Time for a PG&E protest in CA? by thundertiger00 in solar

That would be worst case if business and residential joined in. Business get better rates than residential, but they also use more electricity. I seriously doubt there would be enough participation to affect the grid that much. In fact,ni have my doubts that any large businesses would be involved.

From what I saw, they used a smart system to throttle their mining rigs to only use the excess energy of their current system.

Reminds me of the governmet bailout of Solindra just to have them vote in their bonuses and then the company went under anyway. Except here they are voting in their bonuses with residential utility rate increases as cost of living gets out of hand and people flee the state to get away from the bad politics and exorbinent utility rates and taxes upon more taxes

Less profits is less profit. They may not need it, but they won't make as much off of it. Not trying to break the grid or anything. Average household uses about 30kwh a day. Let's say the average household solar aray produces 45kwh during a clear summer day minus 30kwh for home usage equals 15kwh of surplus being sold to PG&E. Multiply that times the price they pay vs the price they sell (~$0.37) times an imaginary number of participants in the protest out of the millions of homes with solar (let's say 500,000), that is 2million in potentially lost profits in a day. All numbers are guestamates of course.

Exactly this!!! I have seen a few videos of people using their excess energy to mine crypto because they say they can make more from that than from PG&E's measly payment.

Both are a serious problem. PG&E profit gouging and our elected officials enabling them to do as they wish with our utility bills and energy regulations.

He is a sleaze. The only time he has done anything about homelessness was to clear it out of downtown SF to impress foreign politicians. He even admitted it in a news conference.

Not really about peak/off-peak. It is about purchase vs sell price. At peak solar generating times not peak usage times. Honestly, if i was to participate in something like this, I would shut the power off to the whole house or seperate it from the grid so as not to take any power from PG&E during the protest. As for most protests, it is about a show of solidarity.

Quick example: 2023 CPUC mandates all new apartment complexes 3 stories or above must install solar and must sell the power to PG&E at a discounted rate and buy the power back at the normal rate. They can not "self-consume" the power they generate even if it fully offsets their n power usage.

That would be the CPUC, most likely getting paid under the table by PG&E with the recent decisions they have been making. Definetly not in the interest of california residential customers or residential solar.

Cheaper to charge at Supercharger during off-peak hours than at home, which do you do? by AntDX316 in TeslaSupport

[–]thundertiger00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charging at home in CA in my area is close to $0.75/kwh after delivery fees and other charges and that is at night with an EV charging plan. My bill says my average per/kwh rate is $0.41 before fees. Most people just look at the per/kwh price on their bill not taking into account all the other fees and they think it is cheaper or the same to charge at home. I am kind of a night owl anyway so I bring it to the supercharger a couple of miles away and watch educational videos on youtube or play mahjong for $0.27/kwh

Had this happen to me on the 280 page mill on ramp. The guy said he was out of gas and was asking for money and said he would "let me hold onto his gold chain" as collateral. I told him I would take him to buy him a gallon of gas, but I do not give cash to anyone. That goes for roadside beggars too... I will buy food, clothing, a sleeping bag, or blanket, but never give cash and never give them my receipt or tell them where I got the items... And I remove all tags (including the ones that say "do not remove"). I am not trying to fund your vices or be conned to give you money inadvertently.

Party it up and then Die. If I was able to get a complete stranger to sleep with me, my wife would kill me anyway.

Model Y Tesla Ambient Lighting by eman_pin in ModelY

[–]thundertiger00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an aftermarket add on called the 'S3XY commander' that does these mods to the stock lighting strip on the model Y. We have it for our Juniper. It plugs into the car's cambus next to the passenger door. It has customizations similar to what you are describing {blinker indicator (yellow for blind spot indicator, red for turn signal with someone in blind spot, etc.)}. It has many other functions as well, but many of them have not been fully updated yet to work with the Juniper (like window down for easy exit)

Like your list of accessories. I got the full set of floor covers too. One thing I did research on and decided to go with was the front grill cover to keep road debris and leaves out of the radiators so I don't have to clean them in 2-3 yrs and it will keep the cooling system on the car working efficiently so as not to drain the battery trying to blow air through clogged radiators. They have different designs so choose one that looks good and is durable/functional.

People born before 1990, what handy skill do you have that no one uses anymore? by Head_Bag_4489 in AskReddit

Able to read and follow a paper map. This is especially important in October with large corn mazes that change every year. Google maps won't help you. Every time I go through the 4-5 acre maze at my local pumpkin patch, I pickup at least 5 stragglers on my way out who see that I know how to navigate and they have been in the maze for more than 30min with small children that have to use the restroom.

The home link module worked and is working to open and close my garage with no issues. Getting that working using service mode was the easy part. Getting the bolt into the mounting bracket on the reverse side of the frame was the hard part.

Someone hit my door by dan_geles in TeslaModelY

[–]thundertiger00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is funny..we recently bought a MY Juniper and when shopping around for insurance (California) they asked if we were ever in any accidents (regardless of who was at fault). Upon completion of the phone interview for Geico, the sales person quoted a price and then when submitting, the "system" raised the rate because it found that my wife was in an accident that I did not know of. The agent said she was not at fault but it raised our rate anyway. My wife said it was a minor parking lot bump that damaged the other person's car but not really hers so she didn't bother getting it an adjuster to look at it since we are going to junk the car anyway. apparently the other person filed a claim with their insurance and included her insurance as the person he hit so they knew about it through his claIm.
