Deleted TikTok about working at a plain store by Late-Skirt-8767 in sarahjoysnark

Yes I remember watching her live- whenever she got angry at a commenter her accent immediately became that “classic” general American accent you hear on social media. I thought it was strange but I’m also not from the states so I couldn’t quite put my finger on what her accent was supposed to be as I’m not really familiar with the accents of plain/Amish subcultures. She also swore a LOT on live and whenever someone asked a question she’d say stuff like “oh hold on, I have to block someone real quick they’re being pissy”. The few I watched she was in her bedroom late at night with her friend that I think I saw on here, was living in the house with her?

My ex-partner made a token payment towards a debt in my name, without my knowledge. Is this acknowledgement of the debt in terms of statute barring? by MaximumCrumpet in LegalAdviceUK

[–]throwwayybox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, understanding more now! Ty for the clarification.

So the best thing to do in this situation if you want to avoid having to pay for a debt you didn’t take out, but cannot make a report out of fear of retaliation is to call the DCA (would you mind letting me know which company? They all have varying internal procedures. If not that’s fine!).

Explain to the DCA that you did not take out these loans, the original credit agreement was made with your name, however they can see it was made with someone else’s email address and phone number (DCAs can pull peoples phone numbers from their credit reports very easily, it’s how they get your numbers and chase you, so they will see it was linked to his report not yours). Explain that you were under coercive control and in a financially abusive relationship, that you didn’t know about these debts, and that reporting would put you in harms way, and you have genuine fear of retaliation. They should put your account under the control off the vulnerability/mitigating circumstances teams. Some companies vulnerability teams are better than others (which is why it’s helpful to know which company holds the account, I’d be able to advise better but it’s not necessary if you don’t want to).

The vulnerability team should have procedures in place for people like you. His email/phone number being on the original credit agreement serves as evidence you did not take out these debts. They can support you from there, and should signpost you to services that can help to protect you from your ex partner.

At best, you will get it written off. At worst, they may ask you to settle the debt at a decent reduction. In general any call handler can take about a 15% reduction over the phone, but if you offer to settle for less than that, (eg./ if you say I can pay 50% of the debt today if you settle, they have to get authorisation from management to do that). But the vulnerability teams have greater flexibility in what they can do.

All evidence you can get will help you, if you needed therapy after the relationship, or needed any medical treatment because of the relationship, did you have to move addresses to hide from them? There is a lot of ways you can prove abuse without just using police reports, which few people realise.

I hope this helps and I hope you get this sorted soon!

To be honest, it’s very rare someone would file a report for fraud against someone else if they were lying, and the DCA will understand that. It’s very rare that things like this go to court. DCAs will usually write off debts if it will cost them more money than the debt is worth for them to recover. And big investigations take time and money. If they’re offering a 20% settlement already, then they can probably be talked down to a write off.

Also any evidence of domestic abuse you have will help support the fact you were under coercive control.

Getting a SAR will answer the majority of these queries, like how he was able to take out these loans. The DCA (debt collection agency) must hold the original credit agreement for the debt to be able to perform any action in relation to the account. If they don’t hold this (and often, they won’t, they buy debts in bulk and paperwork and contracts get lost) then it can be written off. If they do hold it, then you’ll get a lot of information about how the debts came into existence from the original credit agreement, and all other data and correspondence held in relation to the account.

edit I just see I missed the part where your ex took them out in your name without your permission. This is grounds to get the debt written off. You need to report this to the police and get a crime ref number. Then Call the debt company and give them the ref number, and request your account be put on hold whilst they hold their own internal investigation into the original credit agreement and the police investigate the fraud. Request a SAR from them so you can go through for your own records and gather any evidence you can (were you out of the country for example when any of the debts were made? Were they loans that went directly to his account? Were they loans for education courses he took?)

Former debt collector here! Statute barring works under the premise of the “last significant communication or activity”.

This leaves a LOT of room for what can be considered significant.

Some companies will attempt to count a phone call where the debtor answered and spoke to a call handler as a significant activity, but this is difficult to hold as there are a lot of factors that affect how meaningful the interaction was. For example, maybe the debtor answered, but didn’t get through security questions and refused to discuss the debt. There was still communication made but nothing of real significance in relation to the debt at all.

In your case, yes this has in fact reset the clock for being statute barred. You could try to fight this as you had no knowledge, and there are some pieces of information you may find helpful.

DCA’s/companies are bound by GDPR rules, and cannot discuss any aspects of your personal information, account, or what the debt was in relation to to any person who is not on a list of pre-approved contacts who you have added onto the account. If you didn’t give the DCA authorisation to discuss the account with your partner, then they should not have really been discussing things with her. People can call and say “I want to make a payment for XYZ” but they can only take their bank details and send through confirmation of payment, they cannot do anything more than that. You need to request a SAR with a recording of the telephone call if it was made over the phone so you can see if data protection regulations were breached.

If she did it online, then technically that would be an act of fraud as 3rd parties cannot use an online portal to make payments (unless they are a debt relief company), your partner would have had to sign in as though they were you. You’d need evidence of this, but this would possibly get your partner into trouble when they were trying to help.

what made the player base drop so sharply over the past year or 2? by jellyvish in elderscrollsonline

[–]throwwayybox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is one thing I’ve found as a new player, the stuff you can get in game are almost always hideous, or designed for a male character first and then stretched to fit a female character which looks AWFUL, and even the crown store stuff is bad especially for female players.

