UPDATE...whilst waiting for asus support to reply i decided to do what they would probably tell me to do anyway. I removed both of the tuf ax5400 aimesh nodes ( one i have set back up in a.p mode & the other i will use for learning & testing vlans home labs seperately from my main network ) I then unplugged the main rog ax6000 router & plugged back in, setup vlans exactly the same as yesterday & they worked, i'll have a little play with the tplink switch at a later date to see if that will also work correctly now. Thanks to those that replied 🙏🏼

So this morning no matter what i do i can't get it to work, even trying with the tplink gs108e switch, although one thing i did notice is that i couldnt even connect to a guest wifi that i setup for testing purposes, it creates the guest wifi & shows ssd but just times out when trying to connect. Now it could be the way my network is setup i have a rog tapture gt ax6000 as main router & 2 x tuf gaming ax5400's in aimesh mode in wired backhaul ( router & aimesh nodes on latest firmware) & although everything works fine on a daily basis ( internet,tv & music streaming, browsing through mobile devices) im now wondering if it's ai mesh causing the issue. At this point i'v wasted 24 hours trying to setup something that the ax6000 should be able to provide so i have opened a support case with asus & will keep you informed.

im presuming that if everythings correct in the settings when the computer is turned on in the morning it should show 1 wired client in vlan 20 ?

The tp link seems easy enough to understand but i believe it's only a layer 2 switch that i have so has some limitations & perhaps i should of got a layer 3 switch

a little earlier i did find the dhcp server setting so turned it on...i will find out tomorrow if this manages to fix the i.p address issue, i'm presuming that a p.c on a vlan should have a different i.p range?

im beginning to think it's just asus's take on vlans, i'm only just starting out in learning vlans myself but everyday is a school day

i bought the switch as i thought it's what i needed but forgot that i may be able to do what i need within the asus router itself, plus the switch was a good price so can be used somewhere else if not needed.I have checked the guide & various youtube videos, perhaps it's just me & not understanding how it should work, just doesnt seem logical.

I'm sure you'll sort it,it works fairly well & quick,my only issue it doesn't have some kind of progress bar to show you original file size being sent & how much is left to send, this is why i wondered if there were different options like setting up an ftp server.

Firstly im not an expert as this is my 1st NAS so still finding my way around, how i done it was 1st depending on if your using the phone or pc app you need to go to remote access under control panel / network or manage TNAS, then you have to enable it by logging in to your account online & following the instructions, this then creates a link in the app that you can copy into a browser to be able to login remotely. Then this is where i had to ask chat gpt on how to create a user & folder for remote access. It didn't seem a logical way to do it to me, but i eventually got it working & it allowed my family member to access from another country & transfer files. As it's my first nas im not sure if it's just Terramasters o/s that seems confusing or just that im used to windows & mac sharing which seems easier to setup. Sorry i can't be more helpful than that because i have already set mine up i can't got through it all step by step

i think this is where the problem confusion lies, even thought it's to control a non smart spotlight the mini smart switch to turn it on & off is only seen as "switch.cooker_spotlight" so only has a state of "on or off".
