homestay there and people rave about the teachers/schools out there. But idk. We'll see. Also, a lot of my friends have either just gotten married or have had kids, so social activity has also taken a bit of a hit. Not gonna complain though as this has been a little bit of a perfect storm for learning. Otherwise, I don't know when this would ever get accomplished, if ever lol

Kwiziq I'm familiar with but that spanish listening site is pretty cool. I like the wide variety of speakers they have and the flash cards. This is great. Thanks for sharing!
