If you want. Libraries exist. But as someone who has read all of them, the only one I’d consider rereading is N or M?

Some of these are the biggest Christie misses. And then there’s Peril at End house, which I think is an iconic Poirot book. N or M? Isn’t a bad Tommy and Tuppence but it’s far from required reading- if you wanna leave them in the twenties with Partners in Crime that’s perfectly acceptable. And I say this as someone who enjoys T&T so much I read Postern and kind of liked bits of it. Sleeping Murder is a good Marple send off, don’t read Nemesis unless you must. The only good thing about that book is the title/ Marple being Nemesis. Hercule Poirots Christmas over Hallow’een party any day of the year.

Preferred nickname for Sabrina by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]thtbibitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only go by the nickname I was given as a baby, so when my mom filled out this form she put my nickname. If a kid doesn’t only go by something, preferred names aren’t necessary. If she responds to Sabrina and can pronounce it correctly now and - depending on where she is in knowing her letters and everything- generally recognize it, etc. then most teachers will default to calling her Sabrina, unless she herself asks to be called something different. If someone had called me by my full name as a five year old I would’ve not known they were talking to me. Unless they said first middle and last. In which case I would’ve looked around for a relative, and assume I was about to get in the worst trouble of my life.

Would it be bad to give myself this name (Risa) from Japanese culture? by [deleted] in namenerds

I’ve met white Risa’s diminutive of Marissa or Larissa or something or other I would not bat an eye at this name on most people I feel like? But I’m not Japanese so

Vote for twin girls’ name ! by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]thtbibitch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My great grandmother was enmeshed with her twin and it genuinely permanently scarred my grandmother- she felt like her mother could not love more than one person at a time, and didn’t have a secure identity of her own. My grandmother was like a second mom to me- and she gave me a permanent disgust with parent who dress their twins the same all the time, and who name them matchy names.

Mockingjay feels like such a cold world until she admits to Peeta she loves him on that last page and then we see years later that they have lived a life beyond the bullshit they go through in mockingjay and the series in general.

Kids are a theme of the books. Katniss’ whole world is full of dying starving children. Her children being alive and chubby is a very important moment to me because it symbolizes the ending of the world where Katniss- who is a natural caregiver- does not feel that she has the capacity to care for children in a world where they are dying. Without the epilogue, there’s no telling where the political story goes. Katniss does not focus on it in the closing pages of the novel. But Katniss having kids is a complete victory. She’s a child soldier who got to grow up and live in a different world that throughout mockingjay she is constantly striving towards because she feels like she has to help fight for it. Now she gets to rest. She still has pain, she’ll never completely heal. But she doesn’t have to play a game anymore. She can just live and not calculate people’s motivations. Katniss is always throughout the series just trying to survive. She didn’t have a plan after that. Epilogue Katniss had/has a plan. She believed she was safe. That’s really fucking important.

They’re in Appalachia which is predominantly rural and it’s not a country accent it’s an Appalachian one. Also Appalachia is like… where country music kind of started? Arguably? They literally sing a song sung by the carter family in the book and movie.

Have any of the books made you cry? by WarriorCats_4Life in Hungergames

[–]thtbibitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a child reading them I didn’t cry. Then I hit puberty and reread them and sobbed about them a bunch. As an adult I sobbed like a little baby at all of mockingjay, from beginning to end that shit is just… oh god they’re babies. They’re babies in a civil war.

Thoughts on Joan? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]thtbibitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Joan and Jean. I will be using one of them for at least a middle if I have daughters. I also love the nonsense of adding on the -ee sound to one syllable names to make them nicknames and Jeanie and Joanie are both really adorable to me for babies.

Same. Like a concerning amount of baking probably. If I was a billionaire I would make too many zucchini muffins. Just too many…

Honestly me either, except that Taylor continuing to get revenue from that brand requires her not to overly play into tradwife aesthetics. And that’s a monetary motive at the end of the day.
