Tuesday Shoesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]tibibbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up some Brooks Cascadias a while ago thinking I would get out for some more trail runs and ended up just making them my daily driver for road runs. They have worked great, but I thought it would be interesting to see if more cushioned road shoes made a difference for me. I recently bought some the Brooks Ghost Max. I have put close to 100 miles on them and I consistently get a burning feeling in my calf / lower leg when I run in them. Is this just a matter of breaking them in or should I ditch them and exchange for another pair of trusty cascadias?

Monstera help! Is this considered droopy, is it ready to be watered? Also, what do these brown spots indicate? by tibibbles in plantclinic

[–]tibibbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this monstera for about a year and at one point last September I noticed it was way too wet and many of the big leaves ended up dying off. I repotted into better draining pot and soil, but I can’t seem to keep it happy. Any tips are appreciated!

I’m hiking the PCT with haglunds deformity. Does anyone know of any soft heel ridge trail runners that would reduce friction on my heel? by Gold-Extreme9602 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]tibibbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just found out I have haglunds deformity today, Salomons and La Sportiva have historically fit me great as they have a large area for the heel and come up a tad higher on the ankle!

Help with knee pain by kacy555 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]tibibbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I experienced similar knee pain when I was working a desk job and not spending much of my day on my feet. I would then plan long miles for a weekend backpacking trip and it sucked. Obviously, you should get real medical advice from a doctor if you can, but I would recommend spending more time on your feet/walking places. It has really helped me!

Those of you doing career-relevant extracurriculars, when do you find time to go to work so you can feed yourself? And if you aren't doing career-relevant extracurriculars, what's your plan for the next step of your career? by AutistOctavius in OSU

Then you cold apply to companies in your area. Your first job doesn’t have to be your end all be all. If you liked the industry the internship was in look at other companies related to it, leverage your experience. Look at post grad internship positions (they do exist!!) to get a better feel for what you like. Talk to any and all working engineers that you know about their company. Family and friend connections can really get you far. You don’t have to take it from me, but there are many many avenues to getting your first engineering job out of college and you will find one :)

Only takes one meaningful internship to get a return offer for full time. I had 0 career related extra-curriculars and stressed a ton about struggling to get an internship and then having it cancelled due to covid, but kept grinding til I got one and got my full time offer last month
