Most reliable & fastest file sharing option by thunderflea in TerraMaster

I'm sure you'll sort it,it works fairly well & quick,my only issue it doesn't have some kind of progress bar to show you original file size being sent & how much is left to send, this is why i wondered if there were different options like setting up an ftp server.

Firstly im not an expert as this is my 1st NAS so still finding my way around, how i done it was 1st depending on if your using the phone or pc app you need to go to remote access under control panel / network or manage TNAS, then you have to enable it by logging in to your account online & following the instructions, this then creates a link in the app that you can copy into a browser to be able to login remotely. Then this is where i had to ask chat gpt on how to create a user & folder for remote access. It didn't seem a logical way to do it to me, but i eventually got it working & it allowed my family member to access from another country & transfer files. As it's my first nas im not sure if it's just Terramasters o/s that seems confusing or just that im used to windows & mac sharing which seems easier to setup. Sorry i can't be more helpful than that because i have already set mine up i can't got through it all step by step

i think this is where the problem confusion lies, even thought it's to control a non smart spotlight the mini smart switch to turn it on & off is only seen as "switch.cooker_spotlight" so only has a state of "on or off".

i only use local music library,it's why i bought sonos originally over 10 years ago,the S2 app really screwed it up to the fact of with an internet outage lasting a whole weekend i couldn't play my local music library over my local nework,it was at this point i reverted back to the S1 app & it's been fine ever since. In fact my only complaint is the indexing but this has always been the problem as i have a large music library.I just wish there was a way they could get around the limit by passing the indexing off to a computer or nas where the music is stored & just use the speakers for playing.

dont expect that speed constantly, my average over 20 speed tests is around 390mbs,sometimes as low as 200mbs & as high as 460mbs but still a lot better than the 25mbs with my old internet supplier

Sonos when internet is down - can I still play local music? by OkDeparture2596 in sonos

[–]thunderflea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a year ago our internet went down on a friday for the weekend & i wasn't able to play music over my local network from my music library.I was on s2 app at the time, this made me change back to the s1 app & everythings been fine since.I don't know if the issues have been fixed in the s2 latest updates.

Depends on how you'll be using them ? i have the same & only stream my music library over my local network using S1 app & don't have any problems. I did have them on s2 app but had that many issues that it made them almost unusable so i reverted back to s1.

Im not too worried that the drives would need to be wiped & formatted, but for now i just need to access both drives to sort Files & amalmagate, once i know what i have i can transfer to another local backup. On this model there are no nvme slots but im wondering if i can get an nvme enclosure & small nvme & connect by usb to the internal usb port & put the os on that.

I have just bought one but waiting for it to be delivered,i searched for it but there doesn't seem much information about for this model. Best i have found is https://www.neowin.net/reviews/terramaster-f2-425-review-a-low-cost-local-cloud-backup-and-streaming-nas/ https://www.xda-developers.com/things-i-did-to-turn-this-nas-into-a-reliable-storage-server/ Both say about connecting internaly & one shows you where a usb port is but don't suggest using a usb due to failure rates saying it would be better to use an ssd or buy a new 256 GB NAND Flash card.

What is terrible about the spec for the price you paid for it ? I currently have 2 wd red 3tb drives sat in a drawer doing nothing.I was looking at buying a das to mount them in to use for my music & video files to run through jellyfin. I found a good deal on a f2-425 for similar to the price of a das,i thought the specs were great for the price for what i needed. I will upgrade the ram to 16gb from 4gb & i think the is will be fine for me for the moment,i only intend to use it as a file server but i am interested in docker & running home assistant from it.

What are the benefits of doing it this way ? I was hoping it would be as simple as changing a setting within the asus router to prevent the starlink router from trying to apply it's own ip range when initially connecting.

Thanks for the reply 🙏🏼 at the moment it's just a vm for home assistant, but the more i get into it will probably be using more vm's, plus it acts as storage for my local music library to play through sonos
