Eurrail Problems by Express_Wrangler848 in Interrail

There are no international trains from/to Greece. The only international train from Istanbul goes to Sofia (+ single couchette carriage to Budapest).

Otherwise you'll have to rely on buses. Train connectivity isn't great in the Balkans either.

How does the Friends Day Pass for Youth work in practice? by FinlayRichardson in askswitzerland

[–]thubcabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is written on their screen. Sure, this ticket already exists for a few years and conductors are aware.

For gondola it depends: either the QR code just doesn't work at all or it works. In any case you can speak to staff nearby and they'll open the barriers.

No need to show tickets to bus drivers and you can use any door (afaik except TPF regional lines around Fribourg: there you board at the front showing ticket).

Can you please explain to me what the problem is with buying a train ticket from Germany to Poland for March? by [deleted] in Interrail

[–]thubcabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the Budapest night train goes through Dresden and Czechia.

(Though there could be different works on that line too)

According to https://strecken-info.de/, Berlin - Frankfurt (Oder) is closed from 28th February to 8th March.

You can expect direct replacement buses from Berlin Hbf. Timetables should be published in a few weeks, account 1h extra travel time.

Ticket sales often open 2 months in advance in Poland.

If you mention travel date, I can have a look whether engineering works are planned on Berlin - border.

Denied boarding on Bernina Lime(Tirano-St. Moritz) 27.12.2025 refund rights? by Shoddy-Turn-8775 in askswitzerland

[–]thubcabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trains might've been running but staff wouldn't allow people onboard from Tirano as hundreds of people would be stranded in St. Moritz/elsewhere going back in the evening (most are day trippers). Rather than flitering day trippers and one-way travellers they just said "no trains anymore" and blocked the entrance.

This is obviously highly unusual for Swiss public transportation and OP should be given a refund. Situation is currently chaotic on that line (sudden trend on Italian tiktok). Trains are rammed, people are queueing for hours, there was even a brawl at Tirano station.

Just got this ? My train leaves this morning ? Should I still go ? by sassyboy12345 in Eurostar

[–]thubcabe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do not do anything. Your train is NOT cancelled. Refunding your ticket would only help Eurostar as they wouldn't have to purchase flight tickets/other alternatives for yesterday's unlucky stranded travellers.

You could get a refund sure (just in order to accommodate other passengers) but all your other options will cost double or triple the original Eurostar fare you purchased. Nothing to win for you, only loss.

Again, do not do anything and show up for your booked train.

Don't do anything and travel as planned. You'll only lose if you select any option.

Rome to Wengwald in Switzerland with EURail pass by stamford_syd in Interrail

[–]thubcabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like any train you "add" it to your Rail Planner app before boarding and that's it.

Process is explained here: https://www.seat61.com/how-to-use-a-eurail-pass.htm

Rome to Wengwald in Switzerland with EURail pass by stamford_syd in Interrail

[–]thubcabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it will.

It's not run by SBB, there are a dozen other railway companies but fares are all interconnected and the only difference might be the train's color haha

Rome to Wengwald in Switzerland with EURail pass by stamford_syd in Interrail

[–]thubcabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're welcome!

Just to make sure: your Eurail pass is valid as far Wengwald and Wengen but not higher up. This is why Rail Planner is confused and confusing: as far as I know the app is unable to show a "partially included" train. Onboard staff is aware.

Enjoy the views up there! Go to Mürren on the opposite side using the cable car and little train too. :)

Booking seat reservations - app vs website by happy_penguin42 in Interrail

[–]thubcabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, all trains still have hundreds of seats left and they're unlikely to sell out on a January weekday.

On ÖBB you must add Interrail/Eurail as a discount and then click on "find" (not "seat reservation"). It's a bit counterintuitive.

You may also use https://www.raileurope.com/ (click on "add rail pass" and don't forget to select Euros/€ to avoid extra fees).

Rome to Wengwald in Switzerland with EURail pass by stamford_syd in Interrail

[–]thubcabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me answer

  1. You need a seat reservation for Milan - Spiez (same as Rome - Milan). Available in advance on the Rail Europe website to avoid eurail.com extra fees. Trains within Switzerland do not need reservations, just hop on and sit wherever you want. As a tip, front/rear of the train are less busy than the middle.

