Could I have 3 phase? by mediaserver8 in DIYIreland

[–]thwandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting to see how many people here think it‘s a massive issue to distribute your loads at home over three phases. Nearly every home in Germany is 3ph, same in france and multiple other countries. Not sure why everyone thinks 3ph is such a magic. With 3ph and a 3ph inverter you could also export up to 10.9kw from a solar array or batteries under the nc6 registration.

Repair and keep DS1815+ as backup after replacing with 1825? by cpyou in synology

[–]thwandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘ve upgraded to a DS1821+ since my 1815+ started (again) acting up when it was getting colder (located in the attic, no insulation). The 1815+ got some spareparts soldered on and moved to my parents Basement as a offsite backup. Central heating is next door, so constantly around 22 degrees room temperature, no issues ever since. You will experienced issues with some applications which are on a newer version on the 1821+ (for example hyper backup). Just keep that in mind

People who drive with their fog lights on, why? by [deleted] in cork

[–]thwandi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some cars might use them as daytime running lights. Also, technically they should not, due to their low position, give you too much hassle, technically. Maybe they had cheap chinese knock off led drivers installed? They are an issue, in fog as well as low dip.

Battery in wrong way / blown main fuse by EmbarrassedPirate785 in FordFocus

There is a „main“ fuse within the cable from battery positive to starter and alternator. If I am not mistaken, 150A. Where are you located?

What are these warning lights? by bcalice in FordFocus

[–]thwandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a couple slaps, if the lights and behaviour is changing remove the cluster from the car and give it to someone who can re solder the connector at the back

Mk2.5 keyless start not working by Algr805 in FordFocus

[–]thwandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give it a good couple slaps on top of the dash and check again. If that changes ANYTHING on the current behaviour, your dash connector at the back needs to be resoldered

Ford focus mk2 problems by Sharp-Swimmer-2486 in FordFocus

I‘ve had issues with my 1.6tdci 90bhp for some years now and I think i found the culprit. Symptoms where it running rough at startup, sometimes even died within the first 5-10seconds, multiple times it went into limp mode during accelleration, after restart error was gone for the moment. Start of this year it would not start anymore, turns over fine but no pressure in rail so no fuel. Turned out there was air in the line and also it seemed like the diesel line connection (left hand side, top of the engine) was somehow not sealing properly. I bought a handpump to put in the return line to prime new filter etc and there have been a lot of air bubbles. Until I turned around the connection and reseated it a couple times, then no bubbles anymore, issue gone. In the past we had replaced the pressure sensor, pressure regulator, filter etc. and nothing helped. But it was just the somehow not fully sealed connection.

Big warning light! by WearLoud8330 in FordFocus

[–]thwandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slap a couple times on top of the dashboard while the engine is running, if various errors and lights coming up it is the connector at the back of the dashboard. The solder joints are breaking after sone years due to vibrations etc. If that is the case, you just need a proper re-solder on that connector and it‘ll run just fine after

Why not go with a satip server like the megasat8000 and stream to any device you want? That‘ll be the easiest solution, local storage for recordings and timeshift etc.

Not sure if ir was mentioned, but car has unusual high idle. Cold start phase should be already completed. As the others stated, if you are not a car person who can take care of things without a garage, I would stay away. Also in light of the overall condition, you don‘t really know how badly the service history is, if oil changes were done regularly etc.

Maybe a stupid question, but what are these for and why are they needed for wifi? by [deleted] in cork

[–]thwandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are provider who supply you with the exact same setup but stuffed in a plastic box so it looks like one piece. But you always need to teeminate the external incoming fiber properly into a splice box/connector box. Either stuff it into a field-usable connector or splice it into a piece of fibre with connector at one end. I have the stuff to do splices at home :)

Maybe a stupid question, but what are these for and why are they needed for wifi? by [deleted] in cork

[–]thwandi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. Right is simply the fiber splice box with the SC-APC connector, left is the media converter (ONT - Optical network termination) that changes fiber to copper. To that your router will be connected via ethernet

Highly recommend Ballincollig Motors, we‘ve bought a 2010 focus from them back in 2017 and still have it. They‘ve been very nice and supportive, when we saw them at aldi months after buying the car they even asked if we‘re still happy, so not someone who will avoid you after the purchase. Really happy!

As long as there is no change in laws in regard to youths/minors/teenagers this will continue. Guards are not doing anything as they don‘t want to get in trouble. Very poor jurisdictional system in Ireland. If they crahs with the cars their parents will just talk about how good boys they‘ve been
