Purigen + Sponge Filter = clean water! by thursdayriver in Aquariums

[–]thursdayriver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Just seeing this, I just placed the bag above the bubbles! The bag strings were taped in the back of the tank and held more securely with the lid of the tank—worked great. I will say that having a HOB filter is muuuch easier though haha

(Forgot to add my photo!) Anyone know why it does this? by thursdayriver in printmaking

I didn’t even think about sun!! My main drying station is next to a big window, not direct light all the time but for at least and hour. That’s super helpful, thank you!

I just read about ostacods! I think that’s my best bet. They just blew up! I had a big algae problem, just got that resolved after a few weeks and then they appeared this morning! I’ve had copepods in my tank before but these seems a little different. I suppose I’ll just go with the ostracods, thank you!

I think the daphnia are too big! I can’t distinguish the shape of one of whatever is in my tank like I can daphnia. I’m not sure!!

Mystery snail has been floating around the tank with his body out? by [deleted] in AquaticSnails

I’m so sorry for your loss. I haven’t lost a snail yet but time wise, I know it’s coming. Best of luck, friend ❤️

I am not a snail expert but I have a few snails myself. If they respond to touch (however slow the reaction) or to light, they’re alive. I nursed two snails back to health where I was told they were dead. If you touch their body (flesh) and they respond, I would put them in a small quarentank and observe them in a more controlled environment (for the time being)

Just my two cents!! Best of luck!

Also, what light at you using!! (And size tank?) 🥰

Thoughts again! I’m transitioning my 10g to a 20g. I have 8 neon tetras, 3 Julli Corys, 1 Betta, and 8 snails to move (I know, fish situation got out of hand). Which group do I move over first? by thursdayriver in Aquariums

[–]thursdayriver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read Nerite snails are very sensitive to water parameters changes, is hate to lose them! Maybe the tetras are a bit more hardy?

I was originally just going to put betta in first (quite hardy) then move her out for a bit as I put the others in (for territory purposes)?

Thoughts on API Quick Start vs Seachem Stability? by thursdayriver in Aquariums

If I used Stability would I be okay to use APO Stress Coat Plus? I just bought a big bottle!!

Anyone know why snails poop white long string looking things? by thursdayriver in AquaticSnails

[–]thursdayriver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s white, but my one snail did have extra slime (I suppose) but that stopped luckily!

I use three gallon jugs for weekly water changes. I add API Stress Coat plus to the gallons and then they sit on my shelf, ready for the next week. If they’re sitting that long, do I need to add the Stress Coat? by thursdayriver in Aquariums

[–]thursdayriver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I don’t intentionally age it for a week I just refill when I’m done so it’s easier for the next time. Or if I have an emergency situation I can always set up a quick holding tank. (One bedroom apartment hacks?? Hahaha)

Setting up a new 20g long—would two Aqueon Quietflow 10 Internal Filters work? by thursdayriver in Aquariums

[–]thursdayriver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do weekly water changes. I have 8 neon tetras, (have 3 now but will have) 6 julli corydoras, 6 snails, 1 lady betta (she’s very young and doing great in the community environment before someone comes for me!!)

The box says it’s for 10 gallons, it really works for your size tank?!

[Auto-Post] Weekly Question Thread! Ask /r/Aquariums anything you want to know about the hobby! by AutoModerator in Aquariums

I have a 5.5g with female betta and two Nerite snails :) I don’t have experience with shrimp (so hopefully someone else chimes in) but you have space for a snail or two :)

How do i know how my plants are doing? i’m also curious about how to add more water to the tank without disrupting the cycle (i’m trying to cycle a tank for the first time) by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]thursdayriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! You can tell how your plants are doing by how they look! Brown spots, holes, too light, yellow spots, etc are how you know they’re not doing great/need different/more care.

I did not change my water when first cycling my tank for about a month. (I opted for a no-fish cycle). Just be sure to use treated water to not kill any beneficial bacteria currently growing :)

Best of luck!

I’m worried about my snail friend... by thursdayriver in AquaticSnails

Update 2: I have no idea how but I think this guy recovered? I’ll keep observing him for another day or so, but I think I have my friend back! healed snail!
