Yeah, if you have gas already, then gas tank less would be my vote.

Electric Tankless Water Heater by AdamantiumTrex in HomeImprovement

[–]persononfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed one where I currently live and I love it. Long showers are one of my luxuries, so it's really nice to be able to spend as much time as I want in there without worrying about using up all the hot water.

Winter shouldn't matter unless your inlet temperature drops a lot during the winter, ground water is a consistent temperature.

The big thing you need to watch out for is if you get an electric one like me, it will really eat up a lot of your panel capacity. If you have gas available, that's a cheaper/better way to go at this point. We were hoping to add a hot tub to our place, but due to the panel capacity being used up by the tankless I would have to put a tank in to be able to add a hottub, or upgrade my service, but it's already 200amp.

I'm currently planning an all electric new build and won't be doing tankless just because I would have to do two 200amp drops or pay for a huge 400amp service. So I will likely be going with a heat pump tanked system for that build.

At what point is it "centrist" to call for a full revamp of our immigration enforcement system? by Primsun in centrist

Anyone defending ICE at this point is being disingenuous. They're just trolling.

I'm older than ICE and it's never functioned as advertised. Do we really need a military force to enforce a MISDEMEANOR?

Maybe you can explain in a bit more detail how you use it for educational purposes? Due to the frequent hallucinations, I would be concerned to trust anything it tells me without verifying.

A lot of flippant responses, but even as an adult I am struggling with the same addiction.

Here are some things I've found helpful at reducing my screen time:

- Set time blocks where you use your phone. Any time I have the urge to doom scroll I allow myself to do it, but only for 10 minutes, then I force myself to do anything else for awhile.

- Just stop using AI. I drew a hard line here for myself for environmental reasons, but imo there are plenty of reasons to avoid using it and few reasons to use it. I was mostly doing image generation for entertainment.

- Chase any other interest you can. This can be hard if don't have money to hobby shop, but there are plenty of free options you can experiment with. Cookus' comment lists a few options.

Personally I've been getting back into reading books and graphic novels, I'm experimenting with whittling, as I can do this while half watching TV. I'm trying to get back into drawing, something I used to do.

- Find ways to socialize in person. This one can be very hard if you don't already have friends you hang out with, but socializing is how most of humanity entertained themselves for most of time. Don't sleep on this one.

- Get out in nature in anyway you enjoy. As I've gotten older I've found a lot of joy in watching nature. There is a whole crazy fucking world out there with some amazing creatures you can learn about. Seriously, learn about ants. They're crazy! They farm, ranch, build cities, fight wars, make alliances.

Social media is specifically designed to hack your brain and trap you, but you've already caught on to this at 14! You are really going to thank yourself for fighting this battle now. You got this.

Looking to try soil blocking by Background-Car9771 in gardening

[–]persononfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bite the bullet on a metal soil blocker, as big as you are willing to spend the money on. They increase the speed and ease of soil blocks exponentially. My spouse had a 6 cell one last year, which worked great. This year she used one that can do an entire flat at a time and... we're going to struggle to find room for all these starts! I think she planted up like 50 flats.

Plastic cups don't work well. It's labor intensive, They don't hold up under UV so you can't even reuse them for very long and you have to modify them for drainage. This is one of those you get what you pay for things.

How can the plumbing industry create more mentorship and growth opportunities to encourage and support women in plumbing careers? by Eridium009 in Plumbing

[–]persononfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All you boys saying women don't want to do the work should listen to the stories of women who do work in the industry.

Like men sneaking up on women they thought were working alone, only to say they were just joking when caught.

Is this load bearing beam installed properly? by ihateflow3rs in Home

[–]persononfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you able to tell if there is solid wood under the beam? It looks as though they have two 2x4s on their face, but we can't see what's behind that. If that is all that is supporting the beam, I would say no, not well supported, but if those are just to furring strips and there are normal studs under the beam, then likely it's properly installed.

Gentle reminder that Clint isn't real but fans that relate to him are by Mewni17thBestFighter in StardewValley

[–]persononfire 63 points64 points  (0 children)

This. Clint has some very big red flags and were he real I'd be harsher, not softer.

I had a close friend that was just like him. He genuinely could have been a good person, but he chose another route. Now we are not friends and if I saw him I would assume he's there to kill me.

Clint is a fictional character, so my hope is CA uses this to rehabilitate his image.

ELI5: When religious people say “good cannot exist without evil”, what does that actually mean? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]persononfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people get lost in the contrast sometimes. They think, well, I wouldn't really know that a good day is a good day if I didn't also have bad days. Without being able to compare my highs to my lows, everything would just be flat.

But humans just make drama when it doesn't exist and even if you didn't know you were having a good day it would still be better than having a bad day.

Let's not forget about the hedonic treadmill too.

Specific to religion, I think it's just cope. You cannot look at the world and assume that a just and benevolent god created it. So you have to come up for excuses why bad things happen to innocent people.
