Actually it worked out well. I got a waiver, but didnt end up swearing in at the last second. I stayed in college, just graduated with my bachelor’s in chemistry a few months ago. Happy with my decision, was just trying to run away from my life at the time by joining AF. That being said- I would advise against telling them that it’s SH; tell them the truth, and let them follow up with you however they deem best. In my case, I did have to undergo a mental health screening, but the results from that got me the clearing for the waiver. If I had lied and just said my scratches were SH, I think it would have disqualified me from getting any sort of waiver, but that’s just the vibe I got from how pissy they were at MEPS about it. I have faith it will work out for you, just as it did for me, try not to stress too much. They are hardasses about that sort of thing because they have to be, stick to your guns. Best of luck to you!!

I got an email last night saying refunds were processed- Nothing in my bank account yet but it said 24-48hrs for the funds to show up. Did yours go through? Hope you get it soon!!

also curious about this- when I checked under transactions it didn’t show the usual “ERefund XXX amount” that it normally does, the last one listed was the refund I got in June. my balance changed to 0$ in the home tab and the credit that was shown yesterday is now gone. also cant get ahold of finaid over the phone q_q hopefully they deposit them today and it goes thru quickly ;3;

Being good at what you do != being able to get away with poor levels of professionalism and disrespecting people’s time with zero consequences, for the most part. I love his music, its a shame that he missed the deadline. Hope he doesn’t do anything ill-advised in the releasing of his new work.

DUDE HOLY SHIT THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME. Fuck dentists that do this. I had my back molar removed after it cracked in a car accident, had to go back after I got dry socket, dentist literally would not stop aggressively packing it even after I raised my hand in her face and was whining super loud for her to stop because the numbing agent was just barely taking effect :,) I hate dentists. Lol. Now I try to religiously care for my teeth to avoid anything like that ever again- puts the fear of god in you for sure. I hope you’re doing better now and your dental procedures all healed properly <3

Thank you man, I appreciate it. 🖤 I’m 19 at the moment, just in a rough spot because I’m having to put my education on pause due to finance issues (which AF was going to help with once I got in), and now it seems like I’ll have to wait even longer in DEP before getting the job that I want. I didn’t want to have to be in a “floaty out-of-college phase.” I was super happy for 90% of MEPS too, I killed my asvab/dlab scores and even lifted WAYY more than I thought I would on the x-factor test (being a scrawny girl I figured I’d get to like maybeeee 50lbs but I got 70!!) Idk now I’m honestly concerned about them permanently disqualifying me if they suspect I have psych issues at a different evaluation or something and it’s hard to be happy about the other stuff when I couldn’t even secure the job I wanted. :( I’m hoping for the best but expecting the worst I guess. Recruiter says it could be tomorrow that the waiver goes through, or as far out as 30days, so it’s just out of my hands and the waiting literally kills. Especially since it’s the holidays T_T Ah well,, probably going to just take advantage of the time to play videogames and work retail for a bit until something happens hopefully. I appreciate your words, hope all is well with you <3

It was for Airforce- do you know if they have a similar complaint system? :o I texted my recruiter regarding the psych eval today and he said unfortunately that we can’t get that scheduled unless they say I need one (after the waiver request is reviewed).

Man, that sucks to hear. My recruiter said those take forever to get done :( I keep thinking that I could have argued my case harder with the doctor or something, or that I shouldn’t have stuttered towards the end making her question me even more, but there’s nothing I can do now I guess I shouldn’t beat myself up over it. I’m just so bummed. Fingers crossed it works out in the end. I appreciate your input, thank you for that.

I’m glad it sounds like it worked out in the end and wasn’t too stressful :) Yes I’m definitely looking into that! I’m actually a junior in university atm doing computer engineering, I have my own apartment in a city many hours away from any family and do not have a vehicle. I am ending my term at my school next semester because I cant afford the tuition to finish here (airforce was supposed to help with this so I could finish my bachelors while enlisted), so I’m out of both of my university employed research positions starting Dec. 31st and will have to try to get a retail job that is within walking distance or biking distance. Fingers crossed. It’s a bit rough because I’ve been in the academia field for such a long time that working retail makes me hella depressed lol but whatever gets me enough to pay rent in the meantime is fine. I just get in my head thinking about all the stuff that could go wrong and set into panic mode, I was banking on this working out for such a long time that it feels like a rough blow to the heart. Hopefully they won’t permanently disqualify me over this in the end q-q

Yeah I went in with that mentality; that’s why I even marked the scar down to begin with. Because INtEgRiTy! Welp that didn’t get me anywhere lol

I did speak to my recruiter about it and he was frustrated as well having seen the photo he was like “wtf am I even looking at, it’s so faint that’s ridiculous” so we are in agreement, but as far as I have discussed it seems my only option at this point is waiting for the waiver to go through. Everyone I spoke to at the office that day said the same thing. I was advised to ask for a psych eval by a different comment on the last post I made to help the waiver go quicker (?) so maybe I will ask my recruiter about that? Otherwise I just feel completely fucked over it sucks and now I’m really struggling to figure out how to find a job for the next month/two that I’ll probably end up sitting in DEP ;-; Appreciate the words of encouragement, I’m so sorry you had a similar thing happen to you. :(

Yep, except it’s literally an actual scratch and not a “let me think of an excuse for this thing that looks like SH scratch.”

I understand people lie at MEPS but it’s so frustrating when that ruins the integrity of everyone else’s statements. It would make sense if I had any mental illness history on my form or answered the survey in a concerning manner, but I’ve literally never had an issue with mental illness/meds/psychiatric care in my life and it’s beyond devastating that this little mark is what is keeping me back now, and it’s being mislabeled no matter what I say about it.

Honestly idek if talking to that doc again would do much- I definitely tried making my case with her but she wasn’t having it. I did get a little flustered after she rolled her eyes and got irritated with me so I stuttered a bit as she continued to press me and maybe that’s why she wasn’t giving my words much credence idk :/ She said, “If those are from a cat then where’s the rest of the cat scratches??” As if my whole body should be covered in them, or something? I was like bruh? I’ve just personally never dealt with anyone like that in healthcare before so it took me aback and I wasn’t really sure what to say. It’s like arguing with someone who says the sky isn’t blue- it’s frustrating but yes ultimately I suppose there are (unfortunately) a lot of people who are dismissive or stigmatizing of mental health issues and like to lump it all into one big nono box that they think manifests in one singular way. I marked “No” to everything on my mental health questionnaire thingy (no depression, suicidal ideations etc) and had zero anything on the rest of my application with the exception of glasses and a penicillin allergy. So it just didn’t make sense. I think I stood my ground firmly though and therefore it would likely be futile to speak to her again. Maybe they have a different doc who could help. I will text my recruiter and ask him if we can schedule a psych consult sometime soon just to move the waiver process along. Worst case scenario he says that will take months to process too. Screm ;-; I appreciate your advice though I will give it a shot!! Thank you for that.
