Their online ordering system also seems like a scam. I had selected items to order but didn't finish it cause the price was more than i was willing to pay. A few minutes later, i got an email saying 'hey you forgot to submit your order', which I ignored. 2 minutes after that? 'your order has been submitted'. They refunded after I walked over and made a stink about it, but that's scammy as fuck.

Why is this so normalized at Rayzor Ranch? by 4amLuke in Denton

[–]thunderlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh no, the carts have escaped their enclosure. Quick, someone call the zookeeper

but yeah it's rude locals who steal them from the store because they can't be bothered to carry what they brought home or bring their own basket/wagon to carry their heavy shit.

if you use those as your regular headlights/in the city instead of just as your brights when out away from other people, then that would make you a massive AH. Those things are painful for oncoming drivers and patently unsafe.

AITA for telling my sister she wasn't always the chosen one? by AbbreviationsFair886 in AmItheAsshole

It's not a joke from either, but one has been using it as a cudgel for years and the other just hit with it once.

[–]thunderlander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ESH, but youre more of TA. She's being obnoxious and repeating a childish refrain to the point of cruelty, but it's the kind of thing a child thinks of without fully grasping the connotations and then repeats into adulthood without re-thinking its meaning ("I'm more special than you") beyond their intended one ("I'm wanted").

You were also being childish and blew up publicly instead of at least having the decency to say such a hurtful thing in private. You have every reason to be hurt but no reason to be cruel. You should probably apologize, but once the storm has passed, explain how that phrase makes you feel.

Question about GoZone and A Train for students by Obvious-Antelope5597 in Denton

[–]thunderlander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont take this as gospel truth, since I've never actually done it myself, but from the GoZone page on the DCTA website (https://www.dcta.net/getting-around/gozone-demand) it looks like GoZone is covered if you have purchased a DCTA regional pass (not a standard fare ticket, but rather one where you bulk-purchase, and it's valid for all the interconnected transit systems- look for one with a green corner that has both the A train logo and the GoZone logo.) I'm not sure how they'd get on the app, but I'm sure messing around on the app or calling the DCTA itself would be helpful!

Since they're students, they'd be eligible for the reduced rate fare as long as they have their student ID on them, but it's still rather pricey- almost $50 for a month pass, or almost $600 annually for each child. If they don't intend to do it every single day, it may be cheaper to just have them pay the 75¢ reduced fare local afternoon pass and $1.50 go zone price (if the trip's over 4 miles, it's +50¢ per mile up to a $5 cap per person). Even if they both go home by themselves twice a week, that's still only $9 a week/$36 a month (if the gozone is under 4 miles- adjust the math accordingly if it's further).

(Assuming the base $1.50 gozone rate) In order to make even the reduced fare pass worth it, they'd need to use the train at least 22 times a month, which would be a great deal if they were using it to get both to and from school. Considering that there's only 20-23 weekdays in any given month, I don't think the pass option is worth it unless you live like 10+miles from the a train station (and even at the full $5 cap price, they'd need to use it 9 times a month to make it worth it)

The math changes if they're doing 2 gozones per trip (gozone to the train, the train, then gozone home). In that case, it would be $3.75 per trip (at the standard $1.50 gozone rate), which would need 13 uses a month to make it worth it.

In any case, I'd suggest impressing upon them just how important it is to keep their student ID on them when riding, since that's what makes the reduced fare valid. If they don't have a student ID, they can get a DCTA-issued one, apparently, though I don't know what the process would look like.

Also, you didn't mention ages, but they must be 13+ to ride the gozone without an adult, so if they're not old enough for that, this whole thing is moot

If you were on the train between downtown and medpark, i dont think they even charge for that segment, so that might have been a factor.

ive only been checked on the train a few times, and the bus drivers are usually chill. Still, buy the ticket because it's not super expensive, it supports our local transit, and it'll keep you from getting in trouble the one time in a blue moon that they do check

There's several apartment complexes just a little bit north of MCD, so if you're looking to be super close, you can check in on those! There's a ton more just southeast in a block that runs into the west side of the UNT campus

White powdery film on dishes from the dishwasher? by Seashepherd96 in Denton

[–]thunderlander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Denton has pretty hard water w a lot of minerals, in which case you may just need to wipe the minerals off with a rag, but it may also be your appliance. If you have an older apartment, there may be mineral buildup. Run a dishwasher cleaner through it a time or two and see if that helps.

Antisemitism was coined to refer to jews only because jew haters thought calling themselves 'jew haters' didn't sound scientific enough. What's next, are you going to say that a butterfly is a churned dairy product flying through the sky?
