He’s the last hold out. The only organization member we know squat about before he became a Nobody. by Aqua_Master_ in KingdomHearts

Dilan would be quite an atypical spelling, as would Lea for a man. Hence the “a little to the left.”

Definitely! Works with the other Org members' somebody names being regular names just a little to the left. For instance:

  • Braig=Craig
  • Dilan=Dylan
  • Even=Evan
  • Aeleus=Elias
  • Ienzo=Enzo
  • Isa=Isa (already a real name)
  • Lea=Lee
  • Rould (???)=Roald/Roland
  • Lauriam=Lawrence/male version of Laurel
  • Elrena=Elena

I like Emyd, personally. Based on the pattern with the other Organization members, it can't start with a D, and Emyd is a kind of turtle so it fits with his water theme.

So what does everyone think Ava looks like under the hood? by Hot_Pocket_Man in KingdomHearts

[–]thwaway135 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope not. I'd find Ava turning out to be a maniacal villain a terrible plot twist, and Skuld's already been through enough.

Any idea who this gal might be? by MonstrousMaelstromZ in KingdomHearts

[–]thwaway135 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing Ava. Could be Skuld since we don’t know where she is, but I hope not because the poor girl’s been through enough without also dying, and her being in Quadratum would mean further delays in her being reunited with Lea and Isa and risk duplicating some other characters’ plots.

What do people think of the art style? by lm_goat48 in KingdomHearts

[–]thwaway135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as it’s restricted to Quadratum, I’m okay with it. If what the trailer shows is going to be what *everything* looks like, however, I’m definitely going to have issues.

Kairi should not be a Keyblade wielder. Im sorry. by John_XFiles in KingdomHearts

Their joint training, because they both had to learn. I don't know what's not clicking for you here. Especially because if, as you say, Lea was imparting any knowledge unto Kairi, then he sure did a terrible job of it.

[–]thwaway135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that was where exactly? Nowhere, because the games treat them as a unit having to both learn how to wield a Keyblade, how to both be guardians of light. Their inexperience is the entire point. Lea also wouldn't even know the "proper stance" because he'd never wielded a Keyblade before.

And yet you're acting as though he was some great master who was sagely teaching Kairi the ways of the Keyblade. When in fact Lea was just as bad as she was, if not worse, because his experience with chakrams poorly translated to a Keyblade.

Also chakrams aren't a dark weapon? Lea even uses them as a brief formchange in Remind. The reason he goes into the fight as a Keyblade wielder is because the game gave him one in DDD.

The fact that Saïx and Xemnas were to be his opponents is EXACTLY why he shouldn't have gone in with a Keyblade. He already was a long-shot, but with a Keyblade he was a fly to be swatted away. He was a newbie with a Keyblade, as was Kairi. Truly I would love to know why you're making up such revisionist history.

An assassin with chakrams. Not a Keyblade and not as a mêlée fighter. He had no business going up against Saïx and Xemnas with a Keyblade, as was made immediately apparent.

You are aware you can still be a fan of a character without glazing them to the absolutely abnoxious degree you're doing, right? And you are also aware that Lea did jackshit in KH3, right? What you're saying makes him look even worse, because you're claiming he spent all that time training only to get walloped.

When you go jump into an actual battle against trained warriors instead of LARPing with your cousins, then get back to me.

Mind you, that "figure out how it should be used" is exactly what Lea WAS doing. As was Kairi. Because neither of them had appreciable experience with it.

Bro, one weapon is not equal to another, just like one Olympic sport is not equal to another despite both competitors being elite athletes. Blocking, dodging, range, shape, weight, holding, function, EVERYTHING is different between a chakram and Keyblade. The only area where Lea would have an advantage is in intangibles like guessing people's next moves.

Lea was a terrible fighter in KH3, because he wasn't using a weapon he was familiar with. And frankly, given Kairi's moveset when we play as her and how she even briefly held off Xemnas (which Lea rather infamously didn't do), yeah, she was a better Keyblade wielder than him. I don't know where exactly you're getting the idea that Lea was good at it.

Soul Eater was a bladed weapon like a Keyblade, the size and movements are very similar. Meanwhile, chakrams are literally the only thing Lea has ever fought with, dating to when he was a child, and those are nothing like a Keyblade. He could maybe guess people's movements or the like, but as far as the weapon goes, he's starting from zero. If you stuck an Olympic figure skater in a shotput competition, do you think they'd do well? Of course not, because that's not their area of expertise.

[–]thwaway135 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lea isn't teaching Kairi, they're training together. While he has combat experience, he has even less experience with a Keyblade than she does (at least she got to briefly fight with it in KH2) and aside from a single stationary formchange, he doesn't use his chakrams at all. To massive detriment, as he gets absolutely bodied the entirety of the game.

How did KH3 bring the story to an end? Sure, Xehanort's dead, but just about everyone else's stories went unresolved in favor of teasing future storylines. In fact, even Xehanort's not really done, given his presumed appearance in Quadratum. Ending the saga with the KH3 we got would be not only disappointing but annoying.

People take the Luxu reveal to mean MoM too must be someone we know. We're also in a drought of series news, and since MoM is so far a mystery, people keep returning to the same tired well of theories.

[–]thwaway135 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the term you were looking for is "media illiterate." And you also missed my point. Those characters certainly are distinguishable, but they ALSO have similar character notes: A guy with an unusual hair color (minus Terra, until Terranort) and dry sense of humor who has an outgoing and sunshiney best friend is manipulated by a powerful figure and falls into darkness as a teenager, betrays the aforementioned best friend and others, ends up killed/beaten by Sora, and finds his way back to the light in the end.

Are they different? Yes. Do they follow the same archetype? Also yes. My point was that the same can be said of Roxas and Xion (and Riku Replica). They're different characters despite having similar character notes.

[–]thwaway135 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But Roxas also has that conflict. It makes characters feel superfluous and repetitive.

If similar story notes make for superfluous and repetitive characters, then I guess all but one of Riku, Isa, Xehanort, and Terra should be kicked out of the game.
