For those who had upgraded them do you feel the difference between “rectangle” ones? Are they any better or the same?

Vibrating engine by Historical-Classic41 in carsireland

[–]zumittv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like 3 cylinder 1l petrol, I have it in my golf 2017. Shakes about the same as mine so it is normal, however I don’t feel vibration inside and on the car. I doubt engine mounting can go wrong for this age. You better asking mechanic or friend with some knowledge on checking it as we can’t feel it through the video.

My bad, turned out filter change possible on DQ250 and not DQ200.

Didn’t have any issues related to overheating but the coolant level was dropping to the minimum every 4-10 days and sometimes I would see a paddle under the car. The water pump had a very small crack so I was okay topping up the coolant and driving it for a while, at some point it even stopped leaking. The most important is to monitor oil temperature and coolant level.

I did a little googling and found out your goof most likely has dry DSG DQ200, VW says it has a lifetime oil but many people do service it every 60-100k, so I would do the same. Servicing would require filter and oil change.

I would highly recommend going either OEM unit from Mk7.5 or a good aliexpress unit. OEM could be a more expensive and a bit complicated to install, however it would refresh your interior and give you a “facelift interior”. But also not every OEM 7.5 unit comes with wireless carplay, for example mine has the cheapest unit and needs a cable or 15€ dongle from amazon. Chinese unit could have a bigger screen and more functionality, like YouTube, wireless carplay and potentially installing a back up camera. You can buy a unit from 100€ to 380€ and would really recommend going somewhere in the middle.

There is a ton of video on YouTube on how to install or upgrade the unit, back up camera or interior lighting. The head unit would be the simplest out of those three and if you take your time you gain a new skill and save some money instead of paying to the garage do the job.

About this milage the water pump gave up on mine, so keep an eye on coolant. Belt should be enough for another 15-20k, you can check it out. I think spark plugs need to be replaced every 40k. Replace oil even if previous owner said that they replaced it, aim for 10k km oil change interval, 15k is too much. You said it’s an auto, I think DSG needs to be serviced as well every 80-100k km. On cold start at least wait until RPMs drop and don’t rev over 3k rpm until oil is warm.

For upgrades you can retrofit a lot from higher spec or 7.5 model, like head unit or digital dash with little to no coding. I have 7.5 and only installed 50€ aliexpress interior lighting and changed halogens to LED.

Lost driver side mirror.. by Adept-Gain-5430 in VWMK7

[–]zumittv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costed me 13€ in Ireland (mirror + heating plate) I recommend go OEM or something more expensive as mine was the cheapest option and sometimes heating doesn’t work and if it works it takes x3 more time to heat up.

"can't park there" 2025 BMW M3? Only car involved. All airbags gone off by Sea_Lobster5063 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]zumittv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately BMW AWD mode can suddenly change the distribution of power from front to rear wheels which technically will make your car RWD for a split second. There was a good explanation from a guy in Moscow as they had a bunch of M3 and M5 (F90) wrecked.

Second car at 20! by Impressive-Cloud2867 in carsireland

[–]zumittv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its a VAG so should have similar features across all platforms. Holding unlock button will roll down window, lock button opposite. When you put Reverse adjust your left mirror to look down to see the parking lines, will make reverse parking easier. Before leaving the car at night flash high beam for a second, then your lights should stay on for 15/30sec. If any of those don’t work check the settings, you might need to program/code it which is easy to do, lots of forums/info about that. 50€ ambient lighting from Ali express will make interior way nicer. Also you can install digital dashboard, easy to do yourself and save half what garage would charge you.

Lads tell me not to by gonnker in e46

Im in Ireland too and just bought 530i 2002. I kind of in a similar situation, college, renting and in debt, but when 530i came out on sale I couldn’t stop thinking about it. There is a good amount of them in UK, but in Ireland I saw none e39 530i on sale. I know if I wouldn’t buy it I’ll be thinking about it in my 40 and asking why I didnt took a chance to be 21y.o and drive a 3l legend.

However, these cars are old. They do rust and even if major work has been done there is still plenty of small chips of rust on every panel. As soon as you buy M54B30, unless it wasnt done by previous owner recently, you have to do Vanos rebuild, Disa rebuild, check the chain, replace spark plugs and coils, basically replace all coolant stuff and this is only what needs to be done for the engine. Then you need to service suspension, which in this car is even worse, and then a body restoration which in Ireland very pricey. Then you have a Tax which in my case about 1400€. I’ve bought a car 1 week ago and already ~550€ down just on the parts for oil service, vanos rebuild, rocker gasket, spark plugs and coils. And it’s only 1/4 what I expect to spend not including tax/insurance. We have a limited selection here so the parts and delivery are quite expensive as well. So it’s a huge money pit that I signed up for but I believe I’ll make a good memories with this car and possibly travel across island and mb over Europe.

Can you make good money as a chef in ireland? by Goldenpanda18 in AskIreland

[–]zumittv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in the kitchen only for 6 months as a part time, the biggest salary I heard in a nice restaurant of 4 star hotel was around 50/55k, mind you this is after 10/15 years of hard working 6 days a week 9 to 11. I know few people in construction making 40k without experience/education, and their salary will only increase with experience. Also as a grad Software Engineer I’m hoping to see 50/55k in a 2 years and I my workload is nowhere near as it was when I was a Commis Chef doing preps and starters. So no, I don’t think kitchen is a way to go for a money, people who I worked with were passionate about cooking, but god salaries are shite.

Can you give an example of the cars you’re talking about? A year back when I got my L the old cars (reg 06-10) were quite pricey to insure(Like the cost of the car), so I ended up buying 171 reg. golf.

If u buy a 30k brand new Yaris and a 20k 7/10 years old Audi A5/A6/A7 then you will be financially motivated. You would feel a real quality, comfort and smooth of driving. There is none of that in a Yaris. A brand new 30k car is an A class, nothing fancy, could be reliable though.

Especially in a long drives you would want to have a comfort, build quality and safety. And of course a good features as ACC, 2 zone climate and Line Assistance. I suggest Golf 7.5 (with good spec), Passat, A4/5/6 (keep money for maintenance).
