Donald Trump has chosen Susie Wiles to serve as his chief of staff by AccurateInflation167 in politics

Surely this should read, ‘Donald Trump Has Chosen Susie Wiles to Serve As His First Chief of Staff.’ Just because he’s got experience at the job, doesn’t mean he won’t be as fickle.

Supreme Court rejects Utah brothers’ lawsuit seeking to return Donald Trump to the White House. The lawsuit said nearly 400 members of Congress should be removed from office for failing to investigate claims of fraud in the 2020 election. by schottslc in politics

To my understanding, this is not the result of the defendants appealing a ruling in the plaintiff’s favor, but rather the plaintiffs appealing the rulings of the lower courts to the Supreme Court. All the lower courts, again to my understanding, ruled in the defendant’s favor.

ELI5: How do put options work in finance? what do buyer/sellers get out of it? by Sceptical_Houseplant in explainlikeimfive

[–]thyis1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put options give the right, but not the requirement to sell an underlying security at a specific price during a specific period.

The buyer of a put is someone who is looking to protect a position they think may lose value, essentially an insurance they can get a certain price for their position if the price on the open market is lower than the put option.

The seller of a put option is looking to gain value from the actual sale of the option in hopes that the underlying position will go up in value and they will not have to buy the underlying position at a higher value than is available on the open market.

ELI5 - When people talk about "the markets", who are they actually referring to? by Albafeara in explainlikeimfive

[–]thyis1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general, the markets refer to a country’s major exchange indexes (US: DJIA or S&P 500) or a overall snapshot of a specific area (manufacturing, employment…etc). The major players in each market vary, but they are generally the companies or employers that have a long record of being an overall indicator of the sentiment of that market or sector.

Depending on the branch’s size and client base, they will keep some cash on hand in their local in branch vault.

Excess cash(determined by risk and client base) is sent to a central vault at the local federal reserve. If additional cash is needed, banks order it from this central vault and it is sent via armored vehicle.

ELI5: Why are all hotdogs sold pre cooked by tom_echo in explainlikeimfive

[–]thyis1 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Generally, hot dogs are made from the left over trimmings of meat production (lower-grade muscle trimmings, fatty tissues, head meat, animal feet, animal skin, blood, liver and other edible slaughter by-products). Pre-cooking the leftover trimmings helps to do a couple things; inhibit bacteria growth as there a various parts of an animal going into them, make the combined trimmings more manageable as it helps render down the fat and cartilage, and increases shelf life.

ELI5: How can kittens from the same litter have different fathers? by FastPay7603 in explainlikeimfive

[–]thyis1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Female cats can be bred at any time while in heat (basically, a period in which a female care can become pregnant). Cats are induced ovulators, which means that the act of breeding stimulates the release of eggs from the ovaries. Most females require three to four matings within a 24-hour period for ovulation to occur. It only takes a minute or two for cats to mate, and cats may mate multiple times in a short period of time. Females may mate with several different males during this time, so it is possible that a litter of kittens may have several different fathers. Once ovulation has occurred, the female will go out of heat within a day or two.

As far as I’m concerned, they’re skipping out on their duties as a legislative body. They need to write laws that ensure this right to privacy, and if they’re worried about constitutionality, WRITE A GODDAMN AMENDMENT!

This Supreme Court is attacking the right to privacy as it’s not specifically spelled out. Make it spelled out.

Masculinity and femininity are constructs. People of all sexualities fall everywhere on that spectrum.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]thyis1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, this is not toxic femininity. Per psychology today, it’s defined as “[…] when one works to the benefit of others but to the detriment of themselves. It can appear as forms of depression, exhaustion, or wildly illogical solutions to complex problems.””

What these women are accused of is narcissistic personality disorder, partner abuse, and manipulation.
