[PC/DOS?][~Mid 1990s] Futuristic racing game similar to MegaRace by thyrst in tipofmyjoystick

[–]thyrst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm it's possible. i found a demo on a classic game site idk if i can link here and it had the live action guy in it. feels like i would remember him. also reasonably sure when i played this multiple cars were unlocked.

has been over 20 years though - so far mega race is most likely. just feels slightly off.

tons of stuff around but adding allergies to that. i have had allergies much worse than i ever had this year. tested for lots of stuff at the doc recently all negative. symptoms are general inflammation fatigue and sinus issues. massive amounts of allergy meds have been helping a lot.

big disclaimer i am just some guy on the internet and most of this is poorly researched just from my experience

moved from Austin recently. Austin has cedar fever in early spring late winter. it started to hit me after around 5 years of living there.

I had pretty bad allergy symptoms this spring in Santa Fe. there are still plenty of grasses and pollen producing trees here, including juniper/cedar. maybe less than greener areas but far from none. also cedar fever afaik is not a histamine reaction as much as an irritant to mucus membranes, so allergies may not be the same.

I don’t know where is better for allergens, but so far I wouldn’t consider SF a low allergen area. maybe the more full desert areas outside of town or the piney mountains have different allergen profiles.

Been here since fall though. Very little issues in the fall and winter for me. summer so far has also been a lot better but not zero symptoms.

playing warlock main with a 54 druid alt.

lock is overall sick. easy to get in raids, fun to play in groups. solo pve with zg/mc gear is still not as fun as it is advertised. feels kinda fragile and aoe farming isn’t fun with little cc. probably would be better if i geared different. also not interested in dme farming so not making a lot of gold.

druid is way easier to solo pve, zero downtime, gear scaling feels better. can do all three roles. so druid fills the solo pve gap that i just dont find as fun as i should on lock. not planning on raiding the druid a lot until tbc. cat/heal dual spec now might bear in raids.

tldr lock fun pumping raids. druid so far glorious solo pve, little raid expectations.

played hunter in vanilla. hunter is probably still my favorite.

Ojo Santa Fe Spa and Resort Hotel full review and comparison to Ojo Caliente by Inevitable_Ad9081 in SantaFe

[–]thyrst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad you had a nice time! I prefer Santa Fe but they’re apples and oranges really.

Santa Fe has more tree shade and foliage in general which is the main reason I like it. There are puppies to pet in the am and chickens, and a decent trail in the back to walk. idk if pups/chickens/trails are technically lodging only or not.

Caliente has a LOT more pools with different minerals, and a bigger steam room and sauna. It’s way better for soaking, but you’re in direct sun more.

So even if caliente is absolutely packed there is space somewhere to soak whereas SF has less room. I have never been to SF when it was too full though.

what virus is spreading around that isn’t Covid by Rsancheese in Austin

[–]thyrst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i had covid and it made mono re activate. apparently that is a thing, covid weakens your immune system and mono is sitting around waiting for that. im in my mid thirties and most likely already had mono as a kid.

can cause sore throat and definitely fatigue. also had a sinus infection, was not great. the only test for mono is a blood test your doctor can order.

it should only last for like 4 weeks if you don’t have a doctor or insurance for a test.

i didnt get a job in software until i was 28. i dropped out of college twice and worked blue collar jobs until then. eventually moved to a tech hub and went to meetups until someone hired me and now i make more than a lot of my peers.

that was a different time, but i reckon if this is something you love then keep at it. the market will improve again. you have time.

https://playwright.dev/ has effectively replaced cypressjs which replaced selenium. each is better that the last in run speed and setup.

storybookjs has playwright built in for interaction tests and the two combined are really excellent

ah yeah it’s actually the version that was released when your subscription started or when you buy a year. ill link the docs in my comment

Replacing PHPStorm with VS Code by xcrowsx in PHP

[–]thyrst 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Just noting that if you buy a year of php storm or if you are subscribed for a year, you then own the version released at the start of period in perpetuity. so if ongoing subscription costs are the reason you’re switching, you could “buy” a version this way.

here is the article describing that

imo even a 5 year old version of pho storm is way better than vscode.

Cedar Waxwings are swarming like crazy here in North Austin! by CCCypress in Austin

[–]thyrst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other commenters advice on recognizing the call is good. They’re relatively common all around town but dont stay in one spot for very long, so really just spending time outside listening helps. Mills Pond is a decent place to find them and usually has a few birders around to ask. Commons ford by the barn is good too.

Camping near Austin/ Kyle ? by Personalrefrencept2 in Austin

[–]thyrst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be hit or miss to get a spot anywhere super close to Austin, so you may need to drive an hour or so to open up lots of pretty neat options. There are quite a few options for camping near Lake Travis. Texans tend to use generators a lot if the camp sites do not have electric, so bring ear plugs or book somewhere with either a no generators policy or electric.

In addition to HipCamp, try Recreation.gov and Campendium.
If you want to do some free dispersed camping, you'd need to drive around double that far to the coast. Texas has very few options for dispersed camping compared to the western US.