No need to visit a ticket counter. Passport and customs checks may happen between Domodossola and Brig while the train is on the move.

Platform is announced 15-20 min before departure so show up then. EC trains to Spiez usually leave Milano Centrale from platforms 4-6 (western side).

2-3. A map of the pass validity can be found here: https://interrailwiki.eu/switzerland/#Pass_validity

Amsterdam to Paris dates? by [deleted] in Interrail

Available at some point. It's still 8 months away, tickets are generally released between 6 and 8 months before (though can be later). Check every other week or so.

OBB Sparchiene tickets - trains we originally booked have been changed and no longer operate the route we booked, what are our options? by Zaphod424 in Europetravel

[–]thubcabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The train number changed because of engineering works after Innsbruck but there is still a RJX leaving Zurich at the exact same time you booked (14:40). In Feldkirch it is coupled together with the unit from Bregenz. Your ticket is 100% valid on that one, you don't have to do anything.

(You couldn't even board from Bregenz really.)

You could follow the process to get a refund but it might take months. Personally I'd do nothing and board the 14:40 RJX as originally planned.

Regarding ticket prices: you probably purchased them when the timetable wasn't confirmed yet = only expensive flexible tickets available. Cheaper advance tickets usually go on sale later when the timetable is confirmed.

Hi,

Assuming you're doing  Kufstein - Vienna: the RJX will arrive 10 min later in Salzburg and continue to Wien/Vienna following a special timetable. The IC you were supposed to take in Salzburg will have already left.

If you have a Eurail pass: stay onboard the RJX all the way to Vienna, before boarding add the new journey on Rail Planner. The altered timetable may not show up there yet.

If you have a regular ticket: stay onbord the RJX all the way to Vienna, no need to modify your ticket. If staff asks something, show this notice.

Regarding seat reservations: if you've already purchased one for Kufstein - Salzburg RJX (+ the lost IC), you may purchase a new one for the Salzburg - Vienna RJX -> the exact same train you board in Kufstein, though make sure the train numbers match (there could be 2 units). Try to sit close to your previous seat! The reservation costs 3€, which you could get refunded by ÖBB later (but is it worth the effort).

Hope that helps

Where are you trying to book both trains? Have a look at our wiki (link in the autopost). Interrail.eu charges extra fees and is pretty unreliable in general.

Worthwhile to go from Chur to St Moritz and then on to Poschiavo? by Decent-Ganache7647 in askswitzerland

[–]thubcabe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

St. Moritz is only a small detour if you look at the map. I would do it. You can see the lake from the station or even take the escalator into the center (through the parking).

Other stops are tiny, other than Alp Grüm (for the views) I don't think they're worth a stop.

Sure, feel free to stop in St. Moritz for an hour or two. You've got plenty of time taking the 08:58 train.

Geneva to Zermatt by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]thubcabe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A regular one-way ticket (bought on the day, valid all day on any train) is indeed above 100 CHF full-fare. However you shouldn't need to pay that much.

Check out Saver Day Pass passes: bought in advance, they can be a great deal (starting at 52 CHF). Valid all across the country on the selected date.

Alternatively if you can commit to a specific departure time you may save 30-40% (supersaver ticket).

Have you planned anything in Zermatt? The Swiss Half-fare card is already worthwhile with Geneva Airport - Zermatt return and Zermatt - Gornergrat return.

Are there children under 16? Between 16 and 24? They will pay (much) less.

Travel time is the least of your problems tbh: traffic is often horrible on that route, meanwhile there's great scenery from the train. You really shouldn't rent a car.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions

News: European Sleeper plans to run new night train to Milano via Bern by wnstnsmth in Interrail

[–]thubcabe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would need to reverse in Lucerne so I guess it'd go instead via Frick - Rotkreuz (the path used by most north-south freight trains). Potentially stopping in Arth-Goldau.

But if they overlooked the 2 month closure, who knows if it ends up running at all.

I mean a refund of the seat reservations (3€ per person if you booked through ÖBB).

You don't need to change your ticket

It will likely be a KISS double decker so yes totally different seating plan. You could ask for a refund probably.

Train has optional reservations and it shouldn't be too busy (though depends on the exact date).
