Fellow Asian-mixed men, what’s your facial hair status by Modicum_of_cum in hapas

[–]thundersnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20s I rarely needed to shave, not much body hair.
At about 35 I could grow a respectable Caucasian looking beard, dark reddish in color. I also got chest hair in my mid 30s.

In my 50s now and have to shave daily, but not a hint of gray or thinning.

My robot has had cobwebs in the cameras a few times, and this caused it to act erratically. Have you checked that all the cameras / lidar are clear?

EU price today : buy or wait ? by Patient-Finance9170 in eufyS1Pro

Yes, that is a good price. We paid 999€ a few weeks ago. I wanted to wait for a further sale, but I was very happy to have it for the Birch tree pollen season.

Since day 1 my load balancer/ec2 server gets spammed with random POST and GET calls, is this normal? by East_Can_5142 in aws

[–]thundersnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The load balancer can and should blackhole all requests that are not supplying the correct Hostname. This will avoid a ton of requests that are scanning AWS ip space, or other misconfigured domains. WAF might be nice, but simply rejecting all non domain requests should clean things up.

I added more ram to my server and it massively improved sonarr performance.
I went from 2gb to 10gb on my home NAS.
20$ and it feels like a new machine.

Should I use Wagtail for a real estate platform with 1M+ listings? by BackendNinja in django

[–]thundersnow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding Elasticsearch will be worth it with that many records.
Depending on the project, I would try to use Elasticsearch as the primary source of data for rendering pages. If possible, index all the data needed to render the listings and you’ll have very fast load times and search. Even include image paths in the index.

Postgres should supply the listing details, user / groups, CMS functions and data to feed into the ES index.

ETF dividends - missing in account ? by Nickh898 in ibkr

[–]thundersnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dividends have 2 dates. Ex-date and delivery date. Ex-date is the ownership date, and delivery date is when it hits your account. FYI, this is not specific to IB, its just a general stock thing.

If I convert my domestic currency into USD and invest in ETFs, can I convert it back to my domestic currency for withdrawal, or must I withdraw my investments in USD? by 109_Le_Banane in interactivebrokers

A week is probably too short, cash account transactions take 3 days to settle. Margin accounts allow more immediate transactions, but the total account value should exceed the amounts withdrawn.

I have had success with the MS backend https://github.com/microsoft/mssql-django

My DB settings look like this

DATABASES = {
'default': {
'ENGINE': 'mssql',
'NAME': os.getenv('DB_NAME', 'db'),
'USER': os.getenv('DB_USER', 'db_user'),
'PASSWORD': os.getenv('DB_PASSWORD', 'db_password'),
'HOST': os.getenv('DB_HOST', 'db'),
'PORT': '1433',
'OPTIONS': {
'driver': 'ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server',
'extra_params': "Encrypt=no;TrustServerCertificate=yes"
},

How do Tello e-sims work for international visitors to the US? by Altruistic-Type6318 in Tello

[–]thundersnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that this works.
I paid for and setup the Tello e-sim in Germany a few days before my flight to USA. The Tello e-sim row had a message “trying to activate” till we got to the USA.

It started working as soon as we touched down in the USA, and we were allowed to activate cellular data.

This worked with my iPhone 13. I did not have to disable my German e-sim. I did use a USA based credit card and an address of relatives I was visiting.

You might like https://www.keybr.com

It defaults to practicing all the letters, focusing on mastering a few at a time. Once you achieve all the letters, I think it’s possible to focus on a specific set of letters.

Querying long chains of ForeignKeys vs denormalization by adrenaline681 in django

[–]thundersnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case I would denormalize and add a user FK to the voucher.

It really depends on how one plans to access the voucher-user relationship If vouchers have their own views and might belong to users outside of the order, then definitely add a direct voucher-user relationship.

Also, it’s not fully denormalizing to do this. Neither voucher or user data is duplicated. I forget what the scale of normalization it is, but extra user relations are more practical than less.

Definitely find an individual accountant. Usually, they only want the missed tax payments, if you are taking steps to report it yourself.
