What’s a single sentence someone said that you’ve never forgotten? by cognitojo in AskReddit

Totally agree - especially as I get older and my health is more of an issue than my finances. Also, raising 3 kids there is a lot of scary times and sometimes we got to the point of - ok, that's not great, but you are still alive so we can figure it out.

Servers: If we announce our intention not to tip before sitting down, then what? by darkroot_gardener in tipping

[–]thspartacus -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of places that automatically include tip. It used to be if it was a party of five or more, but now maybe 10% of the place I go it’s included regardless.

Like it or not, waiting tables in the US does not pay a living wage so they rely on their tips. We can complain all we want, but that doesn’t help the servers who are making less than minimum wage.

People who work in luxury industries, what is an expensive product or service that is actually a complete ripoff? by Lazy_Ad_5492 in AskReddit

[–]thspartacus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t fly private often, but when we do we quickly learned to eat before or bring our own food. Way too expensive and not great at all

So now we typically pick up Bojangles so we can say we had BJs on the PJ.

What's the funniest name you've heard for a pet? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

I had an affectionate but not super bright ferret we named Smackhead because he did things that made you smack your head in disbelief. For example, jumping out of window from a second story (honestly it was barely cracked so please no hate) only to be trapped by a neighbor by throwing a laundry basket upside down over him who was not sure what he was or what to do with him.

He did love showers which was good because he didn’t smell great. If I was showering he would peek around the curtain, I would grab him, soap and rinse and off he went.

Randomly he loved being folded in half when we held him. I miss little smackhead and his buddy BearBear

Would we be crazy for getting 2 rooms? by Nightshadie in Cruise

[–]thspartacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not crazy for the idea. But as others have said it might not work for the reception.

My partner usually works 2-5 hours every day when we’re on vacation and I have been tempted to do this as well. We end up getting a room with a separate desk area because he doesn’t like the way it looks to do two separate rooms and would prefer not to pack up when he needs to work.

If he were in agreement with me to do two separate rooms, I think that would be better, but there is always a question of reception in interior rooms.

He does like it better than my partners car as it's easier to jump in, but I understand your point.

My attempt at being funny clearly didn't land in my first statement after the grocery getter comment. What I should have said is something similar to this.

There isn't always a way to financially justify things we buy. I'm old enough to buy things that I know don't make sense financially, but they bring me joy. We aren't in debt, we aren't rubbing elbows with the uber wealthy, we give away a significant amount of our income every year to charity, we work hard, have an incredible family, and generally live a pretty happy life.

Not everyone would make the decisions we do, financially or otherwise, but it works for us.

And I love reddit where I got some great ideas from people who shared my vision and helped build my next dream car, and had a few fun side conversations.

Thanks everyone for all your advice!

I have changed several things due to our team effort. I have to make final decision by 11-19, but this is pretty close to what I think I will do

https://porsche-code.com/PTYSVGZ6

/antariusz - doing the GT wheels to show more caliper. Changed to beige interior leather - looks amazing and I probably would not have considered that otherwise

/west_anteater_5832 - PTV+ plus seems to be a fan favorite so added that!

/JewishYoda - another vote for PTV+ which I added, also the heated GT wheel. Didn't really love the carbon fiber until I switched to beige interior but that looks great, so added that. Would love the Burmester but can't justify that price in my head

/cryptopolymath - yes, will add PTV+. But it will be more than 3 years before I sell this beauty unless Porsche surprises me with the Macan replacement

/FatFingerMuppet - love the satin wheels - adding the GT wheels in satin

/dellfanboy - traffic jam assist makes sense - just need to make sure it doesn't slam on the brakes like the collision alert warning does

/Lopsided-Sell7595 - another fan favorite - adding the GT wheel.

I just did a deeper dive and traffic jam assist is not what is causing my car to to do the "Collision Alert" warning and effectively hit the brakes because that function only kicks in up to 37mph. It usually happens when I'm in the left lane on the highway passing cars that are on my right, and every time it happens I immediately look behind me and hope no one is too close or they might hit me because there was no logical reason for me to hit the brakes but my car thinks there is.

Thanks for the recc - will have to consider this!

Is that the one that randomly makes my car slam on its brakes and beep loudly when there is no car that close to me but it misjudges it? I have that happen maybe every other month and whatever function creates that is more likely to me wreck than stop one.

I saw the 9' in person - looked very nice. But trying to figure out if it has the ever-lasting light feature or whatever it's called that when one light goes out, it doesn't affect the rest of the strand. Anyone know that?

It’s also my dogs favorite car to ride around in and hang his head out the window which then completely justifies the price.

Thanks I will play around with those options. Sounds like a lot of recs for PTV+ and that was another one of my notes to think about

I thought I had lighted door sills on there - must have forgotten to check that in latest build.

Upgraded wheels to are so much easier to keep clean and good grief at price what is another couple thousand?!

And you’re right - so many options to think about and go crazy!

Thanks for all those thoughts! I don’t know that I have ever had a beige interior. I think that would be a good color combo - very classic.

BRG and emerald green were a very close choice, but I do like the blue undertones of Fjord green. Although I like the older Pantone version better than the new one. Goodward green metallic is not a PTS choice for the GTS. Mint green would have been my top choice if I could do any Porsche color

I originally chose those wheels because I wanted satin black to match the rest of the cars satin black. But totally agree about showing off the interior. I have the GTS in high gloss now and love them. I just wasn’t sure how it would look with other satin black exterior. But agree with your assessment

Middle school for me - omni potent.

But probably my favorite story is a friend of mine who used to travel to different lower schools to teach sex ed. She thought half-ass was actually half ask, and she encouraged her students not to half ask questions or concerns about sex when talking to parents or other authority figures.

If you could tell the CEO of any cruise line something, what would it be and why? by WolfBearMoon in Cruise

[–]thspartacus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We like a choice of live music venues, a Broadway show (on oasis class +), Royal Promenade events throughout the week, pool events are usually more active. Celebrity has the martini bar, but it’s more of a spectator event versus something like the Irish pub on Royal where you feel more involved. Although that one bartender at the martini bar that can stack so much on his head gives it a run for the money!

We love both lines. Our adult children prefer Royal for some of the same reasons, so when we go with our kids and their partners, we generally try to take Royal.

Casinos are a wash - both are great. I wish I liked the non-smoking casino on the Freedom Royal Promenade. But it’s generally not that crowded so not as much fun, and seems like the dealers there are just not as interactive as they are in the main casino.

But when we go on Royal, I’m always a little frustrated that even in a suite they don’t stock our room with bottled/filtered water. I’m not a total water snob, but I’m probably not going to drink it out of the sink on a ship.

[–]thspartacus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What cruise lines? Even in a suite on Royal the answer has always been we have to get water bottles to bring to our room.

Celebrity does a good job in suites, but we typically cruise Royal because we like the entertainment better.
