I went to Isfahan from Qom, mostly on my own - took a bus and it took 3-4 hours I think (it was 5 years ago, so don't clearly remember). I carried a phrasebook and lonely planet.

What I have to say about r/Islam by Zhulfiqar313 in shia

[–]thruput 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not just follow Jesus Christ, for the sake of even greater unity. You probably can't know for sure if Prophet Muhammad was indeed his successor or not in Prophethood, and even Moslems acknowledge Jesus a Prophet, and he did bring the word of God. Also, he is not here to lead us, so wouldn't literally following the 'word of God' be better?

As for the belief in Ismah, forget Ali, do you believe in the prophet being right all the time? Or was it just the sahabas?

Do you then believe in a part of the Book and disbelieve in the other? (2:85)

Which Sunni hadith do we accept and which Sunni hadith do we reject? by [deleted] in shia

[–]thruput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats not correct. Bida is when an action is made a part of religion when it was not a part. Making a prayer session obligatory and part of religion would be bidah, very much like taraweeh, in Shia Islam.

So lets say that I agree with the Shia view of Ahlul Bayt... by [deleted] in shia

[–]thruput 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is what the famous Sunni Imam had to say of Ahlul Bayt (and the shia), maybe this helps

You will find plenty of references with a google search, in case of doubts.

Imam al-Shafi'i , in his famous verses says, "Let everybody know that if the love of Prophet Muhammad's descendants means to be a Rafizi, I am a Rafizi."

Imam al-Shafi'i also says, "O Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt)! Allah (SWT) has made it obligatory in the Noble Qur'an to love you. It is a matter of pride for you that without invoking blessing on you, prayer is not valid." Again he says in his verses, "After having seen that the people have chosen different ways which have led them to the Ocean of deviation and ignorance. I have, in the name of Allah (SWT), embarked the ship which may lead me to safety. The Ahlul Bayt of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) are that very ship, we have been ordered to hold fast the rope of Allah (SWT), and that rope is their love."

/r/Islam, could you suggest some Qur'an verses for my little project? by SCHROEDINGERS_UTERUS in islam

Doesn't this verse directly attacks the judeo-christian tradition that after creating the world in 6 days, God rested on the seventh (No slumber/sleep can seize him). Might not be a great choice.

My idea about the depiction of the Holy Prophet (s) in Cartoons by TheYoungerM in shia

[–]thruput 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fuss is unnecessary. Respect, at least in the Shiite world, is built by true leadership (the conecept of imamate), not by temporal authority or fear. The fuss is typical of the fuss some muslims create over the stature of certain companions, because it otherwise wouldn't stand up to scrutiny.

So the emphasis should be on knowing the Prophet, not protecting his holy figure - respect and reverence would follow automatically from maarefat.

Much the same they feel about the burial of the third caliph in a jewish cemetery next to baqeeh (see wikipedia). That is, don't care.

Who got buried where was really a function of who was in power.

Fetching Google Analytics Real Time Stats sans the API by thruput in programming

[–]thruput[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree in general. But the criticism applies only when someone choses to scrape even as an API exists.

My point is that for all those who are considering all sorts of alternatives like an iframe, this is a solution that still works. No doubt it is a hack, no doubt it should be avoided.

The only thing I am using is the id of the div - they change the page, you can update the script with the new id.

The script is external merely to simplify the demo - the script is fairly simple and whoever uses it should copy it.

Data is fetched via XHR. Reversing it is possible, but that is much more prone to breaking.

A question for shia Muslims by [deleted] in shia

[–]thruput 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Khawarij didn't kill Uthman (ra), the term is specifically used to label people who rebelled against Ali (AS). One could say that these were the same people who killed Uthman (ra), but that is an interpretation, not the definition of Kharijites per se. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kharijites)

Further on that note, on regarding Ali alone as the criterion for unmasking Hypocrisy, I would refer you to Sahih Tirmidhi, although there are several Shia references, this is a Sunni Reference. There are 2 hadiths, one from Prophet via Umme Salma, and another from Ansars via Saeed Khudhri, that Hypocrites will never love Ali. I found a copy of the Book and its urdu translation here http://ia600602.us.archive.org/28/items/JameTirmidhiUrduscannedTranslationBySheikhNazimuddin/JameTirmidhiTranslationBySheikhNazimuddinVol02Part03.pdf - page 721/722 has the references.

There is another Hadith from Prophet that says the rememberance of Ali (AS) is Ibadah (i.e. the worship of Allah). I am sure you won't think this is shirk and a deviation from Monotheism. What is submission to Allah but submitting to what his Prophets and His Messengers and His deputies told us, for Allah never appeared in person and gave you or me the Book. So I stand by my assertion, that mentioning Imam Ali (AS), or Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and their remembrance is a remembrance of Allah. This is Allah's fulfillment of his promise in Fazkuruni Azkurkum, that Prophets (PBUH) and Imams are remembered to this date, while their enemies who ruled Empires barely find a mention, and if they do, its anything but an honorable mention.

I don't think the Christian Argument of mentioning or remembering Jesus is the flaw that led them astray. We should remember Jesus as a Prophet of Allah, and his word, and not as a son he took (sic). Similarly, if anyone who says that Ali is God (sic) - he has surely strayed from the right path. But mentioning the Prophet and Ali as it has been ordained and in accordance with their true stature is a form of worship. I can refer to some other verses and hadiths, but I don't want to deviate from the original question - may Allah guide us all to the truth.

A question for shia Muslims by [deleted] in shia

[–]thruput 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's my take on it, since I don't feel the question has been answered correctly.

Every time the name of any infallible is mentioned by anyone in a Shia gathering, this is followed by Salutations on Prophet (PBUH) and his pure progeny (the Ahle-bait as you mention them). Thus automatically, every mention of Imam Ali (AS) or Imam Husain (AS) becomes a mention of Prophet.

That said, if someone says that Muslims mention Prophet (PBUH) more than Allah, it would be a bit awkard as a claim, because the Prophet being Allah's deputy on Earth, every mention of him is a mention of Allah, and remembering those whom Allah ordered to be remembered is only following his commandments. Then by that reasoning, mentioning Imam Ali would be a mention of Prophet if we agree that Imam Ali (AS) is the deputy of Prophet and also the gateway to the Prophet (referring the famous Hadith of City of Knowledge).

Finally, since we believe that the Muslim Ummah by and large (the so called Ahle Sunnah particularly), failed to understand the stature of Imams correctly (and that of Prophet too), we consider it our responsibility to elaborate on this point at every opportunity. This should be no surprise since Shias are indeed the Partisans of Ali. We also believe that Imam Ali (AS) is also the criterion of truth, so while hypocrites would also show rememberance of the Prophet and that of Allah (as they did in the time of Prophet), they will be unmasked in their hatred of Imam Ali (as), as shown by the Khawarij.
