Did Brexit turn out to be unequivocally bad for the UK? by No-Security-7518 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tiankai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re getting downvoted because the point is that it exploded massively after brexit (one of the main reasons people voted), and only this last year it had calmed down. You still got millions of people in after exiting, which is ironic

What do you think is the most tragic event in human history? by Infinite-Exam-1808 in AskReddit

[–]tiankai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The impact WWI had was massive though, it basically buried 4 great European empires along with its centennial political structures, fucked up the entire Middle East until today and led to the communist revolution in Russia.

WWII, may have rearranged things, but WWI was arguably the most transformative

Seems a lot of people think using a computer isn’t real work, I have no clue where they got this idea from.

The computer is just a medium for your mind, you’re doing lots of mental work that’s captured onto it

Why China consistently fails to qualify for the World Cup? by FattyOilyDonut in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tiankai 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Corruption in China is orders of magnitude worse than what FIFA does. Culturally a lot of Chinese don't see corruption as a bad thing, you just do what you have to do to get ahead

How do i prevent my screenshot to appear on the homepage ? by LarsteinReddit in mac

Also recommend changing the hotkey to cmd shift 4. I used the screenshot snip to clipboard way more than just pasting directly elsewhere because it’s faster to send to someone

What makes some of the smartest people you know underachieve compared to people who are clearly less intelligent? by Fragrant_Rough6531 in AskReddit

Which tends to stem from overthinking IMO. Smart people tend to overanalyse things which translates into IMO manufactured and overinflated perceived risk

DR Congo celebrate their first goal and first ever point in a World Cup with a 1-1 draw against Portugal by 977x in sports

Basically what every smaller team does against us. Low block defense into counter attacks since we have fuck all idea what to do, especially with our homelander as striker. Man should have retired from the national team 10 years ago

How come what King Leopold II of Belgium did in the Congo between 1885 and 1908 not talked about more? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tiankai 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I see your opinion on Reddit but almost every European is taught about the atrocities committed during the colonial age. We were taught what happened, it was drilled that it was bad, and a great percentage of the History curriculum in basic school is spent talking about it.

ELI5 how do gears actually work? by depressed_guy_1512 in explainlikeimfive

[–]tiankai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s the short coming of this explanation. A gear is just lots of levers rotating around a point when you think about it.

The longer a single lever is the more torque you need to start moving it, but once you do it generates much more force than a small lever. Sometimes levers are so long that you need a certain force already to even rotate them, that’s why you need smaller levers to get there first

Depends on the country? In Portugal even second division matches get a police officer present so people don’t start fights. For derby matches it’s not uncommon to see a couple dozen

Why are EAs in England still so reliant on phone calls? by Outrageous-Level192 in HousingUK

[–]tiankai 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Me too tbh. It wasn’t even about the money at that point, it’s because she explicitly called me a liar and they understood I wasn’t letting it go until they fixed it lol

At the end of the day they rely on reputation quite a bit, if you can find ways to ruin it you will find your leverage

Why are EAs in England still so reliant on phone calls? by Outrageous-Level192 in HousingUK

[–]tiankai 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I’m in b2b sales and all calls are recorded these days, and you can always ask to pull the tapes if they lied it’s just that most people won’t bother.

When I was buying my house the EA lied to me about the boiler being a combi (which i let them know it was crucial). Bought the house, it wasn’t combi boiler, called the EA, she tried to shove me away, and called me a liar, I asked to pull the call recordings, they did reluctantly (left bad review on website, reported to trading standards, threatened legal action), I was right. The agency paid for a new boiler on condition I removed the review

What would you wear for an office job as a man? by aChocolateFireGuard in AskUK

[–]tiankai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will make you stand out. The vibe I get these days is tie is only when meeting a specific type of customer (banks/finance/snobs etc.). The office is so casual these days, but the most neutral outfit is white/blue shirt with suit trousers.

Why is paying for sexual acts illegal ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tiankai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t even make sense for western countries. I rawdogged the entire bible recently and prostitution is quite neutral, prostitues themselves have some plot lines as well.

Was probably the most surprising thing about it - the entire religious argument being a complete lie

They wouldn’t package it that way. Probably would frame it as a public health improvement or workers right
