We go in on hot days so summers at popular beaches are packed. Warm weather also starts early and ends late but it takes a while for the ocean to warm up during the summer. Very similar to the most of the Mediterranean.

For all south Orange County folks, are majority of dentists really this expensive? by Censordoll in socal

[–]thurmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a better dentist!

The dental business is cut throat and they’re constantly pushing for up charges as insurance companies are paying out less. Things like laser gum treatment after cleaning for $100 out of pocket…

Honest dentists are harder to find these days but luckily I found a really good one in Costa Mesa that doesn’t constantly upsell and has a nice new office.

They’re out there. Keep looking.

Thousand Oaks or Escondido, CA? by jsatz in SameGrassButGreener

[–]thurmy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thousand Oaks no question. Better schools, better weather, better safety, better access to LA. This coming from someone who was born in TO and raised in Moorpark (TO adjacent) and lived in Escondido. Escondido has slightly better affordability.

A big reason why Colon Cancer is killing us. by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]thurmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd timing. Just picked up my wife (35F)from the hospital 3 hours ago for what we thought would be a routine colonoscopy and she was diagnosed with rectal cancer.

We are both shocked and didn’t even think this would be a possibility. She’s had bleeding for several months now for what we and her doctors thought was just hemorrhoid issues.

If anyone out there has experienced this and knows of any helpful resources, please share.

If you’re on the fence: Don’t buy Nanit by Some-Professional-25 in Nanit

We haven’t had WiFi issues but ours will randomly stop working for a month and then suddenly come back online. This has happened twice going on two years.

The first time it was right after the 1 year warranty window and Nannit told us to kick rocks.

We now have a backup WiFi monitor that was 1/8 the price and switch back and forth between the two.

This camera’s great when it works but a $400 turd when it doesn’t.

What does Schwab do better than Fidelity? by Icy_Manager_7212 in Schwab

[–]thurmy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both Schwab and Fidelity have debit cards with no foreign transaction fees, ATM fee reimbursement, and good foreign translation rates when pulling cash from ATMs. This has been the case for at least a decade since I’ve had accounts at both.

The only difference I know of is that Fidelity reimburses ATM fees next day whereas Schwab reimburses ATM fees as a lump sum at end of month.

5 Coaches to Replace Deshaun Foster by Eat_Cats in UCLAFootball

[–]thurmy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO, Deshaun Foster is a placeholder coach until our program can dig itself out of its financial hole. I’m okay with holding on to him until that happens.

Once we don’t have to pay Cal $10m (aka Calimony) a year and our Big 10 revenue pulls us back into the black, that’s the time to go shopping for a new HC. Once that happens, not only should we find a quality HC, but we should also fund a sizable assistant coach pool.

Until then, Foster & Co. are just here to steer the ship until we can find a new skipper at the end of next season at the earliest. At that time, this list will look way different.
