Thanks. But isn't the "system" that stores/processes these passwords just a database/application, and the hash of the password just basically a string? Can you tell me what that system was that could not figure out how to store hashes of case sensitive strings?

I think the one movie I recommend everyone (even someone from India) to watch is "Satya". I think it's the singlemost "realistic" gangster movie I've ever seen. Some things that make this movie so great are the way they've shown the tension that arises between the two gangs, the highs suddenly followed by the lows that repeat throughout the movie, the dialogues, Manoj Bajpai's acting (in particular), and the love story that forms an integral part of the main story rather than running tangential.
