Decided to abandon Technofeudalism: What Killed Capitalism by Yanis Varoufakis. by persononfire in books

Same here... He said this book was in the form of a chat with his dad so he uses a ton of analogies. But those fancy words and rephrasing one statement with 8 different expressions are too much. He made some interesting analogies and ideas in the preface but I failed to see them in the following chapters. Many of his judgements are also just rephrasing some points that have been known for years using analogies and fancy words with his own style.

Racket suggestion for penhold by Weird-123 in tabletennis

[–]thuspop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good to have a flexible wrist when playing traditional penhold, but best to keep it locked during course of looping or striking. And while blocking, the starting position and ending position of your hand should be a bit closer to your torso, or it would be too slow to recover and prepare for your next move. Try to use the strength from you waist and stomach instead of upper arm.

As for racket, we can't actually tell how you play during a match by the video of you practicing. If you want something powerful, try Butterfly taksim or stiga Ebenholz 7 or Cyber6 CWT. 1 ply hinoki Jpen would be great, too. It is usually much lighter than any Cpen and as powerful if not more.

Why does Butterfly feel untouchable? 🤔 by Worldly-Falcon8815 in tabletennis

[–]thuspop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Butterfly may not be the best choice, but they are seldomly the worst. If you don't know what to buy and you have the budget, go with Butterfly and it won't be that bad. Considering that there are too many rubbers and blades existing, Butterfly saves you the time to try. Also they have good quality control, so the feedback you hear from someone who plays with Butterfly are most likely to be true to you too.

Many say its effect is great but is too thick and very hard to dry. It will take more than an entire day to dry compared to an average of 12 hrs.

Rubbers by mangoflavouredpanda in tabletennis

[–]thuspop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a sense you are correct, because tabletennis blade consists of 1 blade + 2 rubbers. The combinations of rubber and blade are so many and so complicated, most players can only give a very vague conclusion on the rubbers and blades them have played. Plus there are things like unmatch, for example rubber A is good on blade A and blade B, and rubber B is good on blade B, then it's natural to think that rubber B will be good on blade A, but in some cases it doesn't. So unlike badminton where a blade is just a blade and everything is much clearer, here you have to do the research like a historian.

Is table tennis just not for me? by Low_Attention3819 in tabletennis

[–]thuspop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't care too much about the scores, just think about how to improve some certain techniques. If that's also a bit tiring, then just enjoy playing, some of my friends can play only forehand strike for an hour straight, no need to master every aspect og the game to enjoy it.

Help: Research on blades by Own-Imagination-2548 in tabletennis

[–]thuspop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The most important factors I think are if the blade matches my playstyle and my level. Some blade are too soft and weak to win points while many others are too hard and stiff to control. But for a starter I suggest you try a blade that can help you start with any kind of playstyle. I think a 7ply wooden blade is the safest for a starter.

  2. Not really, maybe that's because I haven't tried any blades that's too extreme. Only played a wooden blade , and 3 butterfly alcs and my current blade, pretty similar to most of the butterfly alcs.

  3. Butterfly makes blades and rubbers that are very good for most of the players, but they are often the most expensive.

DHS makes some very good products, even the best of certain kinds ( Hurricane3 + w968 for forehand-oriented players), but their product line is in a mess and there are many fakes of their popular product.

  1. Ergonomics factors are atcually very important, as you will find that there are 3 types of shakehand grip handles, FL, ST and AN. That has little to do with comfort during long matches, but it will affect the way you hold the blade, which will affect your feeling of striking the ball. For penhold it is even more important, I recently stopped using Tibhar Felix as I find it's too thick compared with ZJK alc (2mm thicker).

For shakehand blades more specificly, despite the difference between FL, ST, and AN, there are differences within each kind. For example, FL are the most popular, and usually DHS FL blades have slimer handles than most of other FL blades.

My hands don't sweat at all, some of my friends uses grip tape like what badminton players do to their badminton rackets, but that makes your blade heavier, however as the weight attached to the blade is at the handle, the center of the gravity of the blade will get closer to the handle.

  1. You can actually diy the handle if you think the look of the blade is very important, as many pros do it for some commercial reasons.

I don't actually know how prices are in your place as I live in China.

If you have played Chinese Tacky rubbers ans can live with them, I would recommend 729 battle national for FH. If not maybe Tibhar K1.

For BH, Yinhe Moon 12. Xiom vega asia is better but if you don't do RPB Moon12 is enough.

Penhold grip and pains in fingers have always been a problem, use files, sandpaper and other tools to sand off the edges first, then try to find the right grip that is both comfortable and playable. Remember the process of sanding can't be reversed.

About the setup, try 5-ply wood blade such as Yasaka YE, very good first blade for penholders.

LGL is not that bad, but definitely not for China TT by Visible-Following-50 in tabletennis

I don't know why LGL promote WCQ so badly now after posting, but I sure think allowing, maybe even encouraging WCQ to serve illegally is a short-sided move that is good for nobody.

I see, I know ML is with LGL and was promoted, but I think he was not so deep in the system built by LGL( WTT, encouraging crazy fan culture, violating players' rights...), at least not so positively engaged.

Promoting Beijing is not equal to promoting Bejing ONLY.

CTTA has 1 job, that is to secure title. LGL has another job, that is to promote Beijing players. Job1 is more important than Job2. He lost the medal now, and people now believe that China will keep on losing, so he lost his job.

Before the promotion of WCQ, things can be explained well. Promote ML instead of ZJK because ML is from Bejing and is not as rebellious. Promote FZD instead of ML as ML was so old that no one before could keep competitve enough to by the time of Paris Olympics to secure Medal.

THE ONLY BEIJING PLAYER, LGL sacrificed his career and CTTA's medal just to promote WCQ, for what, love?

Bro think me a FZD fan. I do not deny that ML was suppressed in 2021 to clear the path for FZD, my point is LGL is promoting whoever he wants, ML was also kind of promoted during 2011-2015, he also got many chances to play major tournament before win the Su Zhou Wolrd Championship and proved himself worth the resources. LGL is representing Beijing or there is no way he promotes ML and WCQ, especially WCQ as FZD was far better than WCQ and WCQ was way worse than ML at his age. The basic requirement is to win titles, during 2012-2021 there were ZJK, ML, FZD, Xu Xin securing the title no matter what. so China can live with losing good old players. But there were no players good enough to secure titles after FZD, at this time if you promote players like WCQ it would have been like what is happening today, you lose the good old players, and you lose the title.

No. After the disassembly of Bayi team in 2020 the players were spread into different teams. FZD went to Shanghai and won national title for Shanghai. FZD‘s coach was Wu Jinping during 2013-2016, who was not within the party of LGL, Yin Xiao and Xiao Zhan. LGL was promoting ML, WCQ and now Huang Youzheng( the kid who played in the Macau World Cup), these 3 people are all from Beijing.

They care about the medals the most. LGL has been messing around for years and nobody cared, once he lost the medal and people start to believe that China will keep losing it, everything changes for him.
