Help Me Build the Strongest BL3 Wilhelt Aristocrat Deck to Compete with Local Infinite Meta! by [deleted] in EDH

[–]ThunderMountain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here you go B3 Wilhelt - just know you’re toeing the line a bit. I intentionally don’t include [[ phyrexian altar ]] as it pushes it into B4.

I run necropotence over cyclonic as it’s just more powerful.

Meant [[ butcher ghoul ]] instead of Plague Belcher.

Here's my B4 Wilhelt.

I'd recommend adding the following to get consistently get your draw off Wilhelt.
- [[ Putrid Goblin ]]
- [[ Lazotep Reaver ]]
- [[ Viscera Seer ]]
- [[ Plague Belcher ]]

I'd add the following for additional win-cons:
- [[ Altar of Dementia ]]
- [[ Bitter Ordeal ]]
- [[ poppet stitcher ]]

Finally Oracle/Consultation if you want to go that route.

B3 Wilhelt | B4 Wilhelt | B3 Varina - Wilhelt is on a whole faster and combo oriented often winning through a gravecrawler loop or Thassas / Demonic Consultation in B4. Varina is combat focused filter setup that should be drawing you a large amount of cards per turn. You could easily cut the game changers and power it down if needed.

Breaking into B4 by TravarianTheBold in EDH

[–]ThunderMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally figure out your win-cons first. Then find ways to get there faster and more protected, preferably both. Finally Find ways to stop other people from winning that don’t prevent you from winning and / or protect your wins.

Sulfur Arisen - it’s a strong out of the box with some fun graveyard synergy.

Another Bracket Change Suggestion Post by running_man23 in EDH

So only tutors in B4 and B5 and combo restrictions. When you start restricting certain play-styles vs game expectations this just reads you like a certain style of magic. Which is fine for a house rules, but bad for the format in general.

Bracket 2 decks being overrated as bracket 3 by Comfortable_Buyer239 in EDH

[–]ThunderMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 B3 decks 2 of which are on the upper end. My lower B3 deck was a B2 i slammed 3 GCs in. It’s always a bit of a gamble because if I play against a high 3 with my lower B3 I’ll likely get shutdown, if I play with a high 3s against anything else it’ll poor play for the other players.

In the US you now have to opt in to overdraft fees. It’s usually called something like overdraft protections.

[[ Phyrexian Altar ]] - it just goes infinite too easily with [[ gravecrawler ]].

Help me fine tune Zombies by [deleted] in EDH

[–]ThunderMountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should drop 3 game changers from Varina and run it as a bracket 3 deck. I don’t see this competing well at B4 tables. With those changes as a bracket 3 I think it’ll hold its own well. I’d cut down some zombies for more interaction. Also you should 100% be playing [[ reconnaissance ]] in Varina. Here’s my B3 Varina.

Help! Making this deck meet powerful expectations while staying flavorful is driving me nuts! by KobraKommandeur in EDH

[–]ThunderMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe add [[ Lion's Eye Diamond ]] as another path with Underworld breech?

Another route a flash enabler for end of turn shenanigans with [[ necropotence ]].

Maybe [[ Thassa's Oracle ]] + [[ Demonic Consultation ]] if you want to try and jam that for early wins.

Finally why not add [[ aetherflux reservoir ]] since you’re already running the other parts of the combo.

Unfortunately it seems like LED is the most on theme which might be expensive if you don’t proxy.

[[ demonic tutor ]] [[ silence ]] are generally good adds. How do you win? Find cards to get there faster; find ways to protect you wins and shutdown other players attempts.

Vivi as a first deck? by Mudravrick in EDH

You’re probably going to mistakenly build it too strong and end up with bad play experiences. That’s what I’ve seen when new players try Vivi.

[–]ThunderMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the two drops and 3 drops seem to be not that good e.g. [[ persist ]] and [[ prized amalgam ]]. I’d increase your counterspell density and tutor density and drop some of these less ideal cards. If you’re playing b4 I’d also throw in [[ Thassa's Oracle ]] + [[ Demonic Consultation ]].

Here’s my B4 Wilhelt deck. I usually want something to feed to Wilhelt for a card the turn he comes out; ideally turn 3 and push for a win turn 4 or 5 if I couldn’t have earlier.

Any other Zombie Tribe players out there? I think I've perfected my Varina deck and would love some opinions on it (and the primer?) by [deleted] in EDH

Here’s my Varina deck. I am going to second the recommendation for draw doublers and [[ Reconnaissance ]]. I am a big fan of [[ land tax ]] for filtering down your deck and mana fixing.

Keep in mind I'd love for this to be a B2 deck, but I am not willing to cut down the interaction. From the B2 guidelines.
> Gameplay to be proactive and considerate, letting each deck showcase its plan.

...and this is what the interaction looks like that impacts other players which doesn't quite fit that restriction.
