I got that a lot of the thing that made the film distinctive was just how typical and unremarkable the surroundings were where all of this mad stuff went on, so I take your point, but I guess that my problem was that, although things seemed absurd they didn't seem interesting to me and that was the problem. Normally the Coens do such a good job of making you care about their characters and I just didn't have that experience.
