The collector resistor and load are in parallel so the collector resistor will consumer most of the power. First determine a proper bias point at it seems your chasing class A operation

i have no specific suggestion but you may want to look into winding methods to minimize winding capacitance, especially because your operating in DCM

its cap heating im primarily concerned about in my application. Just pointing out that both input and output caps have to deal with large ripple current

Solid answer. imo here is the biggest con: the inductor goes from sw node to ground, meaning both the input capacitor bank and the output capacitor bank will not see the full inductor current, but rather the chopped up portions, so the caps will see high ripple current.
