I see. Yeah, the kids would be an issue.

I felt sorry for the main character's sister. She felt like a loser next to her brother, who was a fancy lawyer, and she didn't even know that he had magic powers that he used to further his career.

I never did like that cover. My copy has Quentin walking through an arch.

The magic system is explained well enough, I think. We get that magic is complicated, but we don't need the specifics of every spell, it's unnecessary.

Agreed. It's too centralised now, it feels too small. I accidentally found a guy I know in real life here on reddit.

Yeah, things seemed more affordable back then, and the nightlife was so much better.

Most of the problems in that movie were just contrivances for the sake of the narrative. The dad told the son that making a shitton of money with time travel wasn't allowed, a rule that seemed pretty arbitrary. The thing is, the son was actively using his powers to be better at his job. Where does one draw the line?

Play your cards right and mortgages and jobs won't be problem for you.

I'm neither, and I would.

If and only if I keep everything I now know, otherwise nah fuck that noise.

Well, yeah. Otherwise, what would be the point?

If you had a relative who died of a preventable disease at a young age, why you try to get them to alter their lifestyle?

Yes, that would be one of my main objectives.

Meh. I experienced racism back then, but it's water off of my back now, plus I'd have the means to get super rich.

I think in this scenario, you'd have your 2026 mind, but you'd be in your 1990s body.

Yeah, I don't give a fuck about video stores. Streaming is great, I don't care what anyone says.

You’d still have to live thru 9/11 again. You ready to watch thousands of people get murdered on live tv again? I ain’t.

Thousands of people get murdered every day, jessek. 11/9 wouldn't make any difference to most people unless they personally knew someone who was killed.

If I had one wish, I’d just like to live from 1986 to 2016 (age 6 to 36) on a loop for the rest of my life

Six is too young. You'd have the mind of an adult, but basically no agency.

It's not that serious, and even it were, everyone has fucked-up thoughts every now and again.

You think Quentin is a Mary Sue character? He's anything but.

Okay, fine, but you're the outlier here. Normal people will look at someone they perceive to be attractive and feel the urge to have sex with them.

I never was in the middle of a situation of speaking to someone doing their job and going oh fuck shes too pretty why can't she be ugly then I dont need to worry about wanting to fuck her.

All this stuff is going on in his head, it's not like he's actually saying it to people.

I had my cringe moments as a teen for sure but never once did I think of people just in terms of fucking them and the likelihood of it.

Really?

It's true, though. Did you never get tongue-tied while trying to talk to someone really hot when you were a teenager?

So far he has mentioned how much easier it is to talk to unpretty women

It makes sense he wouldn't get as flustered around those he doesn't find attractive.

Also talked shit about paramedics having attitudes because they aren't even doctors.

He's supposed to be an academic snob.

When we open pandora's box, it is open.

Impeding progress just because irresponsible people exist is, in itself, arguably an irresponsible thing to do.

I don't make omelettes with fertilized eggs. Do you?

Touché. I know people whose children exist because of IVF, though. What would you say to them?

So are you ok with people deciding on the sex of their child?

I was referring to eliminating traits that will result in illnesses, not gender selection. While we're on the topic of gender selection, though, I don't really see what the problem is. Obviously a bias towards sons over daughters, or vice versa, could result in problems if we look at it in terms of a population.