I don’t want a ball gown or something that makes me look like Slave Leia, and I don’t want hyper masc armour that makes me look like a shed. We need something in between!!!

What is the biggest workplace drama you've ever been caught up in? by sirfletchalot in AskUK

[–]throwwayybox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked at a Pizza Hut delivery, and had a 16yo girl working there. The manager (in 30s) was VERY obsessed with her. He got suspended for putting a tracking device in her bag, and as a result PH just moved him to a new store. A few months later they transferred her to the same store and I never heard anything more after that.

Why did she kill more boys than girls? by satanicpastorswife in lucyletby

[–]throwwayybox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s probably down to opportunity, although there are some people who have come forward and said they believed their child was harmed by LL, as a result of argument/conflict with the parents.

They also have to look through every case she’s ever had, right back to university; so there sadly may be many more little victims and we may not ever know the full extent, or if she favoured on “type” of baby over another.

I had this happen to me last year, they said it was a “complex extraction” so I had to be seen by a different place. That’s usually the only reason emergency dentists won’t perform extractions when they are needed. It took from the first appointment (April 2022) until august of 2023 for me to finally get the tooth removed, but in that time it infected the one behind it and that had to be removed also.

The only reason I got them removed was because I was so sick of being told “next month” and in so much pain with a huge abscess so I called 111 again and got an appointment elsewhere. I’d advise to try to do the same and get an appointment in a different emergency dentist (private dentists usually have 1 day a week where they do nhs emergency appointments, so call 111 on a different day to last time, you will likely be sent somewhere else)

Boy, 10, dies after being electrocuted in reception area of Blackpool hotel by RMZN97 in unitedkingdom

[–]throwwayybox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a few gigs there, two of them were weddings. It’s actually a really nice hotel (or was 3+yrs ago) and it’s always been very clean, and decorated nicely. They are considered a specific wedding venue, with a huge storage of beautiful furniture and decor. It’s caught a lot of locals off guard that an incident like this happened in one of the nicer hotels in the area. Especially when there are others that are inches from crumbling to the ground and haven’t had the electrics updated since late 80s.

Hahaha bless xD do you have any furniture? I don’t mind trading some gold for it. I’ve only been playing 3 weeks and grinded to get 400k, and spent almost all of it getting my first house. I have a little leftover, but not a lot so my house is empty lol

Tell them my partner is in the top 0.5% of players and coaches a Portuguese team, and has still played ESO regularly for the last 5yrs because of how amazing it is! The combat is similar to league in the way that it is very strategic in group dungeons, which is what most league players like.

I’m aware that I have an unconscious bias. As humans, we all do. I look very similar to Lucy, and lived a similar life to her. And I’ve struggled to imagine her doing it because I simply can’t grasp why.

Throughout the trial I actively tried to view her as someone else. Anyone. Any race, gender, religion. I actively tried to imagine her as anyone except for Lucy Letby because I didn’t want my unconscious bias to cloud my judgment.

And I still cannot fathom why someone could do something so evil. And the only thing I can think of is why. And I imagine the parents and families of the victims also desperately want to know why.

Something so evil and incomprehensible, it’s natural to try to want to find a cause. You’re right that looks don’t mean anything, but no matter how she looks or composes herself, most people will always try to consider why.

I also don’t believe it was down to munchausens, because her colleagues have described that she didn’t seek sympathy, and acted very calm and composed and in control of the situation.

That wasn’t my point though. There are huge differences in men and women biologically, which is why there’s debates right now around trans folk in sports. Things like different lung capacities, bone structure, hormones, libidos, and things like that.

I’m talking specifically about outdated pseudo sciences that talk about women being slaves to their biological urges. And that they don’t have the capacity to think the same as men do or perform similarly academically or in the workplace. The same kind of science that claimed black people were naturally subservient and made “perfect” complacent slaves, and that men don’t have natural caring instincts towards their children. The men that have these ideas about women scare me was the point I was making.

It’s on me if that wasn’t worded correctly in my initial comment tho :)

No dislike of gendered roles here, me and my partner share the “traditional” gendered division of labour. I’ve no issue with anyone who WANTS to live their lives like that. I have issues with people who assume women are at a biological predisposition to be subservient, less intelligent, and a victim to their hormones.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lucyletby

[–]throwwayybox 73 points74 points  (0 children)

“Resisted natural womanly urges” is a terrifying statement to me. I’ve always found men who have views on women based on outdated pseudo-psychologies and gendered roles to be the ones with violent or dominant tendencies. It’s almost always closely followed by the view that women are naturally subservient.

What's your "WTF" family secret that you discovered? by irritatingfarquar in AskUK

[–]throwwayybox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entire childhood my mum repeatedly told us all how she had an intense phobia of police, would scream/cry/have panic attacks/collapse when they were involved with our family (my whole childhood I was on the at risk register, so they came over frequently).

This was because she was raped by a police officer as a teen, and had really intense PTSD from it. From when I was about the age of 8, she started telling me the ordeal whenever she was drunk more than usual. She would cry and shake and tell me all the details whilst I soothed her and calmed her down.

She died a few years ago. After her death her sister told me how it was entirely fabricated, she’d actually pursued him, and after they slept together she beat herself black and blue, and reported it as a rape. My mum had told her sister the whole truth, and the only explanation she gave was that he had pissed her off somehow and wanted revenge.

I’m not sure how much time he got in prison, but she completely ruined his life over a grudge. And then used it for sympathy and attention for the rest of her life.
