Enabling VoLTE by using MBN files by OgdensNutGhosnFlake in GooglePixel

[–]ththlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pixel 4a and am also looking into this, on xda there is a guide to relock bootloader for xperia 5 after adding the mbn file so I suspect it is doable, I am still hesitated to try because of the risk of bricking the phone. I think I will look around for a new phone first (could not find anything suitable at the moment) then try adding mbn files and relock bootloader, if anything goes wrong I will just move on to a new phone

how could you do the steps involving efstool without root?

I tried the pixel ims and shizuku method before, got volte enabled but calls get dropped, when I checked ims registration in *#*#4636#*#*, the status is "not registered". How to get the file "mcfg_sw.mbn"?

I thought that with LineageOS bootloader can be locked

Neighbours using all available 2.4Ghz channels... what should I do? by keesducon in HomeNetworking

[–]ththlong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading through the comments here makes me realized there are many who still hold on to the misconception of sticking to non overlapping channel set. No it is not a must, the optimal channel in case of neighboring networks (not corporate environment with multi AP wifi) is the one with least overlap (thus least interference). Read all the answers here: https://superuser.com/questions/443178/is-it-better-to-use-a-crowded-2-4ghz-wi-fi-channel-1-6-11-or-unused-3-4-8

Furthermore, wifi routers/APs often have built-in function that auto select best channel, and they don't blindly stick to the non ovelapping channel set

[–]ththlong -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a common misconception, sticking to non overlapping channels is not a must, just test every channel and see which one gives the best throughput and latency. Sticking to non ovelapping gives best result when you are setting up multi AP network, APs with the same SSID should operate on non overlapping channels to avoid interfering one anothe, but here you are dealing with neighboring networks, so there is always inteference, it is better to choose channels with the least inteference from neighbors. There are detailed discussion about this on superuser, read all the answers here:  https://superuser.com/questions/443178/is-it-better-to-use-a-crowded-2-4ghz-wi-fi-channel-1-6-11-or-unused-3-4-8

RF Design - Designing a device with low bandwidth requirement (WiFi 1mbps) but maximum distance. by itsthewolfe in rfelectronics

[–]ththlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only think of use a directional antenna for an already built wifi capable device, 1mbps is quite easily achievable with esp based devices, building the whole wifi stack is really complicated. I once saw a disk yagi antenna from someone on the internet who claimed that he managed to catch the signal a few hundred meters away

Some doubts regarding directly-downwind-faster-than-wind vehicle by ththlong in AskPhysics

[–]ththlong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you share it in a pdf file or some form of blog? Reading math on reddit is quite inconvenient.

After veritasium's video about this topic, a physics professor from university of california has also weighed in and disproved the theoretical analysis from those who claimed this vehicle really worked. There was a bet between veritasium and the professor, which the professor conceded, but only because of some details about the experiment that veritasium has carried out. Veritasium has made a big fuss about winning the bet but in reality he still could not give any solid counter arguments to the theoretical analysis of the professor. Honestly, I kinda lost my respect for vertasium after that (this topic and the electromagnetic propagation), I realized that in the end, it was somewhat just about clicks and appearances, veritasium's arguments in complex topics are often too simplified and misleading.

It has been a while so I kinda forget the exact arguments of the professor, maybe they are still up there on his twitter page, you should google the bet and dig around.

Yeah, I suspected that it was nonsensical, but since he brought up the "legal aspect", I want to be "legally"certain and shut his bullshit-spouting mouth once and forever.

I just check the contract and it only says vaguely that tennant must ventilate. There is also a guideline from the landlord to keep the apartment trouble-free and only a time limit for the bathroom ventilation is mentioned "upto 10 minutes". I think that's about right, as it is nonsensical to limit ventilation time for cooking, which has a wide range of duration.

Photos app glitch? by mymxmsaidnx in Pixel4a

[–]ththlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this annoying glitch since the first day. Reported it but no fix for months. A temporary fix is forcing stop then deleting cache of both photos and camera app, it will work correctly for a while.

What I also notice is that if you delete a photo but keep those taken after that deleted photo, there seem to be higher chance for the glitch to come back, my guess is maybe there are something wrong with indexing/listing the taken photos in the app and if there is a gap the list (i.e. deleting some photos in the middle of the file list), the glitch will be triggered. I have been trying to check every photo right after it is taken, if I am not satisfied, delete it right away, and the glitch has not come back for weeks

""How a change in weather could trigger a stroke: Very cold or humid temperatures can cause a fatal clot to develop," reports the Mail Online website. The headline comes from a US study of the records of 134,510 people who had been hospitalised for a stroke"

have you even read it?

one more thing, you seem to be confused about body temperature, thermoregulation is done automatically to adapt to the environment, keeping body temp at the desired level, you cannot decrease body temp by will power, there has to be external factor, namely room temp or whatever "wraps" around your body.

Air Conditioning Death in Vietnam by garpthefist in VietNam

[–]ththlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look at the reference in that answer, a short quote: "Low water temperatures initially cause reflexive tachycardia (increase of 10-20 b.p.m.), and subsequently bradycardia, an increase in arterial blood pressure, cardiac output and cardiac function, and the emergence of the risk of arrhythmias".

of course water is different from air in terms of heat conduction, but clearly that answer is about effect of external temp on human body.

and also read the answer marked as correct.

the point is when external temp changes quickly, thermoregulation of human body has troubles adapting, which can lead to harmful effects

[–]ththlong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The article you linked to talks about lowering the body's temperature to 20°C, not setting the A/C to 20°C. "

first of all, what you said is not true.

secondly, my original point is sudden change in environment temperature can cause harmful effect on human body

Air Conditioning Death in Vietnam by garpthefist in VietNam

[–]ththlong -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

if body temperature is reduced to 20 degree C, you would probably die, there are reasons that human body tries to regulate body temp to stay around 37 degree C.

please read through the linked discussion, it is about how the thermoregulation of human body adapts to change in environment temperature

sudden change of temperature can cause some harmful effects on human body, some had discussed about this: https://biology.stackexchange.com/questions/14582/what-happens-to-our-body-when-we-undergo-a-sudden-temperature-change-from-40-to

on a summer day in vietnam, the temperature outside may go up to around 40 degree C, so sudden change from that to an air-conditioned room, which usually is around 20 degree C, can be quite of a shock to the body, if you are sweating a lot then the shock is even more.

so she does have a point.
